It is necessary to consider the fact that markets are constantly changing, and with that
comes the change of the consumer in general. This current consumer is more rigid and
meticulous with their decisions and opinions, forcing companies to follow this growth
and evolve side by side with them.
Throughout all the changes that have been presented over time, companies feel the
need to stand out from each other and stand out in the eyes of the public. This is so that
they can see a growth in the number of followers on their social media, accompanied by
bigger interaction with them and, eventually, a better brand awareness and more sales.
Currently, each consumer's purchase decision depends not only on the product itself,
but also on the opinions and recommendations of family, friends, or just other users
present on social media. In addition, digital marketing and the way in which companies
move strategically on social media, through interaction, visual content and written
content - copywriting -, allow companies to monitor their audiences and consumers
more closely, ensuring a much more personal, informal and personalized customer
service and support.
Considering the internship in copywriting, at Brandtellers Studio, in Aveiro, which
carried out for three months, the final goal lies with the position of the intern at the
welcoming entity, which is to understand the impact that copywriting has on the
companies’ success and demonstrate its influence and importance on social media
Applying anomaly detection models in wastewater management: a case study of nitrates concentration in the effluent
With an increase in the diversity of data that companies in our society produce today, extracting insights from them manually has become an arduous task. One of the processes of extracting knowledge from the data is the application of anomaly detection models, which allows for finding unusual patterns in a given dataset. The application of these models in the context of Wastewater Treatment Plants (WWTPs) can improve water quality monitoring in these facilities, alerting decision-makers to act more quickly and effectively on anomalous events. Hence, this study aims to conceive and evaluate several candidate models based on Isolations Forest and Long Short-Term Memory-Autoencoders (LSTM-AE) to detect anomalies in the WWTP effluent, namely in the concentration of nitrates. Considering the obtained results, the best candidate was the LSTM-AE-based model, which had the best performance with an F1-Score of 97% and an AUC-ROC of 98%.This work is financed by National Funds through the Portuguese funding agency, FCT -

Doutoramento em FísicaThin film solar cells have in recent years gained market quota against
traditional silicon photovoltaic panels. These developments were in a large part
due to CdTe solar panels on whose development started earlier than their
competitors. Panels based on Cu(In,Ga)Se2 (CIGS), despite being more
efficient in a laboratory and industrial scale than the CdTe ones, still need a
growth technology cheaper and easier to apply in industry. Although usually
presented as a good candidate to make cheap panels, CIGS uses rare and
expensive materials as In and Ga. The price evolution of these materials might
jeopardize CIGS future.
This thesis presents three different studies. The first is the study of different
processes for the incorporation of Ga in a hybrid CIGS growth system. This
system is based on sputtering and thermal evaporation. This technology is, in
principle, easier to be applied in the industry and solar cells with efficiencies
around to 7% were fully made in Aveiro.
In the second part of this thesis, a new material to replace CIGS in thin film
solar cells is studied. The growth conditions and fundamental properties of
Cu2ZnSnSe4 (CZTSe) were studied in depth. Suitable conditions of
temperature and pressure for the growth of this material are reported. Its band
gap energy was estimated at 1.05 eV and the Raman scattering peaks were
identified. Solar cells made with this material showed efficiencies lower than
0.1%.
Finally, preliminary work regarding the incorporation of selenium in Cu2ZnSnS4
(CZTS) thin films was carried out. The structural and morphological properties
of thin films of Cu2ZnSn(S,Se)4 have been studied and the results show that the
incorporation of selenium is higher in films with precursors rather with already
formed Cu2SnS3 or Cu2ZnSnS4 thin films. A solar cell with 0.9 % of efficiency
was prepared.
mostraram eficiências baixas, inferiores a 0.1%
Optimization of Whey Protein-Based Films Incorporating Foeniculum vulgare Mill: Essential Oil
Petroleum-based plastics used in food packaging are not biodegradable. They accumulate in the environment in large amounts, causing a decrease in soil fertility, jeopardizing marine habitats, and causing serious problems to human health. Whey protein has been studied for applications in food packaging, either because of its abundant availability or because it confers transparency, flexibility, and good barrier properties to packaging materials. Taking advantage of whey protein to produce new food packaging materials is a clear example of the so-called circular economy. The present work focuses on optimizing the formulation of whey protein concentrate-based films to enhance their general mechanical properties applying the Box–Behnken experimental design. Foeniculum vulgare Mill. (fennel) essential oil (EO) was incorporated into the optimized films, which were then further characterized. The incorporation of fennel EO in the films leads to a significant increase (p 90%). The results of the bioactive activities of the optimized films showed their ability to be applied as active materials for food packaging to improve the shelf-life of food products and also to prevent foodborne diseases associated with the growth of pathogenic microorganisms.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
In-depth inhomogeneities in CIGS solar cells: identifying regions for performance limitations by PIXE and EBS
When considering materials to be used as active layers in solar cells, an important required parameter is the proper knowledge of their elemental composition. It should be heavily controlled during growth in order to obtain the desired bandgap and to decrease recombination defects and then increase the solar cell electrical performance. Ion beam analytical techniques and, in particular particle-induced X-ray emission (PIXE) and elastic backscattering spectrometry (EBS), are quite suitable to determine the thickness and composition of such active layers. Furthermore, if these techniques are performed using a nuclear microprobe, lateral and in-depth inhomogeneities can be clearly observed from 2D maps. In many cases, composition variations can be detected from the classical 2D maps obtained from the PIXE spectra. In this work, it is shown how the in-depth variations can also be studied when considering 2D maps reconstructed from the EBS spectra. Such variations are derived from processing conditions and can be related to: i) composition, ii) thickness, iii) roughness, iv) other non-trivial issues. Examples obtained on Cu(In,Ga)Se2 based cells are presented and discussed. Furthermore, the combination of ion beam analytical techniques such as PIXE and EBS is shown to be a competitive and alternative method to those more used and established techniques such as X-ray fluorescence for checking the average composition of the solar cells active layers or SIMS for the determination of elemental depth profile.publishe
Using deep learning models to predict the electrical conductivity of the influent in a wastewater treatment plant
Nowadays, human population face increasing water pollution problems, so treating and managing this resource is crucial. Wastewater Treatment Plants (WWTPs) provide essential services for human life since they treat wastewater and monitor its parameters to preserve water quality standards. One of these parameters is electrical conductivity, essential in quantifying water salinity levels. Therefore, this paper aims to forecast the influent conductivity in a WWTP for the next two timesteps. Hence, several experiments were conducted, considering the use of Transformers and Long Short-Term Memory (LSTMs) candidate models that were developed, tuned, and evaluated, utilising a recursive multi-step forecasting approach. The best candidate model was based on a Transformer architecture with encoding and obtained a RMSE of 155.2 μ S/cm.This work is financed by National Funds through the Portuguese funding agency, FCT - Funda¸c˜ao para a Ciˆencia e a Tecnologia within project 2022.06822.PTDC.
