    Software for storage and processing coded messages for the international exchange of meteorological information

    The approach allows representing data of international codes for exchange of meteorological information using metadescription as the formalism associated with certain categories of resources. Development of metadata components was based on an analysis of the data of surface meteorological observations, atmosphere vertical sounding, atmosphere wind sounding, weather radar observing, observations from satellites and others. A common set of metadata components was formed including classes, divisions and groups for a generalized description of the meteorological data. The structure and content of the main components of a generalized metadescription are presented in detail by the example of representation of meteorological observations from land and sea stations. The functional structure of a distributed computing system is described. It allows organizing the storage of large volumes of meteorological data for their further processing in the solution of problems of the analysis and forecasting of climatic processes

    Suspension of Mitotic Activity in Dentate Gyrus of the Hibernating Ground Squirrel

    Neurogenesis occurs in the adult mammalian hippocampus, a region of the brain important for learning and memory. Hibernation in Siberian ground squirrels provides a natural model to study mitosis as the rapid fall in body temperature in 24 h (from 35-36°C to +4–6°C) permits accumulation of mitotic cells at different stages of the cell cycle. Histological methods used to study adult neurogenesis are limited largely to fixed tissue, and the mitotic state elucidated depends on the specific phase of mitosis at the time of day. However, using an immunohistochemical study of doublecortin (DCX) and BrdU-labelled neurons, we demonstrate that the dentate gyrus of the ground squirrel hippocampus contains a population of immature cells which appear to possess mitotic activity. Our data suggest that doublecortin-labelled immature cells exist in a mitotic state and may represent a renewable pool for generation of new neurons within the dentate gyrus

    Two-point Stokes vector diagnostic approach for characterization of optically anisotropic biological tissues

    The purpose of the study is to demonstrate a new method of Stokes-correlometric evaluation of polarization-inhomogeneous images of optically thin (optical thickness smaller than 0.01) histological sections from optically anisotropic biological tissues of different morphological structure. This method is based on a correlation ('two-point') generalization of traditional optical methods for analyzing 'one-point' distributions of polarization states of microscopic images of biological tissues. Analytical algorithms are obtained for describing the 'two-point' complex parameters of the Stokes vector image of a birefringent biological tissue. An experimental technique has been developed for measuring polarization-correlation maps, i.e. the coordinate distributions of the magnitude and phase of the 'two-point' Stokes vector parameters. Within the framework of the statistical and correlation analysis of the obtained data, new quantitative criteria for the differentiation of the optical properties of biological tissues of various morphological structures are found. A comparative analysis of the distribution of the 'single-point' and 'two-point' parameters of the Stokes vector of polarizationally inhomogeneous images was performed. It revealed a higher sensitivity (2-5 times) of the Stokes-correlometry method to variations in orientation-phase structure of biological tissues compared to the single-point approach

    New chemical derivatives that possess the greatest variety of addition patterns than any other class of fullerene derivatives represent an important addition to the existing classes of perfluorocarbons, that is, compounds that are composed only of the two types of atoms, carbon and fluorine. These include aromatic and aliphatic perfluorocarbons such as perfluorodecalin, perfluorononane, hexafluorobenzene, etc., which are important as fluorous solvents used in medicine. The propensity of perfluoroalkylfullerenes (PFAFs) to readily crystallize from organic solutions upon slow evaporation in open air provided a straightforward access to their molecular structures via X-ray crystallography. Another crucial aspect that ensures future success in the characterization of numerous PFAFs of higher fullerenes and endohedral metallofullerenes is the possibility to apply HPLC methodologies to the separation of product mixtures. PFAFs, especially those of C60 and C70, are unique fullerene derivatives in terms of the number of structurally characterized derivatives with different number of RF groups and different addition patterns

    Potassium Ions are More Effective than Sodium Ions in Salt Induced Peptide Formation

    Prebiotic peptide formation under aqueous conditions in the presence of metal ions is one of the plausible triggers of the emergence of life. The salt-induced peptide formation reaction has been suggested as being prebiotically relevant and was examined for the formation of peptides in NaCl solutions. In previous work we have argued that the first protocell could have emerged in KCl solution. Using HPLC-MS/MS analysis, we found that K(+) is more than an order of magnitude more effective in the L-glutamic acid oligomerization with 1,1'-carbonyldiimidazole in aqueous solutions than the same concentration of Na(+), which is consistent with the diffusion theory calculations. We anticipate that prebiotic peptides could have formed with K(+) as the driving force, not Na(+), as commonly believed

    Noninvasive control of rhodamine-loaded capsules distribution in vivo

    Using fluorescence spectroscopy system with fibre-optical probe, we investigated the dynamics of propagation and circulation in the microcirculatory system of experimental nanocapsules fluorescent-labelled (rhodamine TRITC) nanocapsules. The studies were carried out in clinically healthy Wistar rats. The model animals were divided into control group and group received injections of the nanocapsules. The fluorescent measurements conducted transcutaneously on the thigh surface. The administration of the preparation with the rhodamine concentration of 5 mg/kg of animal weight resulted in twofold increase of fluorescence intensity by reference to the baseline level. As a result of the study, it was concluded that fluorescence spectroscopy can be used for transdermal measurements of the rhodamine-loaded capsules in vivo
