The Role of Perceived Organizational Support, Organizational Culture, and Servant Leadership in The Contextual Performance of The Startup Employees

    Get PDF
A functional performance assessment is crucial for planning an employee's career development working in the company. Nevertheless, related to the performance, so far, conceptually, it is divided into two, e.g., task and contextual performance. Subsequently, directly or indirectly, contextual performance influences individual task performance. Therefore, the study related to particular contextual performance becomes an essential matter to discuss. This study related to contextual performance is relatively scarce; moreover, it does not even find primarily in startup companies. The research objective is to observe the role of perceived organizational support, organizational culture, and servant leadership on contextual performance. The method in this study is quantitative correlation research. The participants in this research are startup employees who are actively working. The instrument for collecting data is a psychological scale consisting of a contextual performance scale, perceived organizational support scale, organizational culture scale, and servant leadership scale. The data analysis technique employs multiple regression analysis. The research result indicates that the coefficient values are R=0.589, F=4.615, and p=0.01 (p<0,05). Based on the data analysis result, simultaneously, perceived organizational support, organizational culture, and servant leadership is indeed contributed to contextual performance. Keywords: Organizational culture, Contextual performance, Perceived organizational support, servant leadership, Startu

This study aimed to determine the role of self-efficacy and optimism on academic stress toward Industrial Engineering students at Universitas Ahmad Dahlan, Yogyakarta. This research applied quantitative methods. Stratified cluster sampling was also used as the sampling technique. Besides, the data collection employed the scale of academic stress, self-efficacy, and optimism while the number of participants in this study consisted of 120 Universitas Ahmad Dahlan’s students majoring Industrial Engineering. The analysis in this study adopted multiple linear regression with the assumption test including normality test, multicollinearity linearity test and hypothesis test. The results showed that two of the three hypotheses proposed were significant or accepted, and another one was insignificant or rejected. Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that the first hypothesis showed significant role of self-efficacy and optimism on academic stress with a value of p = 0,000 (<0.01) and an R square value of 0.200. It showed an effective contribution of 20%. The second hypothesis revealed a high significant role of self-efficacy on academic stress with a value of p = 0.01 (≤ 0.01). Eventually, the third hypothesis did not indicate role of optimism on academic stress

BACKGROUND: Male-to-female transgender (waria) individuals are at high risk for HIV. This study aims at mapping the psychological determinants of four HIV-related health-seeking behaviors. This knowledge can be used to develop effective interventions to prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS. METHODS: The study involved 209 waria from five districts in Jakarta, selected with a cluster sampling procedure. Cross-sectional data were gathered through structured interviews. The four examined behaviors are, visiting sexually transmitted infections (STIs) services regularly, adherence to STI treatment, taking an HIV test and picking up the result of HIV test. For all four behaviors, specific measures of the psychological determinants as defined by the Theory of Planned Behavior were developed: attitudes, subjective norms and perceived behavioral control (PBC). Logistic regression analyses were conducted with these three psychological measures as independent variables and the behaviors as dependent variables. RESULTS: Of the 209 waria, 20.6 % had never visited STI services in the last 6 months, while 56.5 % had visited the services once or twice, and 23 % had visited the service three or more times. A HIV test had been taken by 90.4 % of the waria, and of those, 64.6 % had picked up the results. About 85 % of the waria who did a HIV test had been tested for HIV one or two times in the last 6 months and 10 % had been tested three to four times. The variance in behaviors that was explained by the concepts defined in the Theory of Planned Behavior ranged from 15 to 70 %; PBC was the most powerful predictor. Furthermore, the results showed that in several cases the relationships of attitudes or subjective norms with the dependent variable were mediated by one or both other independent variables. CONCLUSIONS: The results regarding the prominent role of PBC suggest that interventions should increase waria’s control over the behavior: Engaging in specific desired behaviors should be made easier for them. Besides, waria’s attitudes and subjective norms should be addressed, by education, but possibly also by providing waria with a positive experience with the behavior, for example, by designing a professional and friendly health care system

The conversion of religions from non-Islam to Islam is often a moment of spiritual awakening for converts. They feel they have a stronger connection with God and experience a deep feeling of peace and happiness towards their new faith. This study aims to explore in depth the description of spirituality in converts from non-Islamic religions to Islam. The method used in this research is a qualitative phenomenologys approach. Data collection techniques in this research are interviews and observation. The subjects in this research were dua converts who were aged 30-50 years. The research results identified four main themes (Superordinate Themes), namely the power of initial belief, spiritual search, and spiritual experience. The second main theme is the time of religious conversion which consists of sub-themes of decision making, barriers to making a pledge, hiding interest in Islam, recognizing Islamic identity. The third main theme is after converting to Islam which consists of sub-themes of environmental response after religious conversion, social relations after religious conversion, and new spiritual experiences. The last main theme is self-change, which consists of the sub-theme of internalization of the Islamic religion
