OPTIMAL PAIR-WISE SUS ALGORITHM AS PROPORTIONAL FAIR ALGORITHM FOR MU-MIMO-OFDM SYSTEMS

    Get PDF
In this paper, we research proportional fairness of the optimal pair-wise semi-orthogonal user selection (SUS) algorithm used in the MU-MIMO-OFDM system compliant with IEEE 802.11ac standard. Zero-forcing beamforming (ZFBF) is applied in the system as a precoding technique in order to cancel user interferences. Two different scenarios are considered: homogeneous and heterogeneous. Beside the proportional fairness, a throughput performance of the MU-MIMO-OFDM system is analyzed for both scenarios too. Simulation results show that the optimal pair-wise SUS algorithm is an excellent solution to realize the trade-off between the proportional fairness among users and the achieved system throughput

The Monstrous South: Gothic Characters in William Faulkner’s Absalom, Absalom! and Toni Morrison’s Beloved

    Get PDF
The paper examines some of the Gothic features used in character development in William Faulkner’s Absalom, Absalom! and Toni Morrison’s Beloved, and explores how the two novels complement each other to form a comprehensive picture of the American South around the Civil War. In the traditions of Gothic realism and postcolonial Gothic respectively, the authors describe the 19th-century South as populated with supernatural beings: demoniac slaveholders, monsters who try to fight oppression, zombies whose souls have been devoured by the oppressive system, ghosts and revenants who return to haunt their wrongdoers, and hybrids whose transgressive nature is feared by the oppressors and the oppressed alike

The subject of this dissertation is the connection of the literary work of Ursula K. Le Guin with the Daoist worldview and ancient Chinese philosophy in general. Through a thorough analysis of the contents and structure of selected novels and short stories, the ways in which the writer incorporates the basic assumptions of Daoism into her work are elucidated. The thesis is primarily based on the analysis of the Hainish novels which implicitly or explicitly thematize the vital Daoist principles of simplicity, naturalness, freedom and inexpressibility: The Dispossessed, The Left Hand of Darkness and The Telling, along with selected short stories from the collections The Wind’s Twelve Quarters and Four Ways to Forgiveness, but also refers to other Le Guin’s works to the extent to which they are relevant for the subject of the study. As Chinese philosophy as a whole focuses on two mutually connected directions ‒ self-improvement of the individual and achievement of the ideal social system ‒ each chapter of the dissertation looks into its subject from two points of view: that of society and that of the individual. The primary aim of this thesis is to conduct a comparative analysis of Le Guin’s works and selected texts of Daoist philosophy in order to clearly present the connection between the basic principles of Daoism and her work, and thus confirm the principal hypothesis that was the starting point of this research ‒ that the literary work of Ursula K. Le Guin is deeply rooted in the tenets of the Daoist tradition of ancient China..

SECOND ORDER STATISTICS OF DUAL SELECTION DIVERSITY OVER CORRELATED WEIBULL FADING CHANNELS IN THE PRESENCE OF INTERFERENCE

    Get PDF
In this paper, second order statistics of dual selection combining (SC) system applying desired signal decision algorithm are obtained for the case when that diversity system operates in Weibull interference-limited environment. Namely, a novel closed-form expression for outage probability (OP), necessary for an analysis of average fade duration (AFD), in the term of Meijer’s G-function is derived for general case in which desired signal and cochannel interference (CCI) are exposed to fading with different severities. Depending on fading environment, semi-analytical and analytical expressions for average lever crossing rate (LCR) are obtained, too. Numerical results are presented to accomplish proposed mathematical analysis and to examine the effects of system and channel parameters on concerned quantities

