Gene-environment interactions due to quantile-specific heritability of triglyceride and VLDL concentrations.
"Quantile-dependent expressivity" is a dependence of genetic effects on whether the phenotype (e.g., triglycerides) is high or low relative to its distribution in the population. Quantile-specific offspring-parent regression slopes (βOP) were estimated by quantile regression for 6227 offspring-parent pairs. Quantile-specific heritability (h2), estimated by 2βOP/(1 + rspouse), decreased 0.0047 ± 0.0007 (P = 2.9 × 10-14) for each one-percent decrement in fasting triglyceride concentrations, i.e., h2 ± SE were: 0.428 ± 0.059, 0.230 ± 0.030, 0.111 ± 0.015, 0.050 ± 0.016, and 0.033 ± 0.010 at the 90th, 75th, 50th, 25th, and 10th percentiles of the triglyceride distribution, respectively. Consistent with quantile-dependent expressivity, 11 drug studies report smaller genotype differences at lower (post-treatment) than higher (pre-treatment) triglyceride concentrations. This meant genotype-specific triglyceride changes could not move in parallel when triglycerides were decreased pharmacologically, so that subtracting pre-treatment from post-treatment triglyceride levels necessarily created a greater triglyceride decrease for the genotype with a higher pre-treatment value (purported precision-medicine genetic markers). In addition, sixty-five purported gene-environment interactions were found to be potentially attributable to triglyceride's quantile-dependent expressivity, including gene-adiposity (APOA5, APOB, APOE, GCKR, IRS-1, LPL, MTHFR, PCSK9, PNPLA3, PPARγ2), gene-exercise (APOA1, APOA2, LPL), gene-diet (APOA5, APOE, INSIG2, LPL, MYB, NXPH1, PER2, TNFA), gene-alcohol (ALDH2, APOA5, APOC3, CETP, LPL), gene-smoking (APOC3, CYBA, LPL, USF1), gene-pregnancy (LPL), and gene-insulin resistance interactions (APOE, LPL)
Pyrolysis of brominated feedstock plastic in a fluidised bed reactor
Fire retarded high impact polystyrene has been pyrolysed using a fluidised bed reactor with a sand bed. The yield and composition of the products have been investigated in relation to fluidised bed temperature. The bromine distribution between the products and a detailed analysis of the oils using GC-FID/ECD, GC-MS, FT-ir, and size exclusion chromatography has been carried out. It was found that the majority of the bromine transfers to the pyrolysis oil and the antimony was detected in both the oil and the char. Oil made up over 89.9% of the pyrolysis products. Over 30% of the oil consisted of benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, styrene and cumene. The pyrolysis gases were mainly hydrocarbons in the C1-C4 range but some HBr and Br2 was detected
Hydrogen from waste plastics by way of pyrolysis-gasification
A screw kiln continuous reaction system was used to investigate the production of hydrogen from a representative waste plastic (polypropylene). The reactor system consisted of two stages, with pyrolysis of the plastic in the firststage screw kiln, followed by catalytic gasification of the product pyrolysis gases in the second stage. Two catalysts (a laboratory prepared Ni-Mg-Al catalyst and a commercial nickel catalyst) were used and the process conditions of gasification temperature and water injection rate were investigated. The results showed that the introduction of catalyst into the gasification stage dramatically increased the hydrogen production. The gas and hydrogen production and amount of reacted water per hour were increased with the increase of the gasification temperature from 600 to 900°C for both the Ni-Mg-Al and the commercial nickel catalysts. The rate of water injection was also shown to be critical for hydrogen production. The maximum hydrogen produced was 52% of the maximum theoretical hydrogen available in the polypropylene, representing 22̇38 g of hydrogen per 100 g polypropylene, obtained with the Ni-Mg- Al catalyst, at 800°C gasification temperature and with 28̇46 g/h water injection rate

Justification Patterns for OWL DL Ontologies
For debugging OWL-DL ontologies, natural language explanations of inconsistencies and undesirable entailments are of great help. From such explanations, ontology developers can learn why an ontology gives rise to specific entailments. Unfortunately, commonly used tableaux-based reasoning services do not provide a basis for such explanations, since they rely on a refutation proof strategy and normalising transformations that are difficult for human ontology editors to understand. For this reason, we investigate the use of automatically generated justifications for entailments (i.e., minimal sets of axioms from the ontology that cause entailments to hold). We show that such justifications fall into a manageable number of patterns, which can be used as a basis for generating natural language explanations by associating each justification pattern with a rhetorical pattern in natural language
