Tulkkien ammattitaidon kehittäminen Viittomakielialan osuuskunta Viassa
Artikkelissa kuvataan Viittomakielialan Osuuskunta Vian (Via) vuonna 2007 aloittamaa tulkkien taitotasojen arviointiin tähtäävää kehitystyötä. Artikkelissa kuvataan työn neljää vaihetta. Alkuvaiheessa koottiin työväline tulkkauksen teknistaidollisista ulottuvuuksista teoriaan perustuen ja toisessa vaiheessa luotiin taitotasot keräämällä näytteitä tulkeilta. Kolmannessa vaiheessa Vian työntekijöiden taitotasoa arvioitiin luodun viisiportaisen taitotasoasteikon avulla.
Yhteistyötahon toivomuksen mukaisesti kansiot pohjautuivat jo olemassa olevaan pelastussuunnitelmaan.
Turvallisuuskansioihin koottiin fyysisen turvallisuuden ohjeita.
The purpose of this thesis project was to compile a security folder for the residents and the staff of Hopeanuoli Service Home. In addition, the goal was to improve op-erational readiness of the staff and the residents in an acute hazard situation. The folder for the residents was written in plain text format visualized with photos. This project was implemented in co-operation with the Hopeanuoli Service Home, and the resulting safety folders were handed over to the staff and the residents to use.
The data constructing the theory section of this project was gathered from existing literature, internet, and previous similar projects. In project results, the safety folders, the data and the pictures visualising the text were presented in concise but plain text format. The folders are based on the prevailing safety plan according to the wishes of the co-operating organisation.
Physical safety instructions were compiled into the folders. The folder contains in-struction on what to do in case of a sudden hazard, for example fire. There is also a compiled listing of actions required in different types of hazard situations. There is also instruction for first aid in various hazard situations, for example intoxication, resuscitation, burns and scalds or airway blockages. The residents’ folder consists of plain text instruction on what to do in case of fire in the house.
Working on this thesis was very challenging because, first of all, we had to limit the amount of information included in the folders, and we also had to share the work evenly between the two of us students. Both folders had to be compiled in clear, compact and easy-read format.Työhön kuuluu kaksi turvallisuuskansiota jotka ovat vain Hopeanuolen palvelukodin käytössä
Three-toed Woodpecker cavities in trees : A keystone structural feature in forests shows decadal persistence but only short-term benefit for secondary cavity-breeders
Primary cavity-producers like woodpeckers are often considered as keystone species, because they produce nest sites also for several other cavity-nesting animals and, thus, maintain ecological webs of cavity-breeders. However, the detailed temporal dynamics of cavities and their lifetime occupancy rates and survival are not usually known which makes it difficult to assess the actual significance and full impact of primary cavity breeders. In this study, we monitored cavities in a large forest landscape, covering the full lifetime of cavities. We focused on a mature and old-growth forest specialist cavity-breeder, the Three-toed Woodpecker Picoides tri-dactylus. The data include the annual occupancy history of 655 old cavities of the Three-toed Woodