    Get PDF
Aim: To carry out a systematic review of the available evidence from health decision makers, patients, and therapists regarding the ability of Baclofen use in decreasing alcohol withdrawal symptoms to patients in inpatient settings. acute care setting. Methodology: Systematic searches were carried out on the following databases: Academic Search Premier, CINAHL, Cochrane and PsycINFO via EBSCO Host, Embase, MEDLINE via PubMed, and Web of Science. The last search date was May 28, 2019. The search was limited to the last 10 years, i.e., from January 1st, 2010. Findings: Four studies were included in the final review. The total population was 258 patients. The studies did not report any statistically significant difference between Baclofen to placebo during the end of the treatment when it comes to decreasing alcohol withdrawal symptoms and reduction of alcohol intake. There was also not a considerable difference between baclofen and standard care dropout, adverse events, and anxiety. Baclofen also increased the frequency of vertigo, dry mouth, and sleepiness. Conclusions: It was uncertain whether Baclofen improves withdrawal signs and symptoms and reduces side effects in comparison to placebo or other medicines as the studies reviewed did not point to any statistical significance. It is recommended that future reviews assume the meta-analysis approach that can help in measuring the level of heterogeneity in such studies to effectively examine the extent to which baclofen can be effective

Cluster Hire in Social Networks Using Modified Weighted Structural Clustering Algorithm for Networks (MWSCAN)

The concept of effective collaboration within a group is immensely used in organizations as a viable means for improving team performance. Any organization or prominent institute, who works with multiple projects needs to hire a group of experts who can complete a set of projects. When hiring a group of experts, numerous considerations must be taken into account. In the Cluster Hire problem, we are given a set of experts, each having a set of skills. Also, we are given a set of projects, each requiring a set of skills. Upon completion of each project, a profit is generated for an organization. Each expert demands a monetary cost (i.e., salary) to provide his/her expertise in projects. The Cluster Hire problem can be solved by hiring a group of experts for a set of projects within the constraints of a budget for hiring and a working capacity of each expert. An extension to this problem is assuming there exists a social network amongst the experts, which contains their past collaboration information. If two experts have collaborated in the past, then they are preferred to be on the same team in the future. The goal of our research is to find a collaborative group of experts who can work effectively together to complete a set of projects. Currently, the solution to the Cluster Hire problem in social networks is achieved using greedy heuristic algorithms and Integer Linear Programming (ILP) approach. Greedy algorithms often generate fast results, but they make locally optimal choices at each step and do not produce global optimal results. The drawbacks of the ILP approach are that it requires a considerable amount of memory for the creation of variables and constraints and also has a very high processing time for large networks. Whereas, Weighted Structural Clustering Algorithm for Networks (WSCAN) has been proved to produce faster results for Team Formation Problem (i.e., hiring a team of experts for a single project), which is a special case of Cluster Hire problem. We are proposing to solve the Cluster Hire problem in social networks using Modified Weighted Structural Clustering Algorithm for Networks (MWSCAN). We run our experiments on a large dataset of 50K experts. ILP is not capable of working with such large networks. Therefore, we will be comparing our results with the greedy heuristic solution. Our findings indicate that the MWSCAN algorithm generates more efficient results in terms of the number of projects completed and profit produced for the given budget compared to the greedy heuristic algorithm to solve the Cluster Hire problem in social networks

Los patrones culturales alimentarios con base en el Qaway Quk´uya´

    Get PDF

Comparison of Three Assembly Strategies for a Heterozygous Seedless Grapevine Genome Assembly

    Get PDF
BackgroundDe novo heterozygous assembly is an ongoing challenge requiring improved assembly approaches. In this study, three strategies were used to develop de novo Vitis vinifera ‘Sultanina’ genome assemblies for comparison with the inbred V. vinifera (PN40024 12X.v2) reference genome and a published Sultanina ALLPATHS-LG assembly (AP). The strategies were: 1) a default PLATANUS assembly (PLAT_d) for direct comparison with AP assembly, 2) an iterative merging strategy using METASSEMBLER to combine PLAT_d and AP assemblies (MERGE) and 3) PLATANUS parameter modifications plus GapCloser (PLAT*_GC).ResultsThe three new assemblies were greater in size than the AP assembly. PLAT*_GC had the greatest number of scaffolds aligning with a minimum of 95% identity and ≥1000 bp alignment length to V. vinifera (PN40024 12X.v2) reference genome. SNP analysis also identified additional high quality SNPs. A greater number of sequence reads mapped back with zero-mismatch to the PLAT_d, MERGE, and PLAT*_GC (\u3e94%) than was found in the AP assembly (87%) indicating a greater fidelity to the original sequence data in the new assemblies than in AP assembly. A de novo gene prediction conducted using seedless RNA-seq data predicted \u3e 30,000 coding sequences for the three new de novo assemblies, with the greatest number (30,544) in PLAT*_GC and only 26,515 for the AP assembly. Transcription factor analysis indicated good family coverage, but some genes found in the VCOST.v3 annotation were not identified in any of the de novo assemblies, particularly some from the MYB and ERF families.ConclusionsThe PLAT_d and PLAT*_GC had a greater number of synteny blocks with the V. vinifera (PN40024 12X.v2) reference genome than AP or MERGE. PLAT*_GC provided the most contiguous assembly with only 1.2% scaffold N, in contrast to AP (10.7% N), PLAT_d (6.6% N) and Merge (6.4% N). A PLAT*_GC pseudo-chromosome assembly with chromosome alignment to the reference genome V. vinifera, (PN40024 12X.v2) provides new information for use in seedless grape genetic mapping studies. An annotated de novo gene prediction for the PLAT*_GC assembly, aligned with VitisNet pathways provides new seedless grapevine specific transcriptomic resource that has excellent fidelity with the seedless short read sequence data

Korean Labor: The Other Side of the Miracle on the Han River

Exploring the streets of the now infamous Gangnam district of Seoul, the capital city, it is difficult to believe that about sixty years ago the Republic of Korea or South Korean was one of the poorest nations in the world with a majority of its population living as peasants. Hailed as a model of rapid economic development, South Korea ascended to its position as a thriving industrial nation not through the free-market; South Korean development rests on the decisions made by autocratic governments. Through a strong economic intervention and the repression of workers, the government working with local conglomerates, known as Chaebols, brought capitalism to South Korea and in return, capitalism brought about the emergence of a strong labor movement
