XXX years of education of physical education teachers in Łódź – a calendar of achievements

The article presents the issues of education of physical education specialists in Łódź. It is an attempt to systematize the achievements in the field of education of physical education teachers, trainers and sports coaches in the academic environment of Łódź. It contains the most important information relating to the origin of access to education at this department, important moments, facts, events decisive for the existence and further education of specialists of physical culture in Łódź. It presents the profiles of the creators of this initiative and important figures in its history. A crucial part of the study are the lists of graduates (Physical and Health Education and Physical Culture and Health), graduating in successive years at the Faculty of Educational Sciences of the University of Łódź

Prezentowana publikacja dotyczy wybranych zagadnień związanych z kulturą fizyczną i zdrowotną współczesnego człowieka. Autorzy – specjaliści z zakresu pedagogiki, nauk medycznych i nauk o kulturze fizycznej – podejmują m.in. problematykę wartości kultury fizycznej w procesie kształcenia i wychowania, współczesnych czynników promocji zdrowia i edukacji zdrowotnej, zdrowotnych uwarunkowań aktywności ruchowej czy społecznych kontekstów idei olimpijskiej. The analysis aimed to identify possible prospects of viewing sport as a social phenomenon. Miejsce gimnastyki we współczesnym szkolnym wychowaniu fizycznym

Wychowanie fizyczne jest formą uczestnictwa dzieci i młodzieży w kulturze fizycznej i stanowi jej szczególną część. Obok sportu i rekreacji fizycznej, wychowanie fizyczne ma na celu przygotowywać młode pokolenie do uczestnictwa w kulturze fizycznej. Przygotowanie to jest jednak różnie rozumiane. Pierwotnie zajęcia ruchowe w szkole miały na celu gimnastykę ciała w intencji wzmocnienia zdrowia ćwiczącej młodzieży, by w ten sposób przygotować ją do aktywnego życia. Obecnie zgodnie z humanistyczną koncepcją wychowania fizycznego ma ono na celu kształtować osobowość wychowanka, jego postawy i przekonania wobec kultury fizycznej. Zmiana ta przynosi znaczące konsekwencje dla efektów i jakości zajęć fizycznych. W artykule podjęto dyskusję nad jakością współczesnego wychowania fizycznego w kontekście dokonanej zmiany pedagogizującej jego cele, a w ślad za tym treści

Structural studies and selected physical investigations of LiCoO2 obtained by combustion synthesis

Nanocrystalline powders of LiCoO2 were synthesized using a modified solution combustion method, and the effects of the annealing temperature (450-900 degrees C) on structure and composition were investigated using various methods, including XRD, SEM, EPR, and electrical studies. It was found that, as the process temperature increases, the value of the specific surface area decreases, and, hence, the size of the crystallites increases. XRD analysis showed that phase-pure LiCoO2 material was maintained without ad-ditional phases. EPR studies revealed the presence of two Ni3+ complexes resulting from Ni impurities. The electrical properties of the studied LiCoO2 samples were investigated by using impedance spectroscopy. Comparison of the effect of annealing tempera-ture on electrical conductivity shows a very interesting behavior. As the annealing temperature increases, the DC conductivity value increases, reaching a maximum at a temperature of 500 degrees C. However, further increase in the annealing temperature causes a steady decrease in the DC conductivity.Web of Science131482147

Over 200,000 kilometers of free-flowing river habitat in Europe is altered due to impoundments

European rivers are disconnected by more than one million man-made barriers that physically limit aquatic species migration and contribute to modification of freshwater habitats. Here, a Conceptual Habitat Alteration Model for Ponding is developed to aid in evaluating the effects of impoundments on fish habitats. Fish communities present in rivers with low human impact and their broad environmental settings enable classification of European rivers into 15 macrohabitat types. These classifications, together with the estimated fish sensitivity to alteration of their habitat are used for assessing the impacts of six main barrier types (dams, weirs, sluices, culverts, fords, and ramps). Our results indicate that over 200,000 km or 10% of previously free-flowing river habitat has been altered due to impoundments. Although they appear less frequently, dams, weirs and sluices cause much more habitat alteration than the other types. Their impact is regionally diverse, which is a function of barrier height, type and density, as well as biogeographical location. This work allows us to foresee what potential environmental gain or loss can be expected with planned barrier management actions in rivers, and to prioritize management actions
