Literary Works Empowering Social Movements: A Doll's House & Bumi Manusia Analysis in Norwegian-Indonesian Feminism

This article explores the role that literature plays in social movements, particularly in the gender equality movement such as women’s autonomy in social settings. By comparing two literary works, A Doll’s House by Henrik Ibsen and Bumi Manusia by Pramoedya Ananta Toer, the article investigates the impact of literature on the first wave of the feminist movement in Norway in 1879 and the portrayal of women's conditions in Indonesia at the time. The research employed qualitative research methods such as content analysis and discourse analysis, as well as comparative analysis of the two literary works. The research found that A Doll’s House played a significant role in the Norwegian feminist movement and gave women confidence and the awareness that they were not merely puppets for men, but human beings whose voices needed to be heard. Similarly, Bumi Manusia showed resistance and awareness of the oppression faced by Indonesian women, highlighting the role of literature in promoting equality movements. These important literary works demonstrate the power of literature in documenting, retelling, and raising awareness of people's stories, ultimately reaching a larger audience

Society As the Possible Villain in 'Menjelang Magrib': Social Thriller Critical Genre Analysis

The aim of the study is to analyze the Indonesian film Menjelang Magrib released in 2022 using critical genre theory. The movie is potentially a social thriller, where the antagonist is not an individual but rather society. This qualitative research adopts a descriptive approach and will gather data through observation methods with heuristic and hermeneutic readings of selected character dialogues relevant to the topic of analysis. The findings indicate that the society in the film indeed serves as the antagonist, as it discriminates against a person with mental health problems by shackling her and acting selfishly towards the environment. The movie sheds light on the issue of discrimination and environmental degradation and depicts society as the cause of these problems. The use of critical genre theory provides a framework for understanding the societal elements at play in the film and helps to analyze the film's message and purpose. Overall, the study supports the notion that Menjelang Magrib can be analyzed as a social thriller, where society serves as the antagonist

TWITTERATURE: A TEXTUAL ANALYSIS OF THE COMPILATION OF IDEAS OR THE DISCONNECTION OF IT

Delivering ideas in a form of paragraphs, there are certain rules to follow for it to be accepted and easily understood by the targeted readers. However, with the rise of social media and the internet, there must be also changes in the world of language and literature. Some rules do not apply in this type of media, especially on Twitter. In 2012 Twivortiare, a novel consisting of a tweet compilation by Ika Natassa was released. This book is widely accepted by readers. In a text structure and text signal, this is very unusual. Using critical textual analysis the author finds out how ideas are being delivered in this type of literary work, whether it is disconnected or compiled. Through this analysis it is concluded that as long as the ideas are intact and can be understood by readers, twitterature is considered a literary work

DIVERSITY AND WHITE SUPREMACY CONCEPT IN THE ADAPTATION OF BARBIE: FROM A DOLL INTO A VIDEO BLOG

AbstractBarbie doll for some people is only childhood plaything that holds memories, but for some others, it is a representation of one race that neglects the others. However, this problem was addressed in 2016 which when Mattel produced diverse dolls that represent people of other races, body types, skin colors, and many more.  Yet there is still one platform that they have not change, that is when they adapted into YouTube, the video blog or vlog concept of Barbie. These two mediums both are created by one giant company that should value the same ideology. This study is conducted using comparative study to analyze both medium and applied diversity theory by Parekh to find out the diversity concept valued by Mattel. In an era of increasingly developing information, critical thinking skills are needed to obtain accurate and valid information. The purpose of this study is to determine how writing scientific papers can improve critical thinking skills. The research method used is a literature study using various sources related to scientific writing and critical thinking skills. The results of the study show that writing scientific papers can improve critical thinking skills because it involves the process of data collection, data analysis, and problem-solving. In addition, writing scientific papers also trains the ability to select relevant and valid information, as well as draw conclusions based on existing facts. However, writing scientific papers also has challenges that must be faced, such as difficulties in organizing information, writing systematically, and paying attention to grammar. Therefore, special training is needed to improve scientific writing skills in order to improve critical thinking skills
