Social marketing has been developed to create a change in people’s attitudes toward the achievement of public health and social welfare. Social marketing techniques are used for health promotion, prevention of injuries, environmental protection, and social awareness. This study aims to explore the attitudes of Greek citizens toward the impact of social marketing techniques on their awareness of public health in general and their fight against COVID-19 in particular. A primary survey was conducted in May–June 2021 to a random sample of Greek citizens. Principal component analysis (PCA) was conducted to identify the main attitudes of Greek millennials toward the impact of social marketing on people’s awareness regarding public health in general and the fight against COVID-19 in particular. Therefore, two main attitudes were derived from PCA: (a) social marketing contributed significantly into public awareness regarding public health issues and COVID-19 fight, and (b) some social marketing techniques had a negative impact on the use of vaccines as a protection measure toward COVID-19. Cluster analysis was performed to classify those citizens into groups according to their attitudes toward the use of social marketing in public health and COVID-19 issues. It identified three groups of citizens: (a) those who believe that social marketing has a significant impact on people’s awareness regarding public health and protection against COVID-19, (b) those who are uninterested, and (c) those who believe that social marketing contributes to the dissemination of negative information regarding vaccination against COVID19. Nonparametric tests, including the Chi-square and Friedman nonparametric tests were performed to develop the profile of those citizens. Keywords: social marketing, millennials, COVID-1

The aim of the study is to explore cross cultural transfer in a dubbed animated film with Greek as a target language, and examine how the target version of the multimodal text was rendered in relation to a number of pragmatic phenomena demonstrated in the source text. It used exchanges from the transcript of the American animation film Beauty and the Beast (1991, Walt Disney Studios) and the Greek dubbed version of these exchanges. The study asks fifty four Greek-English bilingual respondents with a background in translation, in order for the study to check the validity of the author's view. Results suggest that most of the exchanges were rendered differently in the target text, thus modifying or completely eliding the linguistic effect of a number of pragmatic phenomena

The present paper focuses on studying, recording and presenting the point of view of Accounting and Finance students about their career opportunities and prospects. We considered obvious to make a correct and complete recording, in order to realize how much they are interested in their specialty and determined to follow a career based on their field of studies. Provided they are, they are supposed to be aware of their professional rights, as well as how easy it is for them to be absorbed into the labor market. In our days that the economic crisis affects our country and finding a job is very difficult, students will be supposed to know if they really want to deal in the professional sector and how much the object of their work will offer them a decent life in the society. Data were collected through questionnaires addressed to a sample of students. Apart from a report concerning the profession of accountant, this work provides a short presentation of our institution Easter Macedonia and Thrace Institute of Technology (TEI EMTh) department of Accounting and Finance

LABOUR JOB DIGITALIZATION: MYTHS AND REALITIES

    Get PDF
Nowadays, there has been a wide discussion and also concerns about the fact that automation and digitalization might result in a serious job loss. On the other hand, in many European countries, there is a serious problem of shortage of labour supply. That means, digitalization can be actually a solution to the problems in labour market rather than a social and economic problem. Researchers are sceptical about “job polarisation”, where middle-skill jobs are declining but both low-skill and high-skill jobs are expanding. Digitalization will not only cause mass unemployment, but it will speed up the existing trend of computer-related automation, disrupting labour markets just as technological change has done before, and will require workers to learn new skills more quickly than in the past. This study analyses the digitalization processes in European countries, in order to cover the problem of labour deficit. In order to detect the possible solutions to labour deficit, we use two particular indices, ICT Specialist Skills and DESI, and correlate their values with the corresponding values of employment rates in specific European countries for the last 5 years. The outcomes may support the views for: (a) structural problems of labour market in Europe, (b) the digitalization impact on employment and substitution of jobs, and (c) a cross-country comparison on how digitalization processes are used and help to solve the labour deficit problem in selected European countries

