Improving the Power Electronics Laboratory teaching/learning process: an interactive web tool

European Higher Education Area; Power Electronics Laboratory; educational methods Resumen: The forthcoming European Higher Education Area implies an important change in the teaching/learning process: it is necessary to get students more involved as well as to promote their independence and active participation. To achieve this objective, the new teaching methodologies aimed at more effective and appropriate learning for professional practice involve the use of audiovisual, computer and multimedia tools on the part of lecturers. Therefore, a web tool, based on a content management system, has been developed for the teaching in Power Electronics Laboratory. Moreover, the use of these multimedia tools makes possible to promote the students independence. SYSTEMATIC OBSERVATION ON COOPERATIVE LEARNING THROUGH VIEWING FILMS

En este trabajo se propone la utilización del Cine como herramienta de entrenamiento mediante la cual se puede mejorar la capacidad de la observación. Nuestro trabajo explica como el visionado de films (secuencias, extras y fragmentos de películas de cine), con su lenguaje propio, tanto verbal como no verbal, contribuye de forma innovadora al desarrollo de la capacidad de la observación sistemática. Esta innovación docente se ha aplicado en estudiantes de Magisterio en el ámbito del Espacio Europeo de Educación Superior (EEES), mediante la metodología del aprendizaje cooperativo y la tutoría en grupo. Mediante el visionado de diferentes films se introduce al estudiante en el lenguaje cinematográfico y en el lenguaje no verbal, lo que le permite desarrollar y practicar la observación de las conductas humanas, ya sea a través el trabajo individual como a través del trabajo cooperativo y apoyado con la práctica de tutorías en grupo. Todo ello a su vez, induce a reflexionar sobre diferentes contenidos del proceso de enseñanza-aprendizaje. Así, una vez adquiridas las destrezas sobre el lenguaje cinematográfico los alumnos son capaces de aplicarlas en otros productos audiovisuales sobre educación, ya sean programas específicos, debates o documentales sobre educación, tanto en radio como en televisión.This paper proposes the use of film as a training tool by which to improve the capacity of observation. Our work explains how the viewing of films (sequences, extras and excerpts from films), with its own language, both verbal and nonverbal, contributes to the development of innovative capacity for systematic observation. This innovation has been applied in teaching student teachers in the field of European Higher Education Area (EHEA), using the methodology of cooperative learning and group tutoring. By viewing different films the teacher introduces students to the cinematic language and the nonverbal language, allowing them to develop and practice the observation of human behavior, either through individual work or through the supported cooperative work and the practice of mentoring groups. This in turn makes us think about different contents of the teaching-learning process. Thus, once acquired skills on the language of film students are able to apply them in other audio-visual education, whether specific programs, debates and documentaries on education, both in radio and television.Administración y Dirección de EmpresasCiencias de la ComunicaciónEducació

Cooperative learning through participatory activities

El Proceso de Bolonia tiene como eje central al alumno y se basa en la adquisición de competencias. Entre las capacidades docentes que se pretende desarrollar en el nuevo marco educativo se encuentra una habilidad necesaria para la gestión de actividades: la capacidad de reproducir destrezas de gestión de aprendizaje. La formulación y planificación de este tipo de actividades participativas nos sitúa de lleno en este nuevo sistema de aprendizaje. Estas actividades requieren del papel del profesor como tutor en la coordinación, organización, preparación y seguimiento del trabajo de los estudiantes. En este trabajo se exponen dos técnicas en las que se desarrollan estrategias de participación que favorecen el aprendizaje cooperativo: la mesa redonda y el debate dirigido. Este tipo de actividades contribuyen al desarrollo de determinadas competencias transversales y específicas como son la capacidad de análisis y síntesis, la capacidad de organización y planificación, la comunicación oral y escrita en lengua nativa, el razonamiento crítico y el trabajo en equipo, entre otras. Con el objetivo de comprobar la percepción de los alumnos sobre las competencias alcanzadas con la metodología de aprendizaje cooperativo, se realizaron entrevistas semiestructuradas a una muestra de participantes en las actividades mencionadas. Los resultados indican que los alumnos son conscientes de su propio aprendizaje, y que valoran de forma muy positiva el uso de metodologías de enseñanza-aprendizaje más participativas que las tradicionales clases magistrales que se imparten en las Universidades.The Bologna Process is central to the student and it is based on skills acquisition. Among the teaching skills that are to be developed in the new educational framework it is a necessary skill for the management of activities: the ability to play learning management skills. The formulation and planning of such participatory activities places us in this new learning system. These activities require the teacher’s role as guardian of the coordination, organization, preparation and monitoring of student work. This paper presents two techniques that develop participation strategies that promote cooperative learning, round table and discussion led. Such activities contribute to the development of certain generic and specific competences as they are: the capacity for analysis and synthesis, capacity for organization and planning, oral and written communication in native language, critical thinking and teamwork, among others. In order to check the students’ perceptions about the competencies achieved with the methodology of cooperative learning, semi-structured interviews were conducted with a sample of participants in these activities. The results indicate that students are aware of their own learning and who value very positively the use of teaching-learning methodologies more participatory than traditional lectures taught in the universities.Administración y Dirección de EmpresasEducació

Reflection is achieved also in the process of teaching and learning, the development of sensitivity for the beauty and the value they attach to work through the audiovisual language. On the effect of assessed returnable documents as active methodology in Power Electronics

The methodological change caused by the implementation of the new degrees provides a clear opportunity to improve educational practices. This paper describes a teaching tool, named returnable document, to increase student work outside the classroom, motivate the students while raising their awareness about the importance and impact of their work. By using returnable documents teachers manage to strengthen the results of homework and the learning process in a flexible, motivating and entertaining way. Resulta de gran importancia visibilizar los productos de proyectos de investigación, tales como artículos de carácter científico, de revisión, de reflexión, así como resultados de estudios de casos, abordados interdisciplinariamente.
