Impact of Beyond the Standard Model Physics in the Detection of the Cosmic Neutrino Background
We discuss the effect of Beyond the Standard Model charged current
interactions on the detection of the Cosmic Neutrino Background by neutrino
capture on tritium in a PTOLEMY-like detector. We show that the total capture
rate can be substantially modified for Dirac neutrinos if scalar or tensor
right-chiral currents, with strength consistent with current experimental
bounds, are at play. We find that the total capture rate for Dirac neutrinos,
, can be between 0.3 to 2.2 of what is expected for
Dirac neutrinos in the Standard Model, , so that it
can be made as large as the rate expected for Majorana neutrinos with only
Standard Model interactions. A non-negligible primordial abundance of
right-handed neutrinos can only worsen the situation, increasing by 30 to 90\%. On the other hand, if a much lower total rate is
measured than what is expected for , it may be a sign
of new physics.Comment: Version published in JHEP. Some comments and references adde
Limits on Neutrinophilic Two-Higgs-Doublet Models from Flavor Physics
We derive stringent limits on neutrinophilic two-Higgs-doublet models from
low-energy observables after the discovery of the Higgs boson and of the mixing
angle . These decays can constrain the plane spanned by
, the mass of the new charged Higgs, and , the vacuum
expectation value of the new neutrinophilic scalar doublet. Lepton flavor
conserving decays are not able to set meaningful bounds, since they depend
strongly on the unknown neutrino absolute mass scale. On the other hand, loop
induced lepton flavor violating decays, such as , or in nuclei are currently responsable for the best limits
today. If eV we get
GeV at 90% CL. In the foreseen future these limits can improve by at least a
factor of 100.Comment: 15 pages, 5 figures, references and comments added, conclusions

Neutrino Discovery Limit of Dark Matter Direct Detection Experiments in the Presence of Non-Standard Interactions
The detection of coherent neutrino-nucleus scattering by the COHERENT
collaboration has set on quantitative grounds the existence of an irreducible
neutrino background in direct detection searches of Weakly Interacting Massive
Dark Matter candidates. This background leads to an ultimate discovery limit
for these experiments: a minimum Dark Matter interaction cross section below
which events produced by the coherent neutrino scattering will mimic the Dark
Matter signal, the so-called \emph{neutrino floor}. In this work we study the
modification of such neutrino floor induced by non-standard neutrino
interactions within their presently allowed values by the global analysis of
oscillation and COHERENT data. By using the full likelihood information of such
global analysis we consistently account for the correlated effects of
non-standard neutrino interactions both in the neutrino propagation in matter
and in its interaction in the detector. We quantify their impact on the
neutrino floor for five future experiments: DARWIN (Xe), ARGO (Ar), Super-CDMS
HV (Ge and Si) and CRESST phase III (CaWO). Quantitatively, we find that
non-standard neutrino interactions allowed at the level can result in
an increase of the neutrino floor of up to a factor with respect to
the Standard Model expectations and impact the expected sensitivities of the
ARGO, CRESST phase III and DARWIN experiments.Comment: 21 pages, 4 figures. Matches version published in the JHEP. Corrected

