    Grapholita molesta (Lepidoptera: Tortricidae) Ă© uma das principais pragas do pessegueiro no Brasil, causando perdas de 3-5% da produção. Dentre os agentes de controle biolĂłgico Trichogramma pretiosum (Hymenoptera: Trichogrammatidae) tem sido encontrado nos pomares de pessegueiros. O objetivo deste trabalho foi estudar a criação de T. pretiosum em ovos de G. molesta e Anagasta kuehniella (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae) e selecionar as linhagens de T. pretiosum com potencial de controle de G. molesta. A seleção de linhagens foi realizada com cinco populaçÔes de T. pretiosum coletadas em pomares de pessegueiro cultivados sob o sistema orgĂąnico de produção. O estudo foi realizado em condiçÔes controladas de temperatura (25 ± 2°C), umidade relativa (70 ± 10%) e fotofase (14h). Ovos de G. molesta sĂŁo hospedeiros adequados ao desenvolvimento de T. pretiosum uma vez que, nas variĂĄveis estudadas nĂșmero de ovos parasitados, porcentagem de parasitismo e razĂŁo sexual, os valores foram equivalentes aos criados em ovos de A. kuehniella . O maior parasitismo de ovos de G. molesta ocorreu com posturas de atĂ© 48h de desenvolvimento embrionĂĄrio. Das linhagens de T. pretiosum coletadas, H08, PO8, PEL e L3M apresentaram melhor desempenho biolĂłgico, sendo, portanto, indicadas para estudos de semi-campo e campo para o controle biolĂłgico da mariposa-oriental

    Social engagement within the facility increased life expectancy in nursing home residents [preprint]

A representative cohort of 382 nursing home residents in Madrid without severe physical and cognitive impairments at baseline was followed up for 10-year all-cause mortality. Standardized cumulative mortality curves for residents with low/null, moderate, and high levels of SE at baseline were estimated using Kaplan-Meier methods and spline-based survival models with inverse probability of exposure weights conditional on baseline sociodemographic characteristics, facility features, comorbidity, and disability. Standardized 5-year mortality risks and median survival times were compared across levels of SE. The baseline prevalences of low/null, moderate, and high SE were 36.0%, 44.2%, and 19.8%, respectively. A total of 268 residents died during 2,305 person-years of follow-up. Compared with residents with low/null SE at baseline, the standardized differences (95% confidence intervals) in 5-year mortality risk were −2.3% (−14.6% to 10.0%) for moderately engaged residents and −18.4% (−33.8% to −2.9%) for highly engaged residents. The median survival time increased by 0.4 (−1.4 to 2.2) and 3.0 (0.8 to 5.2) years, respectively. Residents with high SE within the nursing home had substantially lower mortality risk and longer median survival than residents with similar health determinants but low/null SE. The development of intervention programs, aimed at increasing SE among nursing home residents, could improve their long-term survival with an inherent gain in quality of life.This work was supported by the Institute of Health Carlos III (Grant PI15CIII00037).     Calmness of Linear Constraint Systems under Structured Perturbations with an Application to the Path-Following Scheme

Such structured perturbations provide a unified framework for different parametric models in the literature, as block, directional and/or partial perturbations of both inequalities and equalities. We extend some recent results about calmness of the feasible set mapping and provide an application to the convergence of a certain path-following algorithmic scheme. We underline the fact that our formula for the calmness modulus depends only on the nominal data, which makes it computable in practice.Peer reviewe

    Hidrogenionic potential (pH) of the attractant, trap density and control threshold for Ceratitis capitata (Diptera: tephritidae) on Hamlin oranges in SĂŁo Paulo central region, Brazil

