Age-Adaptive Multimodal Biometric Authentication System with Blockchain-based Re-Enrollment

    Get PDF
In the long run, a significant time gap between enrollment and probe image challenges the model's prediction ability when it has been trained on variant biometric traits. Since variant biometric traits change over time, it is sensible to construct a multimodal biometric authentication system that must include at least one invariant trait, such as the iris. The emergence of Deep learning has enabled developers to build classifiers on synthesized age-progressive images, particularly face images, to search for individuals who have been missing for many years, to avail a comprehensive portrayal of their appearance. However, in sensitive areas such as the military and banks, where security and confidentiality are of utmost importance, models should be built using real samples, and any variations in biometric traits should trigger an alert for the system and notify the subject about re-enrollment. This paper proposes an algorithm for age adaptation of biometric classifiers using multimodal channels which securely update the biometric traits while logging the transactions on the blockchain. It emphasizes confidence-score-based re-enrolment of individual subjects when the authenticator module becomes less effective with a particular subject's probe image. This reduces the time, cost, and memory involved in periodic re-enrolment of all subjects. The classifier deployed on the blockchain invokes appropriate smart contracts and completes this process securely

Recently, several changes have been observed in the Earth’s environment. This is also applicable to the ocean environment. The concept of weather routing has been applied for ship navigation for a long time. Many service providers offer weather routing service with the availability of high-quality satellite data. Unfortunately, not much information is available in the public domain as to how much the recent change in the weather pattern has affected ship navigation. The purpose of this paper is to fill this information gap. We investigate the influence of recent changes in the ocean environment on ship navigation. Weather data from ECMWF, namely ERA-Interim, is used for this purpose. The ECMWF data for the last 27 years is analysed. We compute the statistical characteristics of this data for the first 10 years, last 10 years, and 27 years. The statistical characteristics of the data are determined based on “summer” and “winter” zones as defined by international maritime regulations. Six different worldwide commercial ship routes are selected covering all the ocean regions. Navigation on great ellipse with waypoint is considered. MMG type ship manoeuvring model for 3 different ship types (DTMB 5415, PCC, VLCC) is used. The added resistance due to wave, wind and the effort of keeping the ship on the desired course using autopilot in the rough ocean environment is included in the MMG model. The fuel consumption and the duration of each one of the voyage are computed. Based on the analysis and simulation results it is shown that: (i) The mean wave height, wave period, and wind speed has increased in some ocean zones and decreased in other ocean zones. If any change has occurred, it is uniform for both seasons (summer and winter). (ii) In which ocean regions there is a perceptible change in fuel consumption, average ship speed and voyage time due to the changes in the weather pattern. (iii) The changing weather pattern in different ocean zones affects each ship type differently

The dynamics of an autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV), which can perform manoeuvres with pitch angles in the range of 90° is investigated in this paper. The purpose of the AUV is to perform station keeping manoeuvre at about 90° pitch angle by varying propeller revolution. The AUV is launched / retrieved in horizontal orientation.  Quaternion mathematics, 4 quadrant propeller open water characteristics and PID controller for propeller revolution are incorporated in manoeuvring mathematical model for this purpose.  A procedure for optimizing the gain coefficients for the PID controller is developed using the manoeuvring mathematical model. Two design configuration of the AUV are investigated, positively buoyant and negatively buoyant. It is shown that both the optimal gain coefficients for the PID controller for propeller revolution and dynamic response of the AUV are different for each design configuration.&nbsp

Life in today’s materialistic era, has become miserable. As a matter of fact, human life is becoming luxury oriented day by day despite all the odds. According to ecological approach, disease is nothing but a mal-adjustment of human being to his environment. The disruption in environment brings about lifestyle disorders. The sedentary lifestyle of today’s era leads to the non-communicable epidemic of Obesity. Hence for the management of Obesity the therapy which offers modification in the lifestyle will be selected from Yogic Shat-shuddhikriyas i.e. Kapalbhati in comparison with dietary therapy of Madhudak (Honey and Water) as mentioned by Ayurvedic sages. In the present study, 60 patients with features of obesity as per Ayurvedic classics and body mass index more than 25 kg/m2 were selected. This patients will be randomly divided into experimental and control group, containing thirty subjects in each. In experimental group patients were made to perform Kapalbhati yogic shuddhikriya daily at morning whereas in comparison for control group dietary therapy of Madhudak. The study reveals that there was a remarkable decrease in subjective and objective parameters in both the groups, but Kapalbhati therapy is found more effective in every aspects of obesity. Average percentage of relief in experimental group is 27.85% and in control group is 9.93%. Hence to prevent this smoldering problem of present era the ‘Sciences of life’ i.e. Yoga offers the lifestyle modifying, time effective, free of cost, objective therapy (Adravyabhoot chikitsa) through its basic principles

Retail product recognition on grocery shelf photographs is a challenging task due to the variety of products and lighting conditions. This research proposes a novel method for completing this task efficiently and in a short amount of time. The object detection and recognition module is deployed on a jetson Nano board, which is trained to trace a path for real time object image capture. The proposed method consists of two stages: detection and recognition. The detection stage is performed by a generic product detection module that has been trained on a particular class of products (e.g., tobacco packages). This is accomplished using the Viola and Jones Cascade Object Detection Framework. The recognition stage is performed using two FCN designs: U-Net and Fully Convolutional Regression Network (FCRN). We extract both shape and color information by applying feature-level fusion to two distinct descriptors computed using the bag of words method. We evaluated our method on a dataset of grocery shelf photographs. We achieved a detection accuracy of 95% and a recognition accuracy of 90%. The proposed method is efficient and accurate, and it can be used for a variety of applications, such as inventory management, price tracking, and fraud detection

Dynamic changes in health-promoting properties and eating quality during off-vine ripening of tomatoes

    Get PDF
Tomato (Solanum lycopersicon L.) fruit is rich in various nutrients, vitamins and health-promoting molecules. Fresh tomatoes are an important part of the Mediterranean gastronomy, and their consumption is thought to contribute substantially to the reduced incidence of some chronic diseases in the Mediterranean populations in comparison with those of other world areas. Unfortunately, tomato fruit is highly perishable, resulting in important economic losses and posing a challenge to storage, logistic and supply management. This review summarizes the current knowledge on some important health-promoting and eating quality traits of tomato fruits after harvest and highlights the existence of substantial cultivar-to-cultivar variation in the postharvest evolution of the considered traits according to maturity stage at harvest and in response to postharvest manipulations. It also suggests the need for adapting postharvest procedures to the characteristics of each particular genotype to preserve the optimal quality of the fresh product

Effect of Asymmetry in the Modulation Parameters on Self-Focusing of Asymmetric Finite Airy-Gaussian Laser Beam in Collisionless Plasma

    Get PDF
The self-focusing/defocusing of asymmetric finite Airy-Gaussian (AiG) laser beam has been investigated by employing standard Wentzel–Kramers–Brillouin (WKB) and paraxial-ray approximations in a nonrelativistic regime for underdense plasma. The second-order non-linear coupled differential equations have been solved numerically by using the fourth-order Range-Kutta method. The effect of asymmetry in the modulation parameters on the self-focusing/defocusing of the asymmetric finite AiG laser beam in collisionless plasma has been studied. It is observed that the self-focusing/ defocusing of asymmetric finite AiG laser beam is strongly connected with the initial values of the laser and plasma parameters such as modulation parameters and plasma frequency
