Brane world corrections to scalar vacuum force in RSII-p

Vacuum force is an interesting low energy test for brane worlds due to its dependence on field's modes and its role in submillimeter gravity experiments. In this work we generalize a previous model example: the scalar field vacuum force between two parallel plates lying in the brane of a Randall-Sundrum scenario extended by pp compact dimensions (RSII-pp). Upon use of Green's function technique, for the massless scalar field, the 4D force is obtained from a zero mode while corrections turn out attractive and depend on the separation between plates as l(6+p)l^{-(6+p)}. For the massive scalar field a quasilocalized mode yields the 4D force with attractive corrections behaving like l(10+p)l^{-(10+p)}. Corrections are negligible w.r.t. 4D force for AdS(5+p)AdS_{(5+p)} radius less than 106\sim 10^{-6}m. Although the p=0p=0 case is not physically viable due to the different behavior in regard to localization for the massless scalar and electromagnetic fields it yields an useful comparison between the dimensional regularization and Green's function techniques as we describe in the discussion.Comment: 14 pages, v2: discussion clarified, reference adde

Callose deposition and symplastic connectivity are regulated prior to lateral root emergence.

Root growth is critical for the effective exploitation of the rhizosphere and productive plant growth. Our recent work(1) showed that root architecture was dependent upon the degree of symplastic connectivity between neighboring cells during the specification of lateral root primordia and was affected by genes regulating callose deposition at plasmodesmata (PD). Here we provide additional evidence that both symplastic connectivity and callose are also important during the later phase of lateral root development: emergence. Callose immunolocalization assays indicated that transient symplastic isolation of the primordium occur immediately prior to emergence through the overlaying tissues to produce the mature lateral root.(1) Here we could corroborate these results by analyzing the mobility of a symplastic tracer and the expression of PD genes in lateral roots and in response to auxins. Moreover, we show that altering callose deposition affects the number of emerged lateral roots suggesting that PD regulation is important for emergence

Geodesics of Hayward black hole surrounded by quintessence

Basing on the ideas used by Kiselev, we study the Hayward black hole surrounded by quintessence. By setting for the quintessence state parameter at the special case of ω=23\omega=-\frac{2}{3}, using the metric of the black hole surrounded by quintessence and the definition of the effective potential, we analyzed in detail the null geodesics for different energies. We also analyzed the horizons of the Hayward black hole surrounded by quintessence as well as the shadow of the black hole

Recycled PP for 3D Printing: Material and Processing Optimization through Design of Experiment

In this work, blends that were based on first use PP added with talc (PPt) and recycled polypropylene (r-PP) were designed and formulated, aiming at producing filaments that are suitable for 3D printing fused filament fabrication (FFF) processes. A preliminary characterization of PPt/r-PP blends at different weight ratios allowed selecting two systems showing adequate rheological behavior for FFF. The selected blends were melt compounded in a twin-screw extruder, optimizing the processing conditions through a design of experiments approach, involving the use of Taguchi's method. The materials that were prepared with the optimized processing conditions, hence showing the best performance in terms of rheological behavior and thermal characteristics, were then selected for the production of the filament and for the subsequent FFF processing. Finally, the morphology of the filament and the mechanical properties of 3D-printed samples were assessed, demonstrating the achievement of satisfactory results in terms of performances. In general, the obtained results clearly demonstrated that a proper optimization of both material and processing conditions offers the possibility of using recycled PP-based formulations for additive manufacturing processes, hence allowing a remarkable valorization of a low added-value material through its utilization for an innovative and sustainable manufacturing approach

SUMMARYAcording to the “Practice Guidelines for management of a difficult airway”, and several algorithnes, an awake intubation is considered the first method to secure a suspected difficult airway. During last years the awake intubation was performed by flexible fiberoptic laringoscopy or with a rigid stylet. Within the last decade, many new devices have been developed to assist anesthesiologist with both routine and difficult airway management, one of wich is the Bonfils Retromolar Intubacion Fiberscope. It is a semi-rigid optical stylet 40 cm long of 5,0 external diameter and a tip curvature of 40 degrees; the adult stylet can accommodate a 6,5 mm endotracheal tube and sliding it in the superior airway, it is possible to entubate the glottis under direct vision. We present seven case report with difficult airway, managed with dexmedotomidine using the Bonfils retromolar fiberscope without topical anesthetic

Some of the more common legumes and grasses collected at the Magdalena River Valley are listed. This paper is based on the experiment 'Poisonous plants from the Magdalena River Valley" that was held during two years in 79 farms located in 12 different provinces. The Magdalena River Valley belongs to the warm tropic and the maximum level is 800 mosl. A discussion is done pointed the importance of the use of nonconventional forages feeding cattle, since those plants are considered to be an appropiate source of protein, energy and minerals during the dry period of the year when the pastures lack quality. Some of these species are mentioned in this paper and they are related with bromatologic studies in different areas.Pastos y forraje
