Dissociative photoionization of NO across a shape resonance in the XUV range using circularly polarized synchrotron radiation.

We report benchmark results for dissociative photoionization (DPI) spectroscopy and dynamics of the NO molecule in the region of the σ* shape resonance in the ionization leading to the NO+(c3Π) ionic state. The experimental study combines well characterized extreme ultraviolet (XUV) circularly polarized synchrotron radiation, delivered at the DESIRS beamline (SOLEIL), with ion-electron coincidence 3D momentum spectroscopy. The measured (N+, e) kinetic energy correlation diagrams reported at four discrete photon energies in the extended 23-33 eV energy range allow for resolving the different active DPI reactions and underline the importance of spectrally resolved studies using synchrotron radiation in the context of time-resolved studies where photoionization is induced by broadband XUV attosecond pulses. In the dominant DPI reaction which leads to the NO+(c3Π) ionic state, photoionization dynamics across the σ* shape resonance are probed by molecular frame photoelectron angular distributions where the parallel and perpendicular transitions are highlighted, as well as the circular dichroism CDAD(θe) in the molecular frame. The latter also constitute benchmark references for molecular polarimetry. The measured dynamical parameters are well described by multichannel Schwinger configuration interaction calculations. Similar results are obtained for the DPI spectroscopy of highly excited NO+ electronic states populated in the explored XUV photon energy range

Longue mémoire pour des séries irrégulièrement observées. Application aux Black-out électriques.

Ultrashort XUV wavelength-selected pulses obtained with high harmonic generation are used to study the dynamics of molecular cations with state-to-state resolution. We demonstrate this by XUV pump - IR probe experiments on CH3I+ cations and identify both resonant and non-resonant dynamics

Rediscovered earth heritage becomes motor for local change. The Guérande Peninsula (France)

[EN] In the northwest of France, raw earth has been broadly used, especially in Brittany where cob dwellings have been built since the sixteenth century. Today, cob buildings represent 20 % of the built heritage on this territory (Bardel P., Maillard J-L. 2009). The cob technique is also found in the Vendée marshes, where squat dwellings (“bourrines”), dating back to the fourteenth century, bear witness to the use of local, natural resources (Patte E., Streiff F. 2006; Bonnet S., Alzeort D, Poullain P. 2021). Between these two well-documented earth-building territories lies the Guérande Peninsula where earthen heritage, until recently little-known and neglected, has become the object of study. As a result of several inventories undertaken by earth-building professionals, a part of this heritage has been recorded and mapped (Hilton A. 2016; Miranda Santos M. 2016; Humblot D., Josset F., Marquis B. 2018). Two main research methods have been used: · a general audit of the specific areas of the peninsula where earth buildings exist,· a targeted audit of certain villages and their buildings. This latter entailed a comparison of historical maps with current cadastral maps, followed up by on-site verification.Following this inventory work, a sense of the nature and extent of local earthen heritage is beginning to emerge, feeding synergies with renewed local interest in earth construction. The Maison Neuve eco-district in Guérande presents a clear example of this: its objective is to reuse several thousand tonnes of its own site-excavated earth in earth-building projects over the next 5 years. The results of the inventory work helped this local project to understand the nature of the earth available and the different relevant earth-building techniques. The inventory work has also fed into local educational and awareness-raising activities to raise awareness of local earth-built heritage and disseminate best practice in the renovation of earthen walls. This thesis presents a new method using spatio-temporal images to count and to classify in nine objects-classes objects crossing a defined line in the street using convolutional neural networks. Firstly, it presents an automatic labeling algorithm of the spatio-temporal images using an open-source algorithm of the "secretaria de movilidad de Bogota". The labeling algorithm allows creating a data set, to train different convolutional networks, in particular, YOLO networks. The results and parameters of training are presented. The trained models are then used to count the numbers of objects in each spatio-temporal imageto realize the counting for the whole video test. This counting method is compared with manual counting and the open-source algorithm in terms of counting and also in terms of processing time.Ingeniero (a) ElectrónicoPregrad

The mode of host-parasite interaction shapes coevolutionary dynamics and the fate of host cooperation

    Get PDF
Antagonistic coevolution between hosts and parasites can have a major impact on host population structures, and hence on the evolution of social traits. Using stochastic modelling techniques in the context of bacteria-virus interactions, we investigate the impact of coevolution across a continuum of host-parasite genetic specificity (specifically, where genotypes have the same infectivity/resistance ranges (matching alleles, MA) to highly variable ranges (gene-for-gene, GFG)) on population genetic structure, and on the social behaviour of the host. We find that host cooperation is more likely to be maintained towards the MA end of the continuum, as the more frequent bottlenecks associated with an MA-like interaction can prevent defector invasion, and can even allow migrant cooperators to invade populations of defectors.Comment: 8 pages, 4 figures, 1 Supplementary Material file attached (to view it, please download the source file listed under "Other formats"

Coherent electronic-vibrational dynamics in deuterium bromide probed via attosecond transient absorption spectroscopy

Ultrafast laser excitation can trigger multiplex coherent dynamics in molecules. Here, we report attosecond transient absorption experiments addressing simultaneous probing of electronic and vibrational dynamics in a prototype molecule, deuterium bromide (DBr), following its strong-field ionization. Electronic and vibrational coherences in the ionic X2Π3/2^2\Pi_{3/2} and X2Π1/2^2\Pi_{1/2} states are characterized in the Br-3d3d core-level absorption spectra via quantum beats with 12.6-fs and 19.9-fs periodicities, respectively. Polarization scans reveal that the phase of the electronic quantum beats depends on the probe direction, experimentally showing that the coherent electronic motion corresponds to the oscillation of the hole density along the ionization-field direction. The vibrational quantum beats are found to maintain a relatively constant amplitude, whereas the electronic quantum beats exhibit a partial decrease in time. Quantum wave-packet simulations show that the decoherence effect from the vibrational motion is insignificant because of the parallel relation between the X2Π3/2^2\Pi_{3/2} and X2Π1/2^2\Pi_{1/2} potentials. A comparison between the DBr and HBr results suggests that rotation motion is responsible for the decoherence since it leads to initial alignment prepared by the strong-field ionization.Comment: 7 pages, 5 figure
