Understanding Why Older Adults With Type 2 Diabetes Join Diabetes Online Communities: Semantic Network Analyses.
BackgroundAs individuals age, chronic health difficulties may disrupt physical and social well-being. Individuals can turn to online communities to interact with similar peers, which may help buffer negative effects resulting from health difficulties.ObjectiveThis study investigated the reasons that older adults join a diabetes online community to better understand the specific resources that are being sought.MethodsWe used semantic network analyses to categorize the reasons participants provided for joining a community during the sign-up process.ResultsThe most frequent reasons for joining were to seek information about their health condition, to help with self-management of health difficulties, for feelings of informational and social support, and for having a community with whom to share. Women were more likely to go online for sharing and companionship as well as for information and social support reasons, whereas men were more likely to go online for general information and self-management reasons.ConclusionsThis study shows the reasons older adults seek to join a diabetes online community: for increased information and support regarding chronic health difficulties. Practitioners may want to consider ways to promote access to online communities among their older patients as a source of health information and a resource to provide a sense of community
Lagrangian of Self-dual Gauge Fields in Various Formulations
The Lagrangian of self-dual gauge theory in various formulations are
reviewed. From these results we see a simple rule and use it to present some
new non-covariant Lagrangian based on the decomposition of spacetime into
. Our prescription could be easily extended to more complex
decomposition of spacetime and some more examples are presented therefore. The
self-dual property of the new Lagrangian is proved in detail. We also show that

Structural Insights into Rational Design of Single-Domain Antibody-Based Antitoxins against Botulinum Neurotoxins.
Botulinum neurotoxin (BoNT) is one of the most acutely lethal toxins known to humans, and effective treatment for BoNT intoxication is urgently needed. Single-domain antibodies (VHH) have been examined as a countermeasure for BoNT because of their high stability and ease of production. Here, we investigate the structures and the neutralization mechanisms for six unique VHHs targeting BoNT/A1 or BoNT/B1. These studies reveal diverse neutralizing mechanisms by which VHHs prevent host receptor binding or block transmembrane delivery of the BoNT protease domain. Guided by this knowledge, we design heterodimeric VHHs by connecting two neutralizing VHHs via a flexible spacer so they can bind simultaneously to the toxin. These bifunctional VHHs display much greater potency in a mouse co-intoxication model than similar heterodimers unable to bind simultaneously. Taken together, our studies offer insight into antibody neutralization of BoNTs and advance our ability to design multivalent anti-pathogen VHHs with improved therapeutic properties
BPS States on M5-brane in Large C-field Background
We extensively study BPS solutions of the low energy effective theory of
M5-brane in large C-field background. This provides us an opportunity to
explore the interactions turned on by C-field background through the
Nambu-Poisson structure. The BPS states considered in this paper include the
M-waves, the self-dual string (M2 ending on M5), tilted M5-brane, holomorphic

A No-Go Theorem for M5-brane Theory
The BLG model for multiple M2-branes motivates an M5-brane theory with a
novel gauge symmetry defined by the Nambu-Poisson structure. This Nambu-Poisson
gauge symmetry for an M5-brane in large C-field background can be matched, on
double dimension reduction, with the Poisson limit of the noncommutative gauge
symmetry for a D4-brane in B-field background. Naively, one expects that there
should exist a certain deformation of the Nambu-Poisson structure to match with
the full noncommutative gauge symmetry including higher order terms. However,
We prove the no-go theorem that there is no way to deform the Nambu-Poisson
gauge symmetry, even without assuming the existence of a deformation of
Nambu-Poisson bracket, to match with the noncommutative gauge symmetry in 4+1
dimensions to all order, regardless of how the double dimension reduction is

Is the Broad-Line Region Clumped or Smooth? Constraints from the H alpha Profile in NGC 4395, the Least Luminous Seyfert 1 Galaxy
The origin and configuration of the gas which emits broad lines in Type I
active galactic nuclei is not established yet. The lack of small-scale
structure in the broad emission-line profiles is consistent with a smooth gas
flow, or a clumped flow with many small clouds. An attractive possibility for
the origin of many small clouds is the atmospheres of bloated stars, an origin
which also provides a natural mechanism for the cloud confinement. Earlier
studies of the broad-line profiles have already put strong lower limits on the
minimum number of such stars, but these limits are sensitive to the assumed
width of the lines produced by each cloud. Here we revisit this problem using
high-resolution Keck spectra of the H alpha line in NGC 4395, which has the
smallest known broad-line region (~10^14 cm). Only a handful of the required
bloated stars (each having r~10^14 cm) could fit into the broad-line region of
NGC 4395, yet the observed smoothness of the H alpha line implies a lower limit
of ~10^4-10^5 on the number of discrete clouds. This rules out conclusively the
bloated-stars scenario, regardless of any plausible line-broadening mechanisms.
The upper limit on the size of the clouds is ~10^12 cm, which is comparable to
the size implied by photoionization models. This strongly suggests that gas in
the broad-line region is structured as a smooth rather than a clumped flow,
most likely in a rotationally dominated thick disk-like configuration. However,
it remains to be clarified why such a smooth, gravity-dominated flow generates
double-peaked emission lines only in a small fraction of active galactic

Follow-Up Study of Youth Who Received EIBI as Young Children
Although early intensive behavioral intervention (EIBI) has been clearly shown to be evidence-based, there is very little information available regarding long-term outcomes, especially from community effectiveness studies. We present data on cognitive, adaptive, and autism severity measures from four time points (pre- and post-EIBI and two follow-up points) for a sample of 21 youth, currently aged 16 years on average (range = 13-20) who received EIBI as young children and who have been out of EIBI for a mean of 10 years (range = 8.5-14). Results show heterogeneous outcomes and a general pattern of stability since the end of EIBI, suggesting gains made in EIBI are maintained
Relationship Between Grit with Academic Performance and Attainment of Postgraduate Training in Pharmacy Students
Objective. To determine if Grit-S scores correlate with academic success in a doctor of pharmacy (PharmD) program, as well as the pursuit and attainment of pharmacy postgraduate (residency or fellowship) training.
Methods. A 28-item survey was administered to third- and fourth-year (P3 and P4) pharmacy students. Variables queried included Grit-S score, demographics, pharmacy experience prior to the PharmD program, and factors that may affect academic performance during didactic coursework. Didactic coursework GPA was used as a surrogate for academic success. Information about pursuit and attainment of a postgraduate training position was also documented and used in the analyses.
Results. There was no significant correlation between Grit-S scores and variables related to academic success. However, students were more likely to pursue postgraduate training with higher academic success and higher Grit-S. Lastly, students with higher Grit-S were also more likely to obtain a postgraduate training position.
Conclusion. Grit-S scores correlated with the pursuit and successful attainment of postgraduate training, but not with academic success during the didactic years of a PharmD program
On Effective Action of Multiple M5-branes and ABJM Action
We calculate the fluctuations from the classical multiple M5-brane solution
of ABJM action which we found in the previous paper. We obtain D4-brane-like
action but the gauge coupling constant depends on the spacetime coordinate.
This is consistent with the expected properties of M5-brane action, although we
will need to take into account the monopole operators in order to fully
understand M5-branes. We also see that the Nambu-Poisson bracket is hidden in
