Sistemas de abastecimento de água e saneamento básico

O presente relatório enquadra-se no âmbito do trabalho final de Mestrado do curso de Engenharia Civil, área de especialização de Hidráulica, do Instituto Superior de Engenharia de Lisboa, sobre a temática dos sistemas de abastecimento de água e de drenagem de águas residuais domésticas e pluviais. O estágio teve lugar na empresa ENGIDRO – Estudos de Engenharia, Lda., e teve como objecto uma prestação de serviços para a ANA – Aeroportos de Portugal, S.A., que consistiu no levantamento e diagnóstico dos sistemas de abastecimento de água, de drenagem de águas residuais domésticas e pluviais, de coberturas e fachadas, do Terminal 1 do Aeroporto de Lisboa. O Aeroporto de Lisboa é uma estrutura com 67 anos, que tem vindo a ser constantemente ampliada, apresentando por isso uma grande diversidade de materiais e processos construtivos. Essa diversidade poderá ser uma das causas para alguns problemas detectados durante a presente prestação de serviços. Para esta prestação de serviços foram efectuados trabalhos de campo, que consistiram na inspecção cuidadosa e registo detalhado das características dos elementos existentes abrangidos pelo estudo, e trabalhos de gabinete, que consistiram na compilação e tratamento dos dados obtidos no campo, para que no final fosse elaborado um relatório com o levantamento e diagnóstico dos sistemas mencionados, com identificação e descrição das principais patologias relacionadas com o seu dimensionamento, estados de conservação e de manutenção. Ao longo dos trabalhos de campo foram encontradas diversas condicionantes e dificuldades, como seria de esperar numa estrutura desta dimensão, e que foram sendo ultrapassadas com o planeamento atempado desses trabalhos. O Aeroporto de Lisboa, em particular o Terminal 1, é uma estrutura dinâmica e sempre em mutação, o que ficou comprovado no final desta prestação de serviços

Impact of pandemics and war in EU’s cohesion policy:problematics and challenges

The impact of Russia’s war in Ukraine, as another external shock, in EU’s economy and society is clearly high. It arrived just when another external shock (the convid-19 pandemic) was getting absorbed and overcome. This research frames this war in an historic evolution of multiple political factors in Europe and then characterizes the consequences of this external shock. Then an analysis of the degree of asymmetry in the distribution of those impacts across the EU regions is made and a framework for the following years is proposed: the quadruple transition. The paper finishes with an assessment of how these four transitions are assuming different paces in different EU regions, calling for an intervention of EU’s cohesion policy.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

The measurement by serological means of the impact of the Hong Kong/68 influenza virus on a population

In order to obtain evidence on the size of the impact of the Hong Kong/68 variant of influenza A2 virus on the population of São Paulo, Brazil, serum samples taken in 1967 before this variant appeared and during successive years after it appeared were examined for their antibody content. Haemagglutination-inhibition tests performed on a total of 2726 serum samples from adults showed a sharp decrease in 1969 of the proportion of sera without antibody to the Hong Kong/68 variant and a corresponding mercase in the proportion with high titres. It was concluded that about three-quarters of the adult population became infected at some time after the variant appeared, the majority in the first year of prevalence.Objetivou-se evidenciar a intensidade da ação da variante Hong Kong/68 do virus da influenza A2 sobre a população de São Paulo, Brasil. Para tanto, foram coletados soros em 1967, antes do aparecimento dessa variante e durante anos seguintes à sua presença, para investigação de seu conteúdo em anticorpos. As provas de inibição da hemaglutinação, levadas a efeito em 2726 amostras de adultos, mostraram acentuada declínio em 1969, relativo à proporção de soros sem anticorpos para Hong Kong/68 e correspondente aumento na proporção com títulos elevados. Conclui-se que cerca de tres quartos da população adulta adquiriu a infecção algum tempo após o aparecimento da variante, a maioria no primeiro ano de prevalência

Public interactive displays in schools : involving teachers in the design and assessment of innovative technologies.