PERFORMANCE OF UPLINK-NOMA WITH USER PAIRING AND DATA RATE-BASED POWER SCHEME

This paper analyzes a performance of uplink power-domain non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) system with 2K users in which a resource allocation is taken into consideration. Since the power allocation and user pairing are tightly intertwined, they are considered as a hybrid issue. Accordingly, High-High/High-Low user pairing process precedes date rate-based power allocation. Derived closed-form expressions for the outage probabilities and the sum data rate for uplink power-domain NOMA system over a composite Fisher-Snedecor (F) fading channel are used for an extensive performance evaluation. The impact of different fading/shadowing channel conditions, various users’ positions and their number on the performance metrics is examined. Presented results have high level of generality since the F fading model provides accurate characterization of the multipath/shadowing conditions in numerous communication scenarios of interest

Prostate cancer is the second most commonly occurring cancer in men. Regardless of statistics, screening for prostate cancer is an individual decision and most male patients come for their first examination with an already developed disease, as they are not adequately informed. The study aimed to emphasize the importance of preventive tests for urological diseases in the Republic of Serbia, raise awareness about urinary problems, and present social marketing strategies for prevention. The results confirm the generally lower awareness of respondents under the age of 30, followed by those who finished university, go to the doctor two or three times a year, and receive information other than by watching TV. Implemented research indicates the influence of the marketing principles and social marketing strategies on possible target groups of the male population over 50, which is aimed at raising awareness of the importance of prevention of urological diseases and the expected changes in the health behavior of the target population. © 2022 Tamara Panajotović et al

Raman microspectroscopy: toward a better distinction and profiling of different populations of dental stem cells

    Get PDF
Aim To characterize stem cells originating from different dental tissues (apical papilla [SCAP], dental follicle [DFSC], and pulp [DPSC]) and test the capacity of Raman microspectroscopy to distinguish between the three dental stem cell types. Methods SCAR DFSC, and DPSC cultures were generated from three immature wisdom teeth originating from three patients. Cell stemness was confirmed by inducing neuro-, osteo-, chondro-, and adipo-differentiaton and by mesenchymal marker expression analysis by flow-cytometry and real-time polymerase chain reaction. Cellular components were then evaluated by Raman microspectroscopy. Results We found differences between SCAP, DFSC, and DPSC Raman spectra. The ratio between proteins and nucleic acids (748/770), a parameter for discriminating more differentiated from less differentiated cells, showed significant differences between the three cell types. All cells also displayed a fingerprint region in the 600-700 cm(-1) range, and characteristic lipid peaks at positions 1440 cm(-1) and 1650 cm(-1). Conclusion Although different dental stem cells exhibited similar Raman spectra, the method enabled us to make subtle distinction between them

Background: Dental stem cells, which originate from the neural crest, due to their easy accessibility might be good candidates in neuro-regenerative procedures, along with graphene-based nanomaterials shown to promote neurogenesis in vitro. We aimed to explore the potential of liquid-phase exfoliated graphene (LPEG) film to stimulate the neuro-differentiation of stem cells from apical papilla (SCAP). Methods: The experimental procedure was structured as follows: (1) fabrication of graphene film; (2) isolation, cultivation and SCAP stemness characterization by flowcytometry, multilineage differentiation (osteo, chondro and adipo) and quantitative PCR (qPCR); (3) SCAP neuro-induction by cultivation on polyethylene terephthalate (PET) coated with graphene film; (4) evaluation of neural differentiation by means of several microscopy techniques (light, confocal, atomic force and scanning electron microscopy), followed by neural marker gene expression analysis using qPCR. Results: SCAP demonstrated exceptional stemness, as judged by mesenchymal markers’ expression (CD73, CD90 and CD105), and by multilineage differentiation capacity (osteo, chondro and adipo-differentiation). Neuro-induction of SCAP grown on PET coated with graphene film resulted in neuron-like cellular phenotype observed under different microscopes. This was corroborated by the high gene expression of all examined key neuronal markers (Ngn2, NF-M, Nestin, MAP2, MASH1). Conclusions: The ability of SCAPs to differentiate toward neural lineages was markedly enhanced by graphene film
