Emerging horizons for tick-borne pathogens: from the âone pathogenâone diseaseâ vision to the pathobiome paradigm
Ticks as vectors of several notorious zoonotic pathogens, represent an important and
increasing threat for human, animal health in Europe. Recent application of new
technology revealed the complexity of the tick microbiome that might impact upon its
vectorial capacity. Appreciation of these complex systems is expanding our vision of
tick-borne pathogens leading us to evolve a more integrated view that embraces the
âpathobiomeâ representing the pathogenic agent integrated within its abiotic and
biotic environments.
In this review, we will explore how this new vision will revolutionize our understanding
of tick-borne diseases. We will discuss the implications in terms of research
approach for the future in order to efficiently prevent and control the threat posed by
ticks

Emerging horizons for tick-borne pathogens: from the 'one pathogen-one disease' vision to the pathobiome paradigm
Ticks, as vectors of several notorious zoonotic pathogens, represent an important and increasing threat for human and animal health in Europe. Recent applications of new technology revealed the complexity of the tick microbiome, which may affect its vectorial capacity. Appreciation of these complex systems is expanding our understanding of tick-borne pathogens, leading us to evolve a more integrated view that embraces the 'pathobiome'; the pathogenic agent integrated within its abiotic and biotic environments. In this review, we will explore how this new vision will revolutionize our understanding of tick-borne diseases. We will discuss the implications in terms of future research approaches that will enable us to efficiently prevent and control the threat posed by ticks
Colloidosomes as micron-sized polymerisation vessels to create supracolloidal interpenetrating polymer network reinforced capsules
Supracolloidal interpenetrating polymer network reinforced capsules are prepared by using micron-sized colloidosomes of poly(methyl methacrylate-co-divinylbenzene) microgels as reaction vessels. An interpenetrating polymer network as scaffold is generated via radical polymerisation of the interior phase to produce hollow supracolloidal structures with a raspberry core-shell morphology. Their flexibility is tailored by variation of the monomer feed composition
A DNA barcode reference library of French Polynesian shore fishes
International audienceThe emergence of DNA barcoding and metabarcoding opened new ways to study biological diversity, however, the completion of DNA barcode libraries is fundamental for such approaches to succeed. This dataset is a DNA barcode reference library (fragment of Cytochrome Oxydase I gene) for 2,190 specimens representing at least 540 species of shore fishes collected over 10 years at 154 sites across the four volcanic archipelagos of French Polynesia; the Austral, Gambier, Marquesas and Society Islands, a 5,000,000 km2 area. At present, 65% of the known shore fish species of these archipelagoes possess a DNA barcode associated with preserved, photographed, tissue sampled and cataloged specimens, and extensive collection locality data. This dataset represents one of the most comprehensive DNA barcoding efforts for a vertebrate fauna to date. Considering the challenges associated with the conservation of coral reef fishes and the difficulties of accurately identifying species using morphological characters, this publicly available library is expected to be helpful for both authorities and academics in various fields
