Discrete Event Simulation Applied to Aircraft Development

    Get PDF
The trend in aerospace industry is to increase product complexity, reduce costs and integrate processes along the aircraft lifecycle. Discrete event simulation provides an important support to this challenge. Discrete event simulation techniques are a flexible tool for the evaluation of solutions, comparison of productive scenarios, analysis the impact of modifications and introduction of new processes. However, the selection of the modeling method and simulation tool is not trivial. It impacts not only on the results but also on the effort required to run the simulation. In this context, this paper analyses the applicability of two modeling and simulation approaches in different phases of the aeronautical product lifecycle. It considers the use of event oriented simulation based on Petri nets and process oriented simulation, based on the commercial tool QUEST

DNA Barcoding and Phylogeny of Patellids from Asturias (Northern Spain)

    Get PDF
The main role for genetics in marine invertebrates is the identification of species and groups of interbreeding individuals. In Asturias exists an ancient culinary tradition of consumption for limpets (Patella s.s.) but there is a lack of studies about these species. We have sampled Asturian marine Patella s.s. specimens and conducted sequencing of the mtDNA COI gene. We have confirmed the presence of four Patella s.s. in the Asturian coasts (P. vulgata, P. depressa, P.aspera, and P. rustica). Our work raises concerns about the current state of the P. vulgata populations in Asturias, where it is exploited, due to its low levels of genetic variation. Our phylogenetic analyses using Bayesian approaches confirmed that patellids belong to four different clades but gives a new version about how these clades are related inside the genus aiming for the necessity of more work to address this issue

Spirituality is particularly important in health and illness transitions and is a fundamental dimension of healthcare. However, nurses often feel underprepared to provide spiritual care and the use of dynamic and interactive strategies, such as educational videos, can facilitate the development of this competency in undergraduate education. This study aimed to construct and evaluate an educational video lasting 10 min and 52 s for nursing students concerning the assessment of patients’ spiritual needs. The methodological study was based on the pre-production, production, and post-production phases of the video with an evaluation of the comprehension and comprehensiveness of the content. The results demonstrated the pre-production phase was considered appropriate by the judges and allowed the phase of production of the educational video, considered an educational resource by 100% the experts. Nursing students were enrolled in the evaluation and 75% considered the content and the learning experience useful for their future roles as nurses. So, the educational video was considered a tool that facilitated deepening knowledge about spirituality and motivated students to assess spirituality in clinical practice.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Objective: To investigate the effect of therapeutic listening on state anxiety and surgical fears in preoperative colorectal cancer patients. Method: A randomized controlled trial with 50 patients randomly allocated in the intervention group (therapeutic listening) (n = 25) or in the control group (n = 25). The study evaluated the changes in the variables state anxiety, surgical fears and physiological variables (salivary alpha-amylase, salivary cortisol, heart rate, respiratory rate and blood pressure). Results: In the comparison of the variables in the control and intervention groups in pre- and post-intervention, differences between the two periods for the variables cortisol (p=0.043), heart rate (p=0.034) and surgical fears (p=0.030) were found in the control group, which presented reduction in the values of these variables. Conclusion: There was no reduction in the levels of the variables state anxiety and surgical fears resulting from the therapeutic listening intervention, either through the physiological or psychological indicators. However, the contact with the researcher during data collection, without stimulus to reflect on the situation, may have generated the results of the control group.Paper extracted from doctoral dissertation "The influence of therapeutic listening on anxiety and fears related to surgery in patients in the preoperative to colorectal surgery: randomized clinical trial", presented to Escola de Enfermagem de Ribeirao Preto, Universidade de Sao Paulo, PAHO/WHO Collaborating Centre for Nursing Research Development, Ribeirao Preto, SP, Brazil. Consumer profile and acceptability of cooked beef steaks with edible and active coating containing oregano and rosemary essential oils

    Get PDF
Fresh animal products are highly perishable and characterized by a short shelf-life. Edible coatings with natural antioxidants (essential oils: EOs) could improve stability, ensure quality, and increase the shelf-life of fresh products. Due to the strong flavor of EOs, their use should consider consumer preferences and sensory acceptability. This study evaluated the effects of edible coating (with oregano and rosemary essential oil) on beef in relation to consumer preferences, besides the determination of habits of consumption and buying intentions of consumers. Acceptability scores from three clusters of consumers was described. Coating with oregano was the preferred. The higher consumer acceptance and willingness to buy this product indicate a great potential and possibility of using coatings with essential oils in fresh animal products
