V Jornades Educació i Arxius.

Objective: To decide the association between affective disorders (anxiety, depression), physical activity and combined prevalence of overweight/obesity in a group of university students. Material and methods: Cross-sectional descriptive study conducted from May 2013 to November 2014 in a random sample of 450 nursing and nutrition students from two Mexican universities. A structured questionnaire on physical activity and presumptive symptoms of anxiety and depression was applied, weight and height were measured, and body mass index (BMI) was calculated. The data obtained was processed using the SPSS statistical software. Results: The combined prevalence of overweight-obesity estimated by BMI was 32.4% in the total study population; it was higher in the Universidad Autónoma de Yucatán (UADY) (41%) than in the Universidad Autónoma San Luis Potosí (UASLP) (27.5%). The difference between universities is statistically significant (p<0.05), prevalence is higher in men (38.5%) than in women (30.5%). Variables that investigate alterations in appetite according to the emotional state show statistically significant association (p<0.05) between overweight-obesity and increased appetite for stress, anxiety and sadness. There is insufficient statistical evidence in the data to establish an association between overweight-obesity and physical activity and differences in physical activity characteristics between universities were not found. Conclusion: Symptoms of anxiety and depression in university students in the health area are evident, which, associated with excessive food intake and mild physical activity, lead to overweight and obesity

The telework performance dilemma: exploring the role of trust, social isolation and fatigue

    No full text
Purpose: Due to the crisis originated by the COVID-19 pandemic, an important number of workers have been incorporating the telework modality. In this context, the distance from the workplace generates new dilemmas for work performance. In the paper the authors study the role of some individual and social antecedents on telework outcomes. In particular, they empirically investigate the direct relationship between trust (TR) and telework performance (PER) and explore mediators of that relationship such as social isolation (SI) and fatigue (FA). Design/methodology/approach: A theoretical model with three main hypotheses is proposed and tested using partial least square structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM). The study sample, of an exploratory nature, consists of a dataset of 201 teleworkers working in Spanish companies. Findings: The relevance of the proposed model is demonstrated and FA is found to be the factor that most affects (negatively) PER, followed by TR (positively) and SI (negatively). Beyond the direct effects, the results provide support for the role of SI and FA in mediating the relationship between TR and PER. Originality/value: This paper discusses the PER dilemma and proposes and tests a background model that may be useful for future research. The results are of interest to human resource managers, consultants, academics and telework tool developers and managers. Practices are proposed to improve TR or to reduce feelings of SI or FA. The research provides a practical evaluation tool for telework implementation

Does the nutritional backgrounf of sparus aurata (teleostei: sparidae) affect the disease outcome after chronic exposure to the intestinal parasite enteromyxum leei (myxozoa; myxosporea)?

Trabajo presentado en la 14th EAFP International Conference (European Association of Fish Pathologists), celebrada en Praga (República Checa), del 14 al 19 de septiembre de 2009Fish oil (FO) and protein substitution by optimised levels of vegetable ingredients is one of the current strategies for reducing the cost of fish feeds and to reduce the dependency on fisheries to produce aquafeeds. We have previously shown that either fish meal or FO can be replaced by a mixture of vegetable oils (VO) up to 65-75% without growth retardation and sings of histo-pathological damage [1, 2]. Thus, the further step was to test whether these plant protein and VO optimised diets can alter the disease outcome in front of a pathogen challenge. The myxosporean Enteromyxum leei was chosen because it is widely spread in the Mediterranean basin and it is considered one of the most threatening parasitic diseases in Mediterranean fish cultures [3]. Naïve recipient (R) gilthead sea bream fed for 9 months either a FO-based diet or a diet in which FO was 66 % replaced by a mixture of vegetable oils (66VO) were challenged by exposure to E. leei-contaminated effluent coming from tanks holding parasitized fish. Control fish received the two different diets, but remained unexposed. Fish were individually pit-tagged and sampled non-lethally at different times post-exposure (p.e.) by probing the rectal portion, and the presence of the parasite was determined by PCR. Biometrical and feed intake data were also taken. After 102 days of exposure, fish were sacrificed and haematological, biometrical, histological (HIST), immunological (total peroxidases, complement, lysozyme, respiratory burst, NO) data, as well as antioxidant indexes (intestinal and hepatic glutathione levels and total plasma antioxidant capacity) were obtained from tissue, blood and serum samples. The disease outcome was higher in 66VO-R fish, since they showed a higher prevalence and mean intensity (MI) of infection, a higher percentage of fish harbouring the parasite in the entire intestinal tract, and a faster establishment of the parasite. Disease signs were also more pronounced in 66VO-R fish, since their growth, condition factor, specific growth rate and haematocrit were significantly decreased, and food intake was also reduced (20%). A global meta-analysis was performed to correlate the different obtained data
