The content analysis methodology. Uses and applications in communication research on Spanish-speaking countries
Based on a conceptual review of the content analysis research method, this article identifies meta-research studies that confirm the relevance of this technique in the atomised field of communication sciences. In light of the empirical evidence, this study is based on an analysis of 262 papers that use this tool and were published in major Spanish-language journals between 2013 and 2017. At instrumental level, bibliometric exploration is combined with content analysis itself, considering 18 categories, such as authorship, funding, sampling method and reporting of intercoder reliability. The results indicate that there is a steady annual growth in the number of papers produced by researchers affiliated to Spanish universities. These papers have more than two authors on average and often lack additional financial resources. As for the implementation of the content analysis method, it is generally applied to non-probabilistic samples and does not involve any intercoder reliability assessment and reporting. A series of recommendations are offered for researchers in Spain and in Latin America to meet international standards.
Pressure-induced metal-insulator transition in MgV_2O_4
On the basis of experimental thermoelectric power results and ab initio
calculations, we propose that a metal-insulator transition takes place at high
pressure (approximately 6 GPa) in MgV_2O_4.Comment: 2 pages, 3 figures, accepted in Physica B (Strongly Correlated

Enhanced dimerization of TiOCl under pressure: spin-Peierls - to - Peierls transition
We report high-pressure x-ray diffraction and magnetization measurements
combined with ab-initio calculations to demonstrate that the high-pressure
optical and transport transitions recently reported in TiOCl, correspond in
fact to an enhanced Ti3+-Ti3+ dimerization existing already at room
temperature. Our results confirm the formation of a metal-metal bond between
Ti3+ ions along the b-axis of TiOCl, accompanied by a strong reduction of the
electronic gap. The evolution of the dimerization with pressure suggests a
crossover from the spin-Peierls to a conventional Peierls situation at high
pressures.Comment: 9pages, 4 figure
Fermiology and transport properties of the half-metallic itinerant ferromagnet CoS: influence of spin orbit coupling
Electronic structure calculations were performed on the compound CoS, an
itinerant ferromagnet whose magnetic properties can be understood in terms of
spin fluctuation theory. We have identified nesting features in the Fermi
surface of the compound, active for long wavelength spin fluctuations. The
electronic structure of the material is close to a half-metal. We show the
importance of introducing spin-orbit coupling (SOC) in the calculations, that
partially destroys the half-metallicity of the material. By means of transport
properties calculations, we have quantified the influence of SOC in the
conductivity at room temperature, with an important decrease comparing to the
GGA alone conductivity. SOC also helps to understand the negative 0 of the
material, whose conductivity varies by a few percent with the introduction of
small perturbations in the states around the Fermi level.Comment: 8 pages, 8 figure
Ab initio study of the influence of nanoscale doping inhomogeneities in the phase separated state of LaCaMnO
The chemical influence in the phase separation phenomenon that occurs in
perovskite manganites is discussed by means of ab initio calculations.
Supercells have been used to simulate a phase separated state, that occurs at
Ca concentrations close to the localized to itinerant crossover. We have first
considered a model with two types of magnetic ordering coexisting within the
same compound. This is not stable. However, a non-isotropic distribution of
chemical dopants is found to be the ground state. This leads to regions in the
system with different effective concentrations, that would always accompany the
magnetic phase separation at the same nanometric scale, with hole-rich regions
being more ferromagnetic in character and hole-poor regions being in the
antiferromagnetic region of the phase diagram, as long as the system is close
to a phase crossover.Comment: 8 pages, 7 figures, 1 tabl
Stellar activity in barium stars .1. Analysis of H-lines and K-lines CA-II-lines in 10 barium stars
High dispersion spectra have been obtained in order to study the activity level of ten barium stars by means of the Ca II H and K emission flux, looking for a relation between barium intensity index and activity. Absolute magnitudes obtained from the Wilson-Bappu relationship disagree, in some cases, with the magnitudes computed from parallaxes, but this fact is not due to barium nature. Total emission fluxes, F(H + K) or R_HK index, plotted versus effective temperature show a distribution similar to that of cool giant stars. The asymmetry of K emission line, [F(K_2ν)/F(K_2r)], has been analyzed in relation with effective temperature, in this sense barium stars behave as expected of late-type giants with the only exception of two stars
AGR2, an Endoplasmic Reticulum Protein, Is Secreted into the Gastrointestinal Mucus
The MUC2 mucin is the major constituent of the two mucus layers in colon. Mice lacking the disulfide isomerase-like protein Agr2 have been shown to be more susceptible to colon inflammation. The Agr2(-/-) mice have less filled goblet cells and were now shown to have a poorly developed inner colon mucus layer. We could not show AGR2 covalently bound to recombinant MUC2 N- and C-termini as have previously been suggested. We found relatively high concentrations of Agr2 in secreted mucus throughout the murine gastrointestinal tract, suggesting that Agr2 may play extracellular roles. In tissue culture (CHO-K1) cells, AGR2 is normally not secreted. Replacement of the single Cys in AGR2 with Ser (C81S) allowed secretion, suggesting that modification of this Cys might provide a mechanism for circumventing the KTEL endoplasmic reticulum retention signal. In conclusion, these results suggest that AGR2 has both intracellular and extracellular effects in the intestine
Non-one-dimensional behavior in charge-ordered structurally quasi-one-dimensional Sr6Co5O15
We have synthesized Sr6Co5O15, a quasi-one-dimensional oxide, measured its magnetic properties, and calculated its electronic structure by ab initio techniques. We have found strong evidence for its electronic and magnetic behavior not to follow the trend of its structural series. The magnetic coupling inside the CoO3
chains is not purely ferromagnetic, and the long-range coupling inside the chains is very weak. The Co moments are slightly canted due to their large orbital angular momenta being oriented along each particular quantization axis, which is different for each Co4+ atom in the structure. Our thermopower calculations are in agreement with the experiment, supporting our model of the magnetic ground state of the compound.Fil: Botana, A. S..
