Modelling the squeeze flow in a deformed rectangular microchannel
Universidad de Málaga. Campus de Excelencia Internacional Andalucía Tech.Rheinforce cork composites, previously named elsewhere as CorkSTFluidics [1], are sandwiches consis?ng of two microagglomerated cork pads embedding microfluidic
paCerns that are filled with a shear thickening fluid (see Figure 1 (a)), whose mechanical performance under impact loads is determined by the microfluidic paCern and the
rheological proper?es of the fluid [2]. From the experimental results it is impossible to decouple the fluid contribu?on from the solid contribu?on to the force?me response
of the composite. In this work, we have developed a simple model of the fluid-flow dynamics that it is able to predict the fluid contribu?on in the energy dissipa?on of the
Rheinforce cork composites under impact loads. To that end, we model the viscous flow inside a microchannel for a known displacement of the upper lid h(t, x), calcula?ng
as a result the needed force to create that movement
Improvements in Pain, Well-being, Arterial Pressure, and Lower Limb Volume Following Andullation Therapy in Healthy and Unhealthy Humans
Our aim was to test the effects of Andullation therapy on pain threshold, pain perception, feeling of well-being, arterial pressure, and leg volume in healthy and unhealthy patients. We used a multidirectional vibration (frequency range: 5–40 Hz; peak-to-peak amplitude: 2–8 mm; acceleration: 0.4–2 m/s 2 ) in an undulatory way through the surface of the body when the patient was in contact with a mattress (“andullation”). The vibes traveled from the heel to the head in a random fashion while the participants (N = 50) were lying on the mattress. We measured the pain threshold using an algometer; pain perception and well-being through a visual analog scale (VAS); arterial pressure with an electronic sphygmomanometer; and leg volume with Kuhnke’s technique. Measurements were made just before the first andullation session and after the fifth andullation session. Every participant received andullation sessions of 30 min a day for 5 consecutive days. The patients’ pain threshold significantly (P <.001) increased by 34.48% and 25.79% in the lumbar and trapezius zones, respectively, after 5 sessions of therapy. The subjective perception of pain decreased by 52.3% and the feeling of well-being increased by 45.1%. The systolic and diastolic pressures significantly (P <.001) decreased by 6.44 and 4.68 mm Hg on average, respectively. Leg volume significantly decreased (P <.01) by 64.39 mL after the fifth andullation session. Despite not including a control group in our study, the andullation intervention showed an improvement in pain, well-being, arterial pressure, and lower limb volume in the studied population.Fundación para la Investigación de la Universidad de Sevilla FIUSHome Health Products HH
Are We There Yet? A Communications Evaluation Guide
Most foundation and nonprofit communicators can speak at length about the work they do and what it's intended to achieve. But when it comes to describing exactly what their efforts are achieving, few can offer specifics. This guide helps foundation and nonprofit communicators learn whether their communications are effective and what is being achieved -- and determine if any course corrections are necessary.Among the reasons stressed for evaluating communication efforts are these:Evaluation improves the effectiveness of communications.Evaluation can help organizations more effectively engage with intended audiences.Situations change - strategies and tactics may need to change as well.Evaluation ensures wise allocation of resources. The guide points out that evaluation need not be limited to large-scale campaigns or major outreach activities, but should also conducted for efforts to raise awareness of an organization or an issue. And once an evaluation is underway, the guide suggests findings be shared with those who may benefit from what is learned, such as team members, the board, colleagues and peers. The guide includes:Background on why evaluation can contribute to good communications.Four case studies of evaluation in action from the Lumina Foundation for Education, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, the Neimand Collaborative, and the California HealthCare Foundation.A worksheet for creating an evaluation plan
Throughout the Spanish Civil war (1936-1939) photojournalism meets its known as Golden Age, specially because of mythical photographers such as Robert Capa or Gerda Taro. However, it is also owing to the work of spanish photographers whose work was concealed by the dictatorship because of their truly commitment with the republican cause. Their memory, their work, started to be appreciate only after Franco’s death and only once the democracy finally arrived to our country. Thus, we will see face-to-face the new documentary sources of information about foreign photojurnalism versus the spanish big-unknown photographers, they were who inmortalized the main battles and the inocent victims of the war.

Discussions on Photography: From the Role of The Photo Editor and the Icons, to the Digital Era
Through the following paper we will review some
issues that photography has rised in recent years
and they are related to digitization and the possible
manipulation through an increasingly accessible
software, but also we will review the possibility of
immediate graphical information thanks to the
smartphones, possible substitutes of camera;
and of course the role of the citizen photojournalist. In addition, the paper will take a look
into the mechanism by which a picture become an

Formation of the olive grove monoculture in the region of Campiña de Jaén
Just like in so many other inland areas of Andalusia, the olive groves are the main crop cultivated in the region of Campiña de Jaén. Although it might seem that it has existed for centuries, the formation of this monoculture is quite recent. Using the cartography that is available, this process can be rebuilt and, simultaneously, the key factors behind its progress can be determined, which have changed over time. Given the diversity of the selected area under analysis, the space and time patterns detected can be used as a model to understand what has happened on other scales, such as on provincial or regional scales. By analyzing ortophotographs and maps -that enable us to go back to the end of 19th century- and the written documentation, during this study different periods or processes of change that the cultivation has gone through have been identified. The study starts off with the typical contexts of subsistence and the dominance of multifunctional fields, where olive trees were mixed in with cereals or fruit trees; to make productivism more intense (typical in last decades of the 20th century) and then it goes on to the appearance of the first signs of new processes like post- productivism or neo-productivism that followed
The presence of memory in José Manuel Martínez Bellido’s graphic works
The next paper analyzes the role of memory in the work of José Manuel Martínez Bellido.
