This study explores and analyzes the use of multiliteracies, multimodalities, and sociocultural perspectives as pedagogical practices for the teaching and learning of secondary school students and adult learners for literacy and second language acquisition. This qualitative, comparative case study research questions the impact of the theory of multiliteracies and the use of multimodalities and technology has on student experiences across the curriculum and language acquisition with English language learners (ELLs). More specifically, this research study investigates the implementation of multiliteracies, multimodalities, and sociocultural theories of education in language acquisition classrooms, the use of technology in the classroom, and the role of cultural diversity and inclusivity in the classroom. The participants involved in this research study are three secondary school educators and three educators working with adult learners. Data collection and analysis for this research is conducted using constructivist grounded theory as outlined by Charmaz (2006; 2014). This research reveals that when educators consciously engage learners in multiliteracies and multimodalities and account for cultural diversity and inclusivity, and invest in technology in the classroom, curriculum expectations and content material see a transformative effect in that they are taught through dynamic and meaningful practices. Therefore, learners are invested and actively involved in the learning process. It is revealed that expanding the definition of literacy to include multimodalities, accounting for cultural and linguistic diversity, and using technology is essential for the meaningful and positive teaching and learning of all learners across the curriculum

The types of investment that are made abroad are known as foreign and have majorly affected countries that engage in these activities of business. The various factors which are to be considered such as - political factor, social factor and economical factor as these factors affect the allocation of international capital. This research paper will examine and analyze the literature review which is focusing on movement of capital under foreign direct investment. Existence of a positive effect on the economy of a country that is injected with these substitutes has led to a better performance of the overall GDP and increase in national output. The same is related to economic growth. It is argued that the study based upon verified documents involves all the countries irrespective of their geographical area whereas the fact is that many of them are concerned with largest recipients of foreign direct investment such as- Asian and Latin American countries

Investigating the Reality of Using Quantitative Methods in Improving Decisions in a Sample of Public Industrial Sector Companies

    Get PDF
Purpose: The research aims to verify whether or not the production and marketing managers in Iraqi public companies (research sample) use the contemporary quantitative methods (operations research). The present research draws the attention on these managers to explain their importance and impact in choosing the best decision alternatives that respond to environmental complexities (economic, social, technical, and even political) that took place after the events of 2003.   Theoretical Framework: The use of quantitative methods is seen as a criterion for the validity of decisions to be taken before implementation, which requires managers to think seriously about the importance and impact of these methods in reaching sound decisions, which raise economic efficiency and productivity, and improve the financial position of the company in its markets and among its competitors.   Design/Methodology: The research community consists of (3) general industrial companies, as a sample chosen by the researcher to represent the Iraqi industry. And because the research problem is one of the existing and chronic problems in the Iraqi industry, therefore, the time series of the research included length of the economic life of the three companies.   Findings: The results of the research showed that the industrial companies (the research sample) did not use quantitative methods in the past and in the present in decision-making processes, whether productive, marketing or other decisions, the researcher did not find any interest in the economic nature of the decisions taken. Therefore, we recommend attracting analysts and specialists in economics and management sciences to be a nucleus for the establishment of a central supporting unit that uses quantitative methods in the field of decision-making.   Research, Practical & Social Implications: The research dealt with the issue of using quantitative methods in a sample of public industrial sector companies, and clarified its important role in making more objective decisions of an economic nature that works to reduce the randomness of dealing with local markets, the cases of uncertainty, and the economic and social benefits that can be provided to the companies themselves. And for members of society and those who deal with it.   Originality/ Value: The originality of the research is embodied in the investigation of whether quantitative methods are used or not by organizing survey lists that were distributed to production and marketing managers in industrial companies (the research sample) to answer them, which is a precedent that has not occurred before in the Iraqi industry

The investigation of valve operators\u27 torque production capabilities and optimal handwheel height, angle, and opening technique

This research consists of two projects concerned with handwheel-valve operations. The objectives of poject-1 were to: (1) introduce an ergonomically-modified valve-wrench and compare it to conventional valve-opening methods, in terms of efficiency (time to open valve), perceived physical exertion (Borg-scale), and muscle loading of shoulder and trunk muscles; and (2) determine whether the torque setting (15 Nm and 30 Nm) of the valve affects the preferred valve-opening method. Four methods were evaluated, including using bare hands (BH), conventional wrench-restricted (CW-R, assumes presence of obstructions), conventional wrench-unrestricted (CW-U, assumes no obstructions), and modified wrench (MW). Electromyography (EMG) activities were measured from the right and left anterior deltoids, trapezii, latissimi dorsi, and erector spinae muscles. The EMG activity of each muscle was normalized to the maximum EMG activity of the corresponding muscle’s reference contraction (RC). This study used new RC procedures for the anterior deltoids and trapezii that were associated with higher EMG amplitudes than the RC procedures found in the literature. The valve-opening method that was associated with the lowest overall EMG activities was CW-R, followed by BH, MW, and finally CW-U. According to the time recordings and Borg-ratings, the MW was the most efficient and least physically demanding method in opening the valve. The objectives of project-2 were to: (1) investigate operators’ torque production capabilities and recommend maximum torque limits for different handwheel heights (knee, elbow, shoulder, and overhead levels) and angles (0o, 45o, and 90o); and (2) determine an optimal handwheel height and angle, in terms of operators’ maximum isometric torque exertions and the EMG activities of the same shoulder and trunk muscles as in project-1. The average maximum torque exertions ranged between 51.6 Nm (at overhead 0o) and 74.9 Nm (at overhead 45o) depending on the height and angle of the handwheel. Through calculating the 5th percentile torque strength values of the female participants, this study recommends maximum torque limits ranging between 13.7 Nm and 24.1 Nm, depending on the height and angle of the handwheel. Analysis of the results indicates that the optimum height and angle of a handwheel is at shoulder level and zero degree

This study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of using the meta cognition strategies in teaching mathematics on the development of systemic thinking among the basic ninth grade students in Tafila Governorate. The sample of this study consisted of two female groups; experimental and control were selected from Tafila basic school for girls, and another two male groups; experimental and control were selected from Omar bin Alkhattab basic school for Boys. The analysis unit to factors and fractures was selected; teacher's guide was prepared to be used as a teaching guide. Achievement test was set up to measure the systemic thinking among the study sample, where its reliability and validity were also confirmed. The results indicated that the level of systemic thinking did not reach the level of mastery of 75%; where the average of the scores of the experimental group students was 25.28, which is considered less than proposed average of the level of mastery of 30, and with statistical significance, and with statistically significant differences between the mean scores of individuals in experimental and control groups in favor of the experimental group, and that there are statistically significant differences between males and females in favor of females. In light of these findings, the study recommends training the teachers on these strategies, and using the meta cognition teaching when developing the curricula. In addition, it recommends conducting similar studies on other variables such as creative thinking, critical thinking, and attitudes towards mathematics

This research paper deals with the authority extent the administration has in disciplinary punishment, and the role of the Punishment Council, as a surveillance body, in establishing legaljustification behind punitive judgment. It is by ipso jure that the responsibility of carrying out disciplinary punishment lies upon the administration which is directly linked to the party which committed the violation. On the other hand, the Punishment Council holds an authoritative position only in terms of evaluating the graveness of the contravention and providing legaljustification for the punishment; otherwise, the act of punishment itself is the responsibility of the administration. In this perspective, the research aims to deliberate two main related issues: Defining and analyzing the administration concerned with the application of disciplinary punishment. Penalty effectiveness and its justificatio
