Indole Acetic Acid production by fluorescent Pseudomonas isolated from the rhizospheric soils of Malus and Pyrus

Fluorescent Pseudomonas, a major component of rhizobacteria, promote  the plant growth  through their multifarious activities. In the present investigations, thirty   strains of fluorescent Pseudomonas were  isolated from the rhizosphere of apple and pear  plants of their  normal and  replant sites and found that the count of  Pseudomonas strains were  more  in normal site as compare to replant site. They were screened for auxins production (indole acetic acid or IAA) and it was found that the strains isolated from normal sites produced more auxins (7-30 ”g/ml) as compared to the isolates of replant site (1-4”g/ml). Four strains viz PN-4-SAN, PN-10-SAN, AN-2-NAG and AN-4-NAG were selected on the basis of their higher auxin production. The maximum production of IAA was observed at 72 h incubation period at pH 7.0 under shaken condition at 28oC. The highest IAA was produced by strain AN-2-NAG (30 ”g/ml) and PN-4-SAN (30 ”g/ml) isolated from Malus (Apple) and Pyrus (Pear) rhizosphere soil, respectively. An attempt was made to extract, purify and evaluate IAA by thin layer chromatography and specific bioassay method. The IAA (Auxin) produced by both the isolates i.e. AN-2-NAG and PN-4-SAN showed Rf value of 0.81. The partially purified and extracted auxins were evaluated by bioassay. The auxins produced by isolates AN-2-NAG and PN-4-SAN showed highest increased in length of coleoptiles of avena. These isolates could be potential strains for bioinoculant production for apple and pear

A methodology for automated feature engineering in training of shallow neural networks for prediction of multi-linear growth failures (“Nova Algorithm”)

    Get PDF
Deep learning requires a large data set. When working with smaller data sets we need an automated approach for feature learning as a pre-processing step to create the training set for a shallow neural network with one hidden layer. The outcome of the neural net classifier is filtered using post-processing rules over a defined wait and quiet period to create an ensemble prediction with higher quality. This gives us the benefits of deep learning, but with a smaller data set. A partial implementation of this methodology was used for a pilot release for prediction of Common Previsioning Group (CPG) growth failures in 3PAR storage devices, using a trained neural net model with additional derived attributes, pre-processing rules and post-processing steps, applied to 90 days history of logical disk free space for each CPG on the storage device

LeptonInjector and LeptonWeighter: A neutrino event generator and weighter for neutrino observatories

We present a high-energy neutrino event generator, called LeptonInjector, alongside an event weighter, called LeptonWeighter. Both are designed for large-volume Cherenkov neutrino telescopes such as IceCube. The neutrino event generator allows for quick and flexible simulation of neutrino events within and around the detector volume, and implements the leading Standard Model neutrino interaction processes relevant for neutrino observatories: neutrino-nucleon deep-inelastic scattering and neutrino-electron annihilation. In this paper, we discuss the event generation algorithm, the weighting algorithm, and the main functions of the publicly available code, with examples.Comment: 28 pages, 10 figures, 3 table

An eV-scale sterile neutrino search using eight years of atmospheric muon neutrino data from the IceCube Neutrino Observatory

    Get PDF
The results of a 3+1 sterile neutrino search using eight years of data from the IceCube Neutrino Observatory are presented. A total of 305,735 muon neutrino events are analyzed in reconstructed energy-zenith space to test for signatures of a matter-enhanced oscillation that would occur given a sterile neutrino state with a mass-squared differences between 0.01\,eV2^2 and 100\,eV2^2. The best-fit point is found to be at sin⁡2(2ξ24)=0.10\sin^2(2\theta_{24})=0.10 and Δm412=4.5eV2\Delta m_{41}^2 = 4.5{\rm eV}^2, which is consistent with the no sterile neutrino hypothesis with a p-value of 8.0\%.Comment: 11 pages, 5 figures. Measurement of the high-energy all-flavor neutrino-nucleon cross section with IceCube

    Get PDF
The flux of high-energy neutrinos passing through the Earth is attenuated due to their interactions with matter. The interaction rate is determined by the neutrino interaction cross section and affects the flux arriving at the IceCube Neutrino Observatory, a cubic-kilometer neutrino detector embedded in the Antarctic ice sheet. We present a measurement of the neutrino cross section between 60 TeV and 10 PeV using the high-energy starting event (HESE) sample from IceCube with 7.5 years of data. The result is binned in neutrino energy and obtained using both Bayesian and frequentist statistics. We find it compatible with predictions from the Standard Model. While the cross section is expected to be flavor independent above 1 TeV, additional constraints on the measurement are included through updated experimental particle identification (PID) classifiers, proxies for the three neutrino flavors. This is the first such measurement to use a ternary PID observable and the first to account for neutrinos from tau decay

Searching for eV-scale sterile neutrinos with eight years of atmospheric neutrinos at the IceCube neutrino telescope

We report in detail on searches for eV-scale sterile neutrinos, in the context of a 3+1 model, using eight years of data from the IceCube neutrino telescope. By analyzing the reconstructed energies and zenith angles of 305,735 atmospheric ΜΌ\nu_\mu and ΜˉΌ\bar{\nu}_\mu events we construct confidence intervals in two analysis spaces: sin⁥2(2Ξ24)\sin^2 (2\theta_{24}) vs. Δm412\Delta m^2_{41} under the conservative assumption Ξ34=0\theta_{34}=0; and sin⁥2(2Ξ24)\sin^2(2\theta_{24}) vs. sin⁥2(2Ξ34)\sin^2 (2\theta_{34}) given sufficiently large Δm412\Delta m^2_{41} that fast oscillation features are unresolvable. Detailed discussions of the event selection, systematic uncertainties, and fitting procedures are presented. No strong evidence for sterile neutrinos is found, and the best-fit likelihood is consistent with the no sterile neutrino hypothesis with a p-value of 8\% in the first analysis space and 19\% in the second.Comment: This long-form paper is a companion to the letter "An eV-scale sterile neutrino search using eight years of atmospheric muon neutrino data from the IceCube Neutrino Observatory". v2: update other experiments contours on results plo

The presence of a population of point sources in a data set modifies the underlying neutrino-count statistics from the Poisson distribution. This deviation can be exactly quantified using the non-Poissonian template fitting technique, and in this work we present the first application of this approach to the IceCube high-energy neutrino data set. Using this method, we search in 7 yr of IceCube data for point-source populations correlated with the disk of the Milky Way, the Fermi bubbles, the Schlegel, Finkbeiner, and Davis dust map, or with the isotropic extragalactic sky. No evidence for such a population is found in the data using this technique, and in the absence of a signal, we establish constraints on population models with source-count distribution functions that can be described by a power law with a single break. The derived limits can be interpreted in the context of many possible source classes. In order to enhance the flexibility of the results, we publish the full posterior from our analysis, which can be used to establish limits on specific population models that would contribute to the observed IceCube neutrino flux
