    FORMULATION DEVELOPMENT AND EVALUATION OF SUSTAINED RELEASE IBUPROFEN TABLETS WITH ACRYLIC POLYMERS (EUDRAGIT) AND HPMC

    Objective: An attempt was made to develop sustained release matrix tablets of ibuprofen using HPMC (K4M, K15M & K100M) and eudragit (RS 100 & RL 100) as release retardant polymers.Methods: The ibuprofen matrix tablets were prepared by direct compression method using lactose as a diluent. Nineteen formulations of different polymer percentages were formulated, (F1-F19 with 7.5%, 10%, 15%, 20%, 25%, 30% w/w).Results: The formulations were optimized on the basis of acceptable weight variation, thickness, hardness, % friability, % drug content and in vitro drug release. The in vitro release studies were performed using USP type II apparatus using 7.2 pH phosphate buffer as a dissolution medium, showed that optimized formulation F8 consisting of eudragit RL with 20% of the polymer was found to sustain the release of ibuprofen over a period of 12 h. The formulation exhibited highest correlation (R) value in case of Hixson-Crowell model and the release kinetic study proved that the formulation showed erosion process, and shown to follow zero order kinetics.Conclusion: It was concluded that eudragit RL can be used for the preparation of sustained release tablet of ibuprofen.Ă‚

    SURVEILLANCE OF MICROBIAL FLORA FOR INFERTILITY COUPLES IN AN INDIAN TERTIARY CARE TEACHING HOSPITAL

    Objective: Infertility has been known to cause serious social and emotional problems in India. Microorganisms may be a primary cause for thisinfertility. This study was carried out to know the prevalence of microorganisms in the infertility couples of a tertiary caring teaching hospital.Methods: One thousands of couples were screened for the infertility test presented at the outpatient Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology.The suspected infertility couples were tested for microbial contamination in their reproductive sample. Simultaneously, the demographic data of allpatients were documented, and all the data were analyzed with SPSS 20 software.Result: From one thousand couples, 288 couples were found infertility symptoms, whereas 67.71% were primary infertility problems and rest weresecondary. It is due to male factor (27.08%), female factor (50%), and both (4.86%) but 18.05 were unexplained. From vaginal swabs, 186 and semen145 microbial colony were grown. However, Chi-square (χ) showed that there is no significant difference between the growth of microbial colony from semen or vaginal swap as p=0.06. Eight varieties of bacteria (387) and Candida albicans (37) were documented. 2Conclusion: With respect to older ages of the infertile couples, it is more chances to infections. Antibiotic should be prescribed to primary infertilitycouples and infections can be avoided the cross transmission during intercourse.Keywords: Primary infertility, Candida, Semen, Antibiotic, Vaginal swab

    Comparative study of hysteroscopy with ultrasonography and its correlation with histopathology in cases of abnormal uterine bleeding in perimenopausal women

    Aim: To compare the diagnostic efficacy of ultrasonography and hysteroscopy in detecting uterine abnormalities in abnormal uterine bleeding by correlating the results with histopathological examination. Material and Method: This prospective study was conducted among women attending OPD of Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, IMS & SUM Hospital, Bhubaneswar from April 2019 to March 2021. A total of 100 perimenopausal women with abnormal uterine bleeding attending Obstetric and Gynaecology OPD were included in this study. All patients underwent transvaginal scan to note down the endometrial thickness and to rule out uterine and adnexal pathology. All the patients underwent diagnostic hysteroscopy, followed by a biopsy of the endometrium. The endometrium was sent to the pathologist. Findings of these diagnostic modalities then correlated. Results: Out of 100 women, USG detected that 54 patients (54%) had no pathology and 46 patients (46%) had abnormal findings, out of which maximum patients i.e., 29 patients (63.04%) had endometrial hyperplasia. According to Hysteroscopy, 46 patients (46%) had normal hysteroscopic findings while 54 patients (54%) had abnormal findings of which maximum were 18 patients (33.33%) who had endometrial hyperplasia. Histopathology findings revealed that 47 patients (47%) had normal findings and 53 patients (53%) had abnormal findings out of which maximum patients 20(37.7%) had endometrial hyperplasia. In our study of 100 women with AUB, on USG only 1 patient had endometrial malignancy and the same was reported by hysteroscopy and histopathology. Conclusion: In our study hysteroscopy proved to be highly sensitive and specific considering histopathology as gold standard. Ultrasonography has good sensitivity and specificity but less as compared to hysteroscopy

    ABSTRACT Background: Intrauterine fetal death is a very tragic event for the parents and a great challenge to the obstetrician. It contributes to perinatal mortality and detail analysis of it may help to reduce the still birth rate in India. The aims and objectives of the study is to find out the prevalence, socio-demography, maternal risk factor and fetal characteristics of intrauterine fetal demise cases. Methods: This is a retrospective observational study carried out in Institute of Medical Science and SUM Hospital Bhubaneswar from October 2014 to April 2015. Ante partum events leading to fetal demise were recorded, socio-demographic and clinical characters were noted and analysed. Results: There were 2899 deliveries and 90 fetal deaths in this period. The incidence of IUFD was 31.04/1000 live births in our study. Conclusion: Pregnancy induced hypertension, severe anaemia; abruption of placenta, congenital malformation of the fetus is the main cause of fetal demise. All the main causes of fetal death observed here is preventable. Proper preconceptional counselling, antenatal care is mandatory to reduce the still birth rate by 2030

    Probiotic strain Bacillus subtilis CU1 stimulates immune system of elderly during common infectious disease period: a randomized, double-blind placebo-controlled study

    Background: Bacillus probiotics health benefits have been until now quite poorly studied in the elderly population. This study aimed to assess the effects of Bacillus subtilis CU1 consumption on immune stimulation and resistance to common infectious disease (CID) episodes in healthy free-living seniors. Results: One hundred subjects aged 60-74 were included in this randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, parallel-arms study. Subjects consumed either the placebo or the probiotic (2.10(9) B. subtilis CU1 spores daily) by short periodical courses of 10 days intermittently, alternating 18-day course of break. This scheme was repeated 4 times during the study. Symptoms of gastrointestinal and upper/lower respiratory tract infections were recorded daily by the subjects throughout the study (4 months). Blood, saliva and stool samples were collected in a predefined subset of the first forty-four subjects enrolled in the study. B. subtilis CU1 supplementation did not statistically significantly decrease the mean number of days of reported CID symptoms over the 4-month of study (probiotic group: 5.1 (7.0) d, placebo group: 6.6 (7.3) d, P = 0.2015). However, in the subset of forty-four randomized subjects providing biological samples, we showed that consumption of B. subtilis CU1 significantly increased fecal and salivary secretory IgA concentrations compared to the placebo. A post-hoc analysis on this subset showed a decreased frequency of respiratory infections in the probiotc group compared to the placebo group. Conclusion: Taken together, our study provides evidence that B. subtilis CU1 supplementation during the winter period may be a safe effective way to stimulate immune responses in elderly subjects
