Assessing the Electrochemical Performance of Different Nanostructured CeO2 Samples as Anodes for Lithium-Ion Batteries

In this work, six samples of CeO2 are successfully prepared by diverse synthesis routes leading to different microstructures regarding both morphology and particle size. The structural and microstructural characteristics presented by the samples and their influence on the electrochemical response of the prepared anodes are analyzed. In particular, the Ce-CMK3 sample, synthesized from a mesoporous carbon obtained through a CMK3 silica template, displays an enhanced electrochemical response. Thus, capacity values of ~220 mA h g−1 are obtained at a current rate of 0.155 A g−1 after 50 cycles and an excellent cyclability at intermediate current densities. On the other hand, it is observed that the capacity values are satisfactorily recovered at 0.31 A g−1, displaying ~100 mA h g−1 after 550 cycles and efficiencies close to 100%. Espacios educativos universitarios: una mirada desde los estudiantes

Introduction: Educational spaces are configurative scenarios of academic life and experiences for the personal and professional development of students. Objective: To interpret the perceptions of students of a public university on educational spaces. Methodology: Qualitative research, interpretive descriptive. focus group techniques and in-depth interviews with leading students. information analyzed from hermeneutics. Results and discussion: Perceptions about physical spaces, facilities and furniture were interpreted as inhibiting the quality of life; perception of security-insecurity in the city is evident, the use of bicycles was valued to promote socialization, health and learning. The dispersion of university campuses in the city is considered a barrier for daily interactions. Conclusions: The university is life experience, it allows to build and strengthen university trajectories, which relate to experiences in the spaces of the city and contribute the educational process in a differential way.  Introducción: Los espacios educativos son escenarios configuradores de la vida académica y de experiencias para el desarrollo personal y profesional de estudiantes. Objetivo: Interpretar las percepciones de los estudiantes de una universidad pública sobre los espacios educativos. Metodología: Investigación cualitativa, descriptiva interpretativa, técnicas grupos focales y entrevistas en profundidad con estudiantes líderes. Información analizada desde la hermenéutica. Resultados y discusión: Las percepciones sobre espacios físicos, instalaciones y el mobiliario, fueron interpretadas como agente inhibidor de la calidad de vida; se evidencia percepción de seguridad-inseguridad en la ciudad, el uso de bicicleta fue valorado para favorecer la socialización, la salud y el aprendizaje. La dispersión de sedes de la universidad en la ciudad se considera barrera para interacciones cotidianas. Conclusiones: La universidad es experiencia de vida, permite construir y fortalecer trayectorias universitarias, que se relacionan con vivencias en los espacios de la ciudad y aportan el proceso educativo de manera diferencial

Characterization of New Proteomic Biomarker Candidates in Mucopolysaccharidosis Type IVA

Mucopolysaccharidosis type IVA (MPS IVA) is a lysosomal storage disease caused by mutations in the N-acetylgalactosamine-6-sulfatase (GALNS) gene. Skeletal dysplasia and the related clinical features of MPS IVA are caused by disruption of the cartilage and its extracellular matrix, leading to a growth imbalance. Enzyme replacement therapy (ERT) with recombinant human GALNS has yielded positive results in activity of daily living and endurance tests. However, no data have demonstrated improvements in bone lesions and bone grow thin MPS IVA after ERT, and there is no correlation between therapeutic efficacy and urine levels of keratan sulfate, which accumulates in MPS IVA patients. Using qualitative and quantitative proteomics approaches, we analyzed leukocyte samples from healthy controls (n = 6) and from untreated (n = 5) and ERT-treated (n = 8, sampled before and after treatment) MPS IVA patients to identify potential biomarkers of disease. Out of 690 proteins identified in leukocytes, we selected a group of proteins that were dysregulated in MPS IVA patients with ERT. From these, we identified four potential protein biomarkers, all of which may influence bone and cartilage metabolism: lactotransferrin, coronin 1A, neutral alpha-glucosidase AB, and vitronectin. Further studies of cartilage and bone alterations in MPS IVA will be required to verify the validity of these proteins as potential biomarkers of MPS IVAS

Risk behaviors in university students: the route to focus educational actions from the curricula