The introduction of an innovative technology in schools has the potential to change the education system, bringing major changes in the way teachers work, students learn challenging the way schools are managed. Informed by literature that sustains integration of technological innovations in educational contexts is influenced by instrumental factors such as school leadership and organizational structure (Dix, 2007) and using a development research approach, three hands-on workshops were conducted with a criterion sample of teachers of a secondary school from the north of Portugal in order to elicit expectations towards the use of digital displays to viewing videos, explore possible features for the system design as well as the management of the technological device in the school system. Development research methodology showed to produce usable findings that were born out of the collaborative partnership between researchers and stakeholders focused around inquiry that is of interest to educational leaders and teachers with the intention to inform and transform pedagogical practices. In sum, the development research approach allowed, for one hand, the conception of a new tool pedagogically adjusted to students learning needs as well as to the school organizational rules and structures. Tuning pipelined scientific data analyses for efficient multicore execution

Scientific data analyses often apply a pipelined sequence of computational tasks to independent datasets. Each task in the pipeline captures and processes a dataset element, may be dependent on other tasks in the pipeline, may have a different computational complexity and may be filtered out from progressing in the pipeline. The goal of this work is to develop an efficient scheduler that automatically (i) manages a parallel data reading and an adequate data structure creation, (ii) adaptively defines the most efficient order of pipeline execution of the tasks, considering their inter-dependence and both the filtering out rate and the computational weight, and (iii) manages the parallel execution of the computational tasks in a multicore system, applied to the same or to different dataset elements. A real case study data analysis application from High Energy Physics (HEP) was used to validate the efficiency of this scheduler. Preliminary results show an impressive performance improvement of the pipeline tuning when compared to the original sequential HEP code (up to a 35x speedup in a dual 12-core system), and also show significant performance speedups over conventional parallelization approaches of this case study application (up to 10x faster in the same system).Project Search-ON2 (NORTE-07-0162- FEDER-000086), co-funded by the North Portugal Regional Operational Programme (ON.2 - O Novo Norte), under the National Strategic Reference Framework, through the European Regional Development Fund

Edição criativa de vídeos e sua partilha em ecrãs públicos na escola: um estudo exploratório

O artigo apresenta um estudo exploratório que teve por objetivo perceber se através da edição criativa de vídeos explicativos pelos próprios alunos, estes desenvolvem competências sobre os conceitos trabalhados, para assim identificar as mais-valias do vídeo no processo de ensino-aprendizagem. No processo investigativo optámos por uma metodologia mista, envolvendo a recolha de dados quantitativos e qualitativos. O estudo iniciou-se com a recolha de threshold concepts junto dos professores. Prosseguiu com a edição criativa de vídeos pelos alunos e partilha num ecrã público. A análise dos dados permitiu perceber que foi uma experiência enriquedora para os alunos, que alguns professores já recorrem ao vídeo na sua prática letiva, que a construção colaborativa de vídeo favorece a motivação dos alunos e que a tecnologia com que lidam diariamente pode aliar-se à pedagogia sob orientação especializada.The paper presents an exploratory study that aimed to comprehend if with creative video editing students develop competences about the threshold concepts studied, so as to identify the gain of using video in the teaching and learning practice. In the research process we adopted a mixed methodology involving quantitative and qualitative data collection. The study began with gathering the threshold concepts among teachers. Continued with creative video editing by students and sharing it in a public display. HEP-Frame: A software engineered framework to aid the development and efficient multicore execution of scientific code

This communication presents an evolutionary soft- ware prototype of a user-centered Highly Efficient Pipelined Framework, HEP-Frame, to aid the development of sustainable parallel scientific code with a flexible pipeline structure. HEP- Frame is the result of a tight collaboration between computational scientists and software engineers: it aims to improve scientists coding productivity, ensuring an efficient parallel execution on a wide set of multicore systems, with both HPC and HTC techniques. Current prototype complies with the requirements of an actual scientific code, includes desirable sustainability features and supports at compile time additional plugin interfaces for other scientific fields.
