Intellectual capital in nonprofit organizations: a focus on social capital as a marketing enabler
Design/methodology/approach: After a literature review about the intellectual capital (IC) and the social capital (SC) in the non-profit sector (NPS), at either national or international level, the study presents a bibliometric-systematic literature review (B-SLR) of the field in question.
Purpose: The research has the aim of exploring whether and how relevant studies about nonprofit organizations (NPOs) have so far investigated the fruitful effects that can be generated by proactive governance, management and marketing of their IC â particularly when considering its extension to SC â with relation to the promotion of corporate reputation.
Findings: According to a quantitative (more bibliometric) perspective, the scientific interest on this specific issue has not always been constant and methodical, while three themes (institutional scope, human resources and operational functioning) have so far mostly been analyzed according to a qualitative (and therefore more systematic) perspective.
Originality/value: Despite some recent trends aimed at re-evaluating the effect of intangible assets in any organization, there is still some reticence within the NPS to consider the importance of these resources. This orientation also extends to IC, and more specifically to SC, which should now be considered as relevant factors in the creation of value for any socioeconomic organization, both nationally and internationally

Cultural approach to healthcare risk management An Italian experience with LASA (look-alike, sound-alike) drugs
Risk management is fundamental in healthcare organisations at both the institutional (organisations) and sectorial (health) levels, not only as an operational technique but also as part of a managerial model. Thus, it is essential to highlight the strategic importance of the cultural impact, both clinically and financially, of correct risk integration between professional and organisational functioning. This research presents a case study of the Casa di Cura Tortorella S.p.a. (Salerno, Italy), which adopted a unique solution to handle logistical risks concerning medicines that have the potential to lead to dangerous confusions due to their similar names, dosages, packaging, and other elements (i.e., look-alike, sound-alike [LASA] drugs). Using the case study technique, the investigation highlights that the adoption of an operational
mechanism for risk management, although useful, is limited if it is not supported by thorough training (for every operator) and a new organisational and cultural role, i.e., ânursing team leadersâ, with responsibility for coordination and reporting, and has direct and indirect impacts on the financial performance of healthcare organisations
Towards a better understanding of cultural diversity approaches at school: a multi-informant and mixed-methods study
The current study investigates two types of cultural diversity approaches at school, namely (1) fostering equality and (2) promoting cultural pluralism. Adopting a mixed-methods design, this study assesses teachers' (n\ua0=\ua0207) and students' (n\ua0=\ua01,644) self-reported perceptions of descriptive norms and evaluates school practices and artefacts in the physical and virtual environment of 22 secondary schools in south-west Germany. Results showed that in all schools under investigation teachers and students perceived descriptive norms fostering mostly equality. A wide variety of practices and artefacts was found, revealing a third distinct cultural approach leaning towards endorsing the majority culture. Different practices and artefacts were linked to an emphasis on equality, cultural pluralism, and endorsing the majority culture. Implications for educational policy, as well as applied diversity research, are discussed