Publisher Copyright: © 2022, The Author(s).To investigate if donor and recipient site morbidity (healing time and cosmesis) could be reduced by a novel, modified split-thickness skin grafting (STSG) technique using a dermal component in the STSG procedure (DG). The STSG technique has been used for 150 years in surgery with limited improvements. Its drawbacks are well known and relate to donor site morbidity and recipient site cosmetic shortcomings (especially mesh patterns, wound contracture, and scarring). The Dermal graft technique (DG) has emerged as an interesting alternative, which reduces donor site morbidity, increases graft yield, and has the potential to avoid the mesh procedure in the STSG procedure due to its elastic properties. A prospective, dual-centre, intra-individual controlled comparison study. Twenty-one patients received both an unmeshed dermis graft and a regular 1:1.5 meshed STSG. Aesthetic and scar assessments were done using The Patient and Observer Scar Assessment Scale (POSAS) and a Cutometer Dual MPA 580 on both donor and recipient sites. These were also examined histologically for remodelling and scar formation. Dermal graft donor sites and the STSG donor sites healed in 8 and 14 days, respectively (p < 0.005). Patient-reported POSAS showed better values for colour for all three measurements, i.e., 3, 6, and 12 months, and the observers rated both vascularity and pigmentation better on these occasions (p < 0.01). At the recipient site, (n = 21) the mesh patterns were avoided as the DG covered the donor site due to its elastic properties and rendered the meshing procedure unnecessary. Scar formation was seen at the dermal donor and recipient sites after 6 months as in the standard scar healing process. The dermis graft technique, besides potentially rendering a larger graft yield, reduced donor site morbidity, as it healed faster than the standard STSG. Due to its elastic properties, the DG procedure eliminated the meshing requirement (when compared to a 1:1.5 meshed STSG). This promising outcome presented for the DG technique needs to be further explored, especially regarding the elasticity of the dermal graft and its ability to reduce mesh patterns. Computer simulation of syringomyelia in dogs

Syringomyelia is a pathological condition in which fluid-filled cavities (syringes) form and expand in the spinal cord. Syringomyelia is often linked with obstruction of the craniocervical junction and a Chiari malformation, which is similar in both humans and animals. Some brachycephalic toy breed dogs such as Cavalier King Charles Spaniels (CKCS) are particularly predisposed. The exact mechanism of the formation of syringomyelia is undetermined and consequently with the lack of clinical explanation, engineers and mathematicians have resorted to computer models to identify possible physical mechanisms that can lead to syringes. We developed a computer model of the spinal cavity of a CKCS suffering from a large syrinx. The model was excited at the cranial end to simulate the movement of the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and the spinal cord due to the shift of blood volume in the cranium related to the cardiac cycle. To simulate the normal condition, the movement was prescribed to the CSF. To simulate the pathological condition, the movement of CSF was blocked

Tumor necrosis factor-α-mediated threonine 435 phosphorylation of p65 nuclear factor-κB subunit in endothelial cells induces vasogenic edema and neutrophil infiltration in the rat piriform cortex following status epilepticus

Abstract

Background

Status epilepticus (SE) induces severe vasogenic edema in the piriform cortex (PC) accompanied by neuronal and astroglial damages. To elucidate the mechanism of SE-induced vasogenic edema, we investigated the roles of tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α in blood-brain barrier (BBB) disruption during vasogenic edema and its related events in rat epilepsy models provoked by pilocarpine-induced SE.

Methods

SE was induced by pilocarpine in rats that were intracerebroventricularly infused with saline-, and soluble TNF p55 receptor (sTNFp55R) prior to SE induction. Thereafter, we performed Fluoro-Jade B staining and immunohistochemical studies for TNF-α and NF-κB subunits.

Results

Following SE, most activated microglia showed strong TNF-α immunoreactivity. In addition, TNF p75 receptor expression was detected in endothelial cells as well as astrocytes. In addition, only p65-Thr435 phosphorylation was increased in endothelial cells accompanied by SMI-71 expression (an endothelial barrier antigen). Neutralization of TNF-α by soluble TNF p55 receptor (sTNFp55R) infusion attenuated SE-induced vasogenic edema and neuronal damages via inhibition of p65-Thr435 phosphorylation in endothelial cells. Furthermore, sTNFp55R infusion reduced SE-induced neutrophil infiltration in the PC.

Conclusion

These findings suggest that impairments of endothelial cell functions via TNF-α-mediated p65-Thr 485 NF-κB phosphorylation may be involved in SE-induced vasogenic edema. Subsequently, vasogenic edema results in extensive neutrophil infiltration and neuronal-astroglial loss.</p