Fast pyrolysis of halogenated plastics recovered from waste computers
The disposal of waste computers is an issue that is gaining increasing interest around the world. In this paper, results from the fast pyrolysis in a fluidized bed reactor of three different waste computer monitor casings composed of mainly acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (ABS) copolymer and two different waste computer body casings composed of mostly poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) type polymers are presented. Preliminary characterization of the waste plastics was investigated using coupled thermogravimetric analysis-Fourier transform infrared spectrometry (TGA-FT-IR). The results showed that the plastics decomposed in two stages. For the ABS-containing monitor casings, aromatic and aliphatic material were released in the first and second stages. The PVC-containing computer body casing samples showed a first-stage evolution of HCl and a second stage evolution of aromatic and aliphatic material and further HCl. In addition, each of the five plastics was fast-pyrolyzed in a laboratory-scale fluidized bed reactor at 500 °C. The fluidized bed pyrolysis led to the conversion of most of the plastics to pyrolysis oil, although the two PVC computer body cases produced large quantities of HCl. The pyrolysis oils were characterized by GC-MS and it was found that they were chemically very heterogeneous and contained a wide range of aliphatic, aromatic, halogenated, oxygenated, and nitrogenated compounds
SWAS and Arecibo observations of H2O and OH in a diffuse cloud along the line-of-sight to W51
Observations of W51 with the Submillimeter Wave Astronomy Satellite (SWAS)
have yielded the first detection of water vapor in a diffuse molecular cloud.
The water vapor lies in a foreground cloud that gives rise to an absorption
feature at an LSR velocity of 6 km/s. The inferred H2O column density is
2.5E+13 cm-2. Observations with the Arecibo radio telescope of hydroxyl
molecules at ten positions in W51 imply an OH column density of 8E+13 cm-2 in
the same diffuse cloud. The observed H2O/OH ratio of ~ 0.3 is significantly
larger than an upper limit derived previously from ultraviolet observations of
the similar diffuse molecular cloud lying in front of HD 154368. The observed
variation in H2O/OH likely points to the presence in one or both of these
clouds of a warm (T > 400) gas component in which neutral-neutral reactions are

A Delphi survey to determine how educational interventions for evidence-based practice should be reported:Stage 2 of the development of a reporting guideline
BACKGROUND: Undertaking a Delphi exercise is recommended during the second stage in the development process for a reporting guideline. To continue the development for the Guideline for Reporting Evidence-based practice Educational interventions and Teaching (GREET) a Delphi survey was undertaken to determine the consensus opinion of researchers, journal editors and educators in evidence-based practice (EBP) regarding the information items that should be reported when describing an educational intervention for EBP. METHODS: A four round online Delphi survey was conducted from October 2012 to March 2013. The Delphi panel comprised international researchers, educators and journal editors in EBP. Commencing with an open-ended question, participants were invited to volunteer information considered important when reporting educational interventions for EBP. Over three subsequent rounds participants were invited to rate the importance of each of the Delphi items using an 11 point Likert rating scale (low 0 to 4, moderate 5 to 6, high 7 to 8 and very high >8). Consensus agreement was set a priori as at least 80 per cent participant agreement. Consensus agreement was initially calculated within the four categories of importance (low to very high), prior to these four categories being merged into two (<7 and ≥7). Descriptive statistics for each item were computed including the mean Likert scores, standard deviation (SD), range and median participant scores. Mean absolute deviation from the median (MAD-M) was also calculated as a measure of participant disagreement. RESULTS: Thirty-six