    This study evaluated the effect of initial pH values of 4.5, 6.5 and 8.5 of the attractant (protein bait) MilhocinaÂź and borax (sodium borate) in the feld, on the capture of fruit ïŹ‚ies in McPhail traps, using 1, 2, 4 and 8 traps per hectare, in order to estimate control thresholds in a Hamlin orange grove in the central region of the state of SĂŁo Paulo. The most abundant fruit ïŹ‚y species was Ceratitis capitata, comprising almost 99% of the fruit ïŹ‚ies captured, of which 80% were females. The largest captures of C. capitata were found in traps baited with MilhocinaÂź and borax at pH 8.5. Captures per trap for the four densities were similar, indicating that the population can be estimated with one trap per hectare in areas with high populations. It was found positive relationships between captures of C. capitata and the number of Hamlin oranges damaged, 2 and 3 weeks after capture. It was obtained equations that correlate captures and damage levels which can be used to estimate control thresholds. The average loss caused in Hamlin orange fruits by C. capitata was 2.5 tons per hectare or 7.5% of production.Esta pesquisa teve como objetivos: avaliar o efeito do pH inicial, 4.5; 6.5 e 8.5, do atrativo proteico MilhocinaÂź e bĂłrax (tetraborato de sĂłdio) na captura de moscas-das-frutas em armadilhas McPhail; estudar densidades de armadilhas, 1; 2; 4 e 8 por hectare, para estimar nĂ­veis de controle em laranja cv. Hamlin, na regiĂŁo central de SĂŁo Paulo. A espĂ©cie predominante, com 99% das moscas-das-frutas capturadas, foi Ceratitis capitata, sendo 80% de fĂȘmeas. As maiores capturas de C. capitata ocorreram nas armadilhas com MilhocinaÂź e bĂłrax em pH 8.5. As capturas, nas 4 densidades, foram semelhantes, indicando que a população pode ser estimada com uma armadilha por hectare em ĂĄreas de altas populaçÔes. Houve relaçÔes positivas entre capturas de C. capitata e o nĂșmero de frutos danificados, 2 e 3 semanas apĂłs a captura. Assim, foram obtidas equaçÔes que relacionam a captura e o dano, possibilitando estimar nĂ­veis de controle desse inseto. As perdas mĂ©dias causadas por C. capitata em laranja cv.     Carbon Aerogel Based Thin Electrodes for Zero-Gap all Vanadium Redox Flow Batteries – Quantifying the Factors Leading to Optimum Performance

    Funder: Shell Global Solutions International B.V.Abstract: Direct growth of resorcinol−formaldehyde carbon aerogels (CAGs) on carbon paper electrodes was achieved using a new approach. Materials with variations in density, mesoporosity and microporosity were prepared. Microstructural properties of the resultant thin electrodes are shown to directly influence performance in zero‐gap redox flow battery (RFB). BET analysis shows a total surface area between 643 to 931 m2 g−1. Deposition of only ≈15 wt.% CAG on the carbon electrode leads to a 320‐fold increase in electrochemical surface area. Analysis of the results saw a strong positive correlation of RFB performance with surface area. The best performing electrodes had a good balance between microporous and external surface area, and on the macroscopic scale had sufficiently large pores to allow efficient electrolyte permeation. The poorest performing electrodes which had the highest surface area, also had poor macroscopic porosity leading to large mass transport and solution resistance losses. The best performing electrodes were tested in a zero‐gap setup using polarization curves, showing a 25 % increase in power density at 100 mA cm−2 and a peak power density of 706 mW cm−2 at 1 V using thin electrodes

    Comparison of labour induction with misoprostol and dinoprostone and characterization of uterine response based on electrohysterogram

