TRANSMURAL HETEROGENEITY OF CELLULAR LEVEL CARDIAC CONTRACTILE PROPERTIES IN AGING AND HEART FAILURE

The left ventricle of the heart relaxes when it fills with blood and contracts to eject blood into circulation to meet the body’s metabolic demands. Dysfunction in either relaxation or contraction of the left ventricle can lead to heart failure. Transmural heterogeneity is thought to contribute to normal ventricular wall motion but it is not well understood how transmural modifications affect the failing left ventricle. The overall hypothesis of this dissertation is that normal left ventricles exhibit transmural heterogeneity in cellular level contractile properties and with aging and heart failure there are region-specific changes in cellular level contractile mechanisms. Age is the biggest risk factor associated with heart failure and therefore we investigated transmural changes in Ca2+ handling and contractile proteins in aging F344 rats before the onset of heart failure. We found that in 22-month old F344 rats there is a region-specific decrease in cardiac troponin I phosphorylation in the sub-epicardium that may contribute to slowed myocyte relaxation in the sub-epicardial cells of the same age. We then investigated the transmural patterns of contractile properties in myocardial tissue samples from patients with heart failure. Force and power output reduced most significantly in the samples from the mid-myocardial region when compared to sub-epicardium and sub-endocardium of the failing hearts. There was a region-specific increase in fibrosis is the mid-myocardium of the failing hearts. Myocardial power output was correlated with key sarcomeric proteins including cardiac troponin I, desmin and myosin light chain-1. The results in this dissertation reveal novel region-specific modifications in contractile properties in aging and heart failure. These transmural effects can potentially contribute to disruption in normal wall motion and lead to ventricular dysfunction

The role of brand sustainability and self-brand image congruity in developing brand trust and brand loyalty : A study on luxury brands for Generation consumers

Generation Z consumers are forecasted to become the most influential generation in the next years for the purchase of luxury goods. Understanding their needs and behaviors is becoming more and more crucial for luxury companies, in order to be able to attract and retain them as customers. On one side, Gen Z seems to particularly search for meanings behind the purchase of luxury goods, looking at the brand image and symbolic interpretation of brands. On the other side, they are extremely concerned about the environment and for this reason they require brands to take serious actions in terms of sustainability. Therefore, this thesis is focused in understanding the impacts of a brand's sustainability attributes on the creation of self-image congruity between the customer and the brand, as well as on the creation of brand trust, and consequently in the building of brand loyalty. In order to explore these themes, an online survey has been conducted directed to this target and focused on the fragrances sector. In the scope of this study, respondents were randomly exposed to one scenario about the brand Guerlain, leader in the luxury fragrances sector, in which a core or peripheral sustainability attribute was presented. Through the survey, it was possible to measure the self-image congruity perception of consumers, as well as their trust towards the brand and their propension to be loyal. Findings showed that self-brand congruity impacts both brand trust and brand loyalty, and that also brand trust influences the loyalty towards the brand. Moreover, other factors have been found to influence the creation of brand loyalty, which are the consumer product involvement, the perceived functional quality, the brand attitude and the environmental consciousness of consumers. Lastly, it was possible to observe that Generation Z consumers are extremely environmental conscious. This thesis provides insights and confirmation about Generation Z's attitudes and behaviors towards luxury brands. Therefore, managers of luxury companies should carefully focus on the symbolic meaning they are conveying, in order to transmit meaningful values to the consumers, also in terms of sustainability, to be able in the end to target and keep them as customers.nhhma

Hubungan Lama Pemberian Asi Dengan Kejadian ISPA (Infeksi Saluran Pernapasan Akut) Pada Balita Usia 2-5 Tahun Di Posyandu Kecamatan Kartasura