experts agreed to participate and 27 (79%) participants completed all four rounds. A total of 76 information items were generated across the four survey rounds. Thirty-nine items (51%) were specific to describing the intervention (as opposed to other elements of study design) and consensus agreement was achieved for two of these items (5%). When the four rating categories were merged into two (<7 and ≥7), 18 intervention items achieved consensus agreement. CONCLUSION: This Delphi survey has identified 39 items for describing an educational intervention for EBP. These Delphi intervention items will provide the groundwork for the subsequent consensus discussion to determine the final inclusion of items in the GREET, the first reporting guideline for educational interventions in EBP
A systematic review of how studies describe educational interventions for evidence-based practice:Stage 1 of the development of a reporting guideline
Abstract
Background
The aim of this systematic review was to identify which information is included when reporting educational interventions used to facilitate foundational skills and knowledge of evidence-based practice (EBP) training for health professionals. This systematic review comprised the first stage in the three stage development process for a reporting guideline for educational interventions for EBP.
Methods
The review question was ‘What information has been reported when describing educational interventions targeting foundational evidence-based practice knowledge and skills?’
MEDLINE, Academic Search Premier, ERIC, CINAHL, Scopus, Embase, Informit health, Cochrane Library and Web of Science databases were searched from inception until October - December 2011. Randomised and non-randomised controlled trials reporting original data on educational interventions specific to developing foundational knowledge and skills of evidence-based practice were included.
Studies were not appraised for methodological bias, however, reporting frequency and item commonality were compared between a random selection of studies included in the systematic review and a random selection of studies excluded as they were not controlled trials. Twenty-five data items were extracted by two independent reviewers (consistency > 90%).
Results
Sixty-one studies met the inclusion criteria (n = 29 randomised, n = 32 non-randomised). The most consistently reported items were the learner’s stage of training, professional discipline and the evaluation methods used (100%). The least consistently reported items were the instructor(s) previous teaching experience (n = 8, 13%), and student effort outside face to face contact (n = 1, 2%).
Conclusion
This systematic review demonstrates inconsistencies in describing educational interventions for EBP in randomised and non-randomised trials. To enable educational interventions to be replicable and comparable, improvements in the reporting for educational interventions for EBP are required. In the absence of a specific reporting guideline, there are a range of items which are reported with variable frequency. Identifying the important items for describing educational interventions for facilitating foundational knowledge and skills in EBP remains to be determined. The findings of this systematic review will be used to inform the next stage in the development of a reporting guideline for educational interventions for EBP
Pyrolysis-Catalytic-Dry Reforming of Waste Plastics and Mixed Waste Plastics for Syngas Production
The CO2 dry reforming of various types of waste plastics (LDPE, HDPE, PS, PET, and PP) and a simulated mixture of the different waste plastics was investigated over a Ni–Co–Al catalyst using a two-stage reactor. The first stage pyrolyzed the plastics, and the second stage involved catalytic-dry reforming of the product pyrolysis gases with CO2. The introduction of CO2 without a catalyst markedly increased the dry reforming reaction and significantly improved the production of H2/CO synthesis gas (syngas). The introduction of the Ni–Co–Al catalyst further significantly improved the production of syngas. LDPE produced the highest yield of syngas at 154.7 mmolsyngas g–1plastic from the pyrolysis-catalytic-dry reforming process. The order of syngas production for the different plastics was LDPE < HDPE < PP < PS < PET. The syngas yield from the processing of the simulated waste plastic mixture was 148.6 7 mmolsyngas g–1plastic which reflected the high content of the linear polyalkene plastics (LDPE, HDPE, PP) in the simulated waste plastic mixture