    [EN] Objective: The objective of this study is to compare the uterine activity response between women administered dinoprostone (prostaglandin E2) and misoprostol (prostaglandin E1) for induction of labour (IOL) by analysing not only the traditional obstetric data but also the parameters extracted from uterine electrohysterogram (EHG). Methods: Two cohorts were defined: misoprostol (25-mg vaginal tablets; 251 women) and dinoprostone cohort (10 mg vaginal inserts; 249 women). All the mothers were induced by a medical indication of a Bishop Score < Âż 6. Results: The misoprostol cohort was associated with a shorter time to achieve active labour (p Âż .017) and vaginal delivery (p Âż .009) and with a higher percentage of vaginal delivery in less than 24 h in mothers with a very unfavourable cervix score (risk ratio (RR): 1.41, IC95% 1.17Âż1.69, p Âż .002). Successful inductions with misoprostol showed EHG parameter values significantly higher than basal state for amplitude and pseudo Montevideo units (PMU) 60Âż after drug administration, while spectral parameters significantly increased after 150Âż. This response was not observed in failed inductions. In the successful dinoprostone group, the duration and number of contractions increased significantly after 120Âż, PMU did so after 180Âż, and no significant differences were found for spectral parameters, possibly due to the slower pharmacokinetics of this drug.     Safety of switching from intravenous to subcutaneous rituximab during first-line treatment of patients with non-Hodgkin lymphoma: the Spanish population of the MabRella study

    Rituximab is a standard treatment for non-Hodgkin diffuse large B-cell (DLBCL) and follicular (FL) lymphomas. A subcutaneous formulation was developed to improve the resource use of intravenous rituximab, with comparable efficacy and safety profiles except for increased administration-related reactions (ARRs). MabRella was a phase IIIb trial to assess the safety of switching from intravenous to subcutaneous administration of rituximab during first-line induction/maintenance for DLBCL or FL, focusing on ARRs. Efficacy, satisfaction and quality of life were also assessed. Patients received subcutaneous rituximab plus standard induction chemotherapy for DLBCL or FL for 4–7 cycles, and/or every 2 months maintenance monotherapy for FL for 6–12 cycles. The study included 140 patients: DLBCL, n = 29; FL, n = 111. Ninety-five percent of patients experienced adverse events, reaching grade ≄3 in 38 6% and were serious in 30 0%. AARs occurred in 48 6%, mostly (84 9%) at the injection site, with only 2 1% of patients reaching grade 3. The end-of-induction complete/unconfirmed complete response rate was 69 6%. After a median follow-up of 33 5 months, median disease-/event-/progression-free and overall survivals were not attained. The Rituximab Administration Satisfaction Questionnaire showed improvements in overall satisfaction and the EuroQoL-5D a good quality-of-life perception at induction/maintenance end. Therefore, switching to subcutaneous rituximab showed no new safety issues and maintained efficacy with improved satisfaction and quality of life

    Effect of supercritical carbon dioxide extraction parameters on the biological activities and metabolites present in extracts from <i>Arthrospira platensis</i>

    Arthrospira platensis was used to obtain functional extracts through supercritical carbon dioxide extraction (SFE-CO2). Pressure (P), temperature (T), co-solvent (CX), static extraction (SX), dispersant (Di) and dynamic extraction (DX) were evaluated as process parameters through a Plackett–Burman design. The maximum extract yield obtained was 7.48 ± 0.15% w/w. The maximum contents of bioactive metabolites in extracts were 0.69 ± 0.09 ”g/g of riboflavin, 5.49 ± 0.10 ”g/g of α-tocopherol, 524.46 ± 0.10 ”g/g of ÎČ-carotene, 1.44 ± 0.10 ”g/g of lutein and 32.11 ± 0.12 mg/g of fatty acids with 39.38% of palmitic acid, 20.63% of linoleic acid and 30.27% of Îł-linolenic acid. A. platensis extracts had an antioxidant activity of 76.47 ± 0.71 ”g GAE/g by Folin–Ciocalteu assay, 0.52 ± 0.02, 0.40 ± 0.01 and 1.47 ± 0.02 ”mol TE/g by DPPH, FRAP and TEAC assays, respectively. These extracts showed antimicrobial activity against Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923, Pseudomonas aeruginosa ATCC 27853, Escherichia coli ATCC 25922 and Candida albicans ATCC 10231. Overall, co-solvent was the most significant factor for all measured effects (p &lt; 0.05).
