Magnetic Phase Transitions in One-dimensional Strongly Attractive Three-Component Ultracold Fermions
We investigate the nature of trions, pairing and quantum phase transitions in
one-dimensional strongly attractive three-component ultracold fermions in
external fields. Exact results for the groundstate energy, critical fields,
magnetization and phase diagrams are obtained analytically from the Bethe
ansatz solutions. Driven by Zeeman splitting, the system shows exotic phases of
trions, bound pairs, a normal Fermi liquid and four mixtures of these states.
Particularly, a smooth phase transition from a trionic phase into a pairing
phase occurs as the highest hyperfine level separates from the two lower energy
levels. In contrast, there is a smooth phase transition from the trionic phase
into a normal Fermi liquid as the lowest level separates from the two higher
levels.Comment: 4 pages, 3 figures, minor revisions to text, replacement figure, refs

Wilson ratio of Fermi gases in one dimension
We calculate the Wilson ratio of the one-dimensional Fermi gas with spin
imbalance. The Wilson ratio of attractively interacting fermions is solely
determined by the density stiffness and sound velocity of pairs and of excess
fermions for the two-component Tomonaga-Luttinger liquid (TLL) phase. The ratio
exhibits anomalous enhancement at the two critical points due to the sudden
change in the density of states. Despite a breakdown of the quasiparticle
description in one dimension, two important features of the Fermi liquid are
retained, namely the specific heat is linearly proportional to temperature
whereas the susceptibility is independent of temperature. In contrast to the
phenomenological TLL parameter, the Wilson ratio provides a powerful parameter
for testing universal quantum liquids of interacting fermions in one, two and
three dimensions.Comment: 5+2 pages, 4+1 figures, Eq. (4) is proved, figures were refine
Excitations of surface plasmon polaritons in double layer metal grating structures
We study the light scattering properties of double layer gratings (DLGs) made from Au on SiO2 substrates. It is found that surface plasmon polaritons (SPPs) can be excited in the DLGs for a separation of up to 150 nm between the two Au grating layers and the collective reflectance spectra exhibit a strong resonant peak and a closely lying dip as a result of the surface plasmon polariton excitations. It is also found that the angle-resolved specular reflectance spectra show a dip-peak pair structure, while the angle-resolved reflectance spectra of higher diffracted orders show a complementary peak-dip pair structure. Finally, operation of the DLGs for efficient wavelength demultiplexing is proposed and discussed in light of these results. (C) 2012 American Institute of Physics. Integrable variant of the one-dimensional Hubbard model
A new integrable model which is a variant of the one-dimensional Hubbard
model is proposed. The integrability of the model is verified by presenting the
associated quantum R-matrix which satisfies the Yang-Baxter equation. We argue
that the new model possesses the SO(4) algebra symmetry, which contains a
representation of the -pairing SU(2) algebra and a spin SU(2) algebra.
Additionally, the algebraic Bethe ansatz is studied by means of the quantum
inverse scattering method. The spectrum of the Hamiltonian, eigenvectors, as
well as the Bethe ansatz equations, are discussed

Assessment of China's virtual air pollution transport embodied in trade by using a consumption-based emission inventory
Substantial anthropogenic emissions from China have resulted in serious air pollution, and this has generated considerable academic and public concern. The physical transport of air pollutants in the atmosphere has been extensively investigated; however, understanding the mechanisms how the pollutant was transferred through economic and trade activities remains a challenge. For the first time, we quantified and tracked China's air pollutant emission flows embodied in interprovincial trade, using a multiregional input - output model framework. Trade relative emissions for four key air pollutants (primary fine particle matter, sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxides and non-methane volatile organic compounds) were assessed for 2007 in each Chinese province. We found that emissions were significantly redistributed among provinces owing to interprovincial trade. Large amounts of emissions were embodied in the imports of eastern regions from northern and central regions, and these were determined by differences in regional economic status and environmental policy. It is suggested that measures should be introduced to reduce air pollution by integrating cross-regional consumers and producers within national agreements to encourage efficiency improvement in the supply chain and optimize consumption structure internationally. The consumption-based air pollutant emission inventory developed in this work can be further used to attribute pollution to various economic activities and final demand types with the aid of air quality models
Schramm-Loewner Equations Driven by Symmetric Stable Processes
We consider shape, size and regularity of the hulls of the chordal
Schramm-Loewner evolution driven by a symmetric alpha-stable process. We obtain
derivative estimates, show that the complements of the hulls are Hoelder
domains, prove that the hulls have Hausdorff dimension 1, and show that the
trace is right-continuous with left limits almost surely.Comment: 22 pages, 4 figure