Latar Belakang. Air susu ibu (ASI) adalah makanan bayi untuk pertumbuhan dan perkembangan. WHO merekomendasikan pemberian ASI eksklusif selama enam bulan dan dilanjutkan selama dua tahun. Menurut riset kesehatan dasar 2010, balita yang mendapat ASI eksklusif di Indonesia adalah 15,3%. Kurangnya pemberian ASI adalah salah satu penyebab infeksi. Menurut gambaran 10 penyakit terbesar pada pasien rawat jalan puskesmas di Surakarta, penyakit ISPA pada urutan pertama, prevalensinya sebesar 35,90%. Tujuan. Untuk mengetahui hubungan lama pemberian ASI dengan kejadian penyakit infeksi saluran pernapasan akut pada balita usia 2-5 tahun di Posyandu Kecamatan Kartasura Metode Penelitian. Desain penelitian menggunakan metode penelitian analitik observasional (non-experiment) dengan rancangan cross sectional. Penelitian dilakukan pada bulan September sampai November 2012 bertempat di posyandu desa Gonilan dan Ngemplak dengan sampel balita usia 2-5 tahun sebanyak 71 balita yang dipilih dengan teknik purposive sampling.Uji hipotesisyang digunakan adalah spearman dengan program SPSS 17.0 for windows. Hasil. Setelah dilakukan spearman pada penelitian ini diperoleh nilai p=0,840 untuk hubungan ASI dengan durasi ISPA dan diperoleh nilai p=0,586 untuk hubungan ASI dengan frekuensi ISPA, dimana p>0,05. Kesimpulan : tidak ada hubungan bermakna antara lama pemberian ASI dengan kejadian ISPA pada balita usia 2-5 tahun di posyandu Kecamatan Kartasur

The Mediating Effect of Smartphone Addiction on Students' Academic Performance

This study identify the factors that influence the academic performance of students in Indonesia. Ease of use and social anxiety are considered antecedents of smartphone addiction. Data was collected through an online survey of 100 respondents who were students in the city of Malang. Data analysis using GSCA software. The findings of this study prove that ease of use and social anxiety have an impact on increasing smartphone addiction behavior. It also reveals the mediating effect of smartphone addiction playing an important role in students' academic performance. It is recommended that further researchers can also elaborate on this research model, especially with regard to the concept of smartphone addiction

Upaya Peningkatan Pemahaman Anak Dalam Mengenal Konsep Bilangan Matematika Melalui Pendekatan Multisensori Kelompok Bermain Tanjung Ria Nanggulan Kabupaten Kulon Progo

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk meningkatkan pemahaman anak dalam mengenal konsep bilangan matematika melalui pendekatan multisensori. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian tindakan kelas yang dilaksanakan di Kelompok Bermain (KB) Tanjung Ria Desa Tanjungharjo Kecamatan Nanggulan Kabupaten Kulon Progo. Subjek penelitian ini adalah anak KB Tanjung Ria yang berjumlah 10 anak. Data pelaksanaan perbaikan pembelajaran dikumpulkan melalui metode observasi dan catatan lapangan, selanjutnya data pemahaman anak diperoleh melalui tabulasi data. Teknik analisis data yang digunakan adalah analisis komparatif yaitu membandingkan hasil capaian anak dengan indikator yang ditargetkan. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa terjadi peningkatan pemahaman anak dalam mengenal konsep bilangan matematika melalui pendekatan multisensori. Hal ini diketahui dari hasil setiap siklus, yaitu siklus I rata-rata pemahaman anak dalam mengenal konsep bilangan dengan metode multisensori 64,375 % , siklus II meningkat menjadi 77,5 %. Dengan demikian dapat disimpulkan bahwa terjadi peningkatan pemahaman anak dalam mengenal konsep bilangan matematika melalui pendekatan multisensori di Kelompok Bermain Tanjung Ria Tahun Ajaran 2013/2014

The need for an integrated academic information system is being increase, especially at the university level. The academic information system that will be created must be balance between the technology infrastructure availability and human resource capability. The purpose of this study is to measure the influence of academic information utilization system on the acceptance of users, especially the students of the University of Muhammadiyah Ponorogo. Another purpose of this study is to prove that the application of science and technology have been done well. This research is conducted at University of Muhammadiyah Ponorogo. The sample is the students who have used the academic information system at least one year. The sampling technique is stratified random sampling method with a sample size of 114 people.