La presente investigación buscó identificar y analizar la evidencia científica con relación a los comportamientos de riesgo en los estudiantes universitarios, a través de un estudio descriptivo documental de la literatura científica mediante la búsqueda en las bases de datos Scielo, PubMed, Redalyc y LILACS; se seleccionaron artículos publicados desde 2010 al 2016, cuyos participantes fueran estudiantes universitarios. Los descriptores fueron: comportamientos de riesgo, factor de riesgo, estudiantes, jóvenes y sus equivalentes en inglés y portugués. Las estrategias de búsqueda se estructuraron mediante la combinación de diferentes descriptores con los operadores booleanos: AND y OR. La muestra final fue de 21 artículos. La evidencia científica permite identificar comportamientos de riesgo en estudiantes universitarios como sedentarismo, estrés, conductas de riesgo frente a la salud sexual y reproductiva, consumo de drogas, entre otros, sobre los cuales es necesario orientar las acciones educativas en el contexto de los currículos universitarios con enfoque humanísticoThis research sought to identify and analyze the scientific evidence regarding risk behaviors in university students through a descriptive documentary study of scientific literature through the search in the databases Scielo, PubMed, Redalyc and LILACS. Zr supported on non-acidic sepiolite for the efficient one-pot transformation of furfural into γ-valerolactone

10 figures y 4 tables.-- Supplementary information available.The growing demand of energy needs the search for alternative energy sources different to fossil fuels. The use of biomass as energy source is one of the most studied, because there are high value products that can be produced from biomass. One of these products is γ-valerolactone, that can be obtained from furfural, which is a biomass derived product. To transform furfural into γ-valerolactone is necessary a bifunctional catalyst and a hydrogen source. In this work, γ-valerolactone was obtained from furfural using 2-propanol as solvent and as hydrogen donor on Zr supported on sepiolite catalysts. It was demonstrated that sepiolite, which is a cheap material, can be used to develop efficient catalysts to produce high yields to γ-valerolactone from furfural in one-pot. The catalysts that presented the highest yield to γ-valerolactone were the ones with intermediate Zr-content (9–17 wt% ZrO2). The highest TOFs have been obtained by those catalysts with Zr-loading up to 9 wt% ZrO2, in which the ZrO2 nanoparticles are well dispersed on the support and no formation of large clusters of ZrO2 has been observed. Lewis and Brønsted acid sites are essential in the catalysts to produce the reactions to transform furfural into γ-valerolactone in one-pot, although in the present work, low concentration of Brønsted acid sites were observed in the catalysts. A possible positive role of basic sites to promote some intermediate steps has been also proposed. En las tres primeras semanas de agosto, concretamente los días 4, 14 y 18, nuestra querida Institución, recibió 132 jóvenes oradores, de quince Colegios de Bucaramanga y del área metropolitana, interesados en participar en la segunda versión del Concurso de Oratoria; el área de Lengua Castellana quiere resaltar la, cada vez más positiva, acogida a este magno evento, cuyo objetivo central se enfoca en posibilitar un espacio significativo para los jóvenes educandos de los grados noveno, décimo y undécimo, con el fin de poner en práctica sus habilidades comunicativas, el planteamiento de sus ideas y el desarrollo del pensamiento crítico, a través de la palabra; este año los discursos se centraron en la relación que los jóvenes pueden establecer entre paz, literatura y medios de comunicación; es interesante y gratificante ver cómo los jóvenes, aceptaron este reto y, para las eliminatorias de este año, se presentaron casi el triple de los participantes del año anterior (47, asistieron en el año 2014); se seleccionaron 17 finalistas, que se disputaron los tres primeros lugares en la gran final, el 28 de Agosto, en el marco de Ulibro 2015. A Fundación Pública Urxencias Sanitarias de Galicia-061 é a encargada de proporcionar, desde o momento que ocorre a emerxencia, un control da situación, unha primeira avaliación e unha asistencia sanitaria que logre salvar o maior número de vidas e volver á normalidade o antes posible. Para isto, a actuación sanitaria debe seguir unha metodoloxía perfectamente establecida, xa que as actuacións organizadas son as mellores ferramentas de traballo. Así pois, é necesario posibilitar normas de actuación o máis protocolizadas posible, para poder traballar nas mellores condicións de seguridade e manter unhas directrices xerais, onde cada persoa coñeza tanto a súa función como a do resto dos componentes do equipo, procedendo, ademais, á súa identificación funcional mediante signos externos (uniformidade, carteis, identificación, etc.); para facilitar o entendemento e a coordinación de todos os implicados en resolver a situación acaecida. Con este fin, preséntase o Plan de emerxencias que a continuación se expón, nun afán de dar sempre a mellor e máis axeitada resposta; obxectivo primordial desde que a FPUS de Galicia–061 se instaura como responsable da medicina prehospitalaria na nosa comunidade autónoma.La Fundación Pública Urxencias Sanitarias de Galicia-061 es la encargada de proporcionar, desde el momento en que ocurre la emergencia, un control de la situación, una primera evaluación y una asistencia sanitaria que logre salvar el mayor número de vidas y volver a la normalidad lo antes posible.