Functionality of egg white proteins as affected by high intensity ultrasound
The goal of this contribution was to determine the impact of HIUS on the thermal aggregation, gelation, foaming and emulsifying properties of egg white (EW) proteins.EW solutions were sonicated for 20 min using an ultrasonic processor Vibra Cell Sonics, model VCX 750 (frequency: 20 kHz; amplitude: 20%). The following properties were determined: particle size distribution by light scattering, the dynamics of gelation upon time and temperature (70, 75, 80 and 85 °C), surface hydrophobicity, concentration of sulfhydryl (SH) groups, denaturation temperatures (Tpeak), bulk viscosity, foaming by a whipping method and emulsifying properties by the use of a vertical scan analyzer and droplet size determinations. In order to study aggregation, EW solutions were heated in a dry bath at 70, 75, 80 and 85 °C for different periods of time from 0 to 30 min and analyzed by static light scattering and confocal laser scanning microscopy.Surface hydrophobicity increased after sonication, but total SH content was not affected. The apparent viscosity decreased, which seemed to affect the stability of foams prepared with sonicated protein. Emulsions from sonicated samples resulted more stable to creaming and flocculation. The gelation temperature of EW did not vary substantially after sonication as well as the gelation properties studied. The rate of formation of aggregates upon heating was accelerated by sonication. This fact could be attributed to the increase in hydrophobicity of the protein. Thus, HIUS could allow improving some functional properties of EW.Fil: Arzeni, Carolina.
Sensorial, physico-chemical and functional profile of coalho cheese commercialized in Campinas, SP
The objective of this work was to characterize the consumer and the producing industries, to determine the physico-chemical, sensorial and functional profile of ¿coalho¿ cheese commercialized in Campinas, S.P. The study was carried out in three steps: 1) characterization of the producing industries of commercial ¿coalho¿ cheese, found in Campinas city; 2) determination of ¿coalho¿ cheese consumer profile of Campinas, S.P.; 3) characterization of the seven brands of ¿coalho¿ cheese, found in Campinas, in relation to its composition, functionality and sensorial characteristics. In the first step, a questionnaire was sent to the seven producing industries of ¿coalho¿ cheese, which generated information on the characteristics of the companies and the used procedure of manufacture. In general, they are small to average size cheese industries that distribute the cheese mainly for the state of São Paulo. There was a large variation among cheesemaking procedure used by the industries. However, all of them use manufacture procedures aiming to inhibit or decrease the action of the coagulant and starter in order to obtain a cheese with low melting capacity which does not flow off when grilled, a characteristic required by the consummer and determinant for the purchase intention of the product. In the second step, to know the consumer profile, a questionnaire was applied at a big supermarket of Campinas city. The consumers stated the cheese is consumed mainly in the grilled form and that its flavor is the most appreciated cheese attribute. In the third step, seven different brands of ¿coalho¿ cheese, presenting similar dates of manufacture, were collected, in three different occasions, on the great supermarkets of Campinas, S.P.. The cheese composition was determined and the changes occurring during the 90 days of refrigerated storage (proteolysis, functional properties and sensorial characteristics) were monitored. At 30 and 60 days of storage, the cheeses were evaluated for sensorial acceptance and buying intention. There was a great variation on cheese composition for the different brands studied. The cheese of the brand E could be considered atypical, for not fitting the requirements of Brazilian law and for presenting great differences in composition, sensorial and functional properties as compared with other cheeses. In general, the cheeses showed high pH and low titratable acidity. All the cheeses presented low extension and depth of proteolysis resulting in cheeses with low melting capacity. There was no significant difference in the melting capacity among the studied brands and with the aging time; this fact is highly desirable because high cheese melting determines the end of its shelf life. The Quantitative Descriptive Analysis showed that the evaluated brands have distinct sensorial profiles. Each brand presented sensorial attributes that were marked and well defined. Brand C was the preferred cheese and the flavor, the most appreciated characteristic. The Principal Component Analyses (PCA), showed that the cheeses of brand C was characterized for the attributes flavor and aroma of butter. These attributes, most valued by the cheese consumers, could be related to the thermal treatment of milk (68-69ºC/5min), used only for the brand C. This different thermal treatment might have selected microorganisms and thus, enzymes able to produce diacetil, component responsible for the flavor and aroma of butterMestradoMestre em Tecnologia de Alimento

Contracting behaviour in three species of Phyllomedusa (Anura: Hylidae: Phyllomedusinae)
We report in the present study the occurrence of contracting defensive behaviour in three treefrogs of the genus Phyllomedusa: P. azurea, P. iheringii and P. tetraploidea. It consisted of limbs bent close to the body, dorsum arched with the head towards the belly, and eyes partially closed. This behaviour was previously unreported for P. iheringii and P. tetraploidea and it seems to be a passive defensive strategy against snakes or other predators, characteristic of phyllomedusine frogs.Fil: Borteiro, Claudio. Z's in neutrino scattering at DUNE
Novel leptophilic neutral currents can be tested at upcoming neutrino oscillation experiments using two complementary processes, neutrino trident production and neutrino-electron (ν − e) elastic scattering. Considering generic anomaly-free Uð1Þ extensions of the Standard Model, we discuss the characteristics of ν − e scattering as well as eþe− and μþμ− trident production at the DUNE near detector in the presence of such beyond the Standard Model scenarios. We then determine the sensitivity of DUNE in constraining the well-known Le − Lμ and Lμ − Lτ models. We conclude that DUNE will be able to probe these leptophilic models with unprecedented sensitivity, covering unproved explanations of the ðg − 2Þμ discrepancy
