The Dual Divergence: Growth Successes and Collapses in the Developing World since 1980
This paper argues that developing countriesâ growth successes and collapses tend to cluster in specific time periodsâand that only the existence of a global development cycle can explain this. The cycle reflects the external factors that affect all, or large clusters of developing countries, and thus constrain their growth possibilities. Nonetheless, country-specific factorsâparticularly patterns of specializationâplay a significant role in determining growth dynamics. From this perspective, the paper shows a very large difference between the economic growth of developing countries diversifying into higher technology manufacturing exports and those experiencing success in natural resource intensive sectors.economic growth, divergence, external factors, global development cycle, patterns of specialization, technological intensity of exports
The commodity terms of trade and their strategic implications for development
Although the empirical literature is not unanimous about the existence of a continuous long-term deterioration in the terms of trade for commodities (the original and most common formulation of the Prebisch- Singer hypothesis) and, hence, about the possibility of inferring their future behaviour on this basis, there is a consensus as to the sharp drop in the barter terms of trade, especially from the 1920s on. This paper presents a critical review of the theoretical and empirical literature on the subject and the implications for development strategies.Terms of trade, Economic development
THE TERMS OF TRADE FOR COMMODITIES IN THE TWENTIETH CENTURY
This paper looks at the evolution of the terms of trade between commodities and manufactures in the twentieth century. A statistical analysis of the relative price series for 24 commodities and of eight indices reveals a significant deterioration in their barter terms of trade over the course of the twentieth century. This decline was neither continuous, nor was it distributed evenly among individual products, however. The data show that the far-reaching changes that the world economy underwent around 1920 and again around 1980 led to a stepwise deterioration which, over the long term, was reflected in a decline of nearly 1% per year in aggregate real prices for raw materials.Commodity prices, terms of trade
La lĂłgica periodĂstica en sentido epistemolĂłgico
This article supposes a sketch of philosophy of the journalistic information and, in last instance, an advance of Theory of the Truth applied to the informative practice, as it is given, in a royal way, consciously or not, in the activity of the professional journalists. The media information, which might affiliate to a root of the Jewish truth in the sense in which he needs from the confidence (emunah) from the user, gets stuck in the adecuatio; also, certainly, in Popperâs fallibilism, and, beyond the isomorphism of Wittgenstein in the Tractatus, his terms of reference connote and presuppose real reality, not only to the âunspeakable thingâ, but even to the lie. Only the normative, ethical moment, there corrects this dream of the journalistic and false logic his claimed absolute objectivity of procedural character.
Undertaking in Social Work is a requirement to explore the professional possibilities

Comments about the relationship between Science and Faith in the Magisterium of the Church
The text analyzes the relationship between Science and Faith in the Magisterium of the Catholic Church. The analysis is based on the position of the Vatican Councils I and II about the importance of Faith and Reason for man, in his search for truth; simultaneously, the orientations of popes Leo XIII and John Paul II were taken into account, in their Encyclicals Aeterni Patris and Fides et Ratio, respectively; some speeches by Popes Paul VI, Benedict XVI and Francis before the Pontifical Academy of Sciences were also analyzed. The Church has sought - from the First Vatican Council to the present - to bring, harmonize and complement the relationship between Faith and Reason; its interest is not limited to promoting scientific research; it also aspires that knowledge be ordered to the welfare of the human being, and the horizon of faith is recognized in the search for truth.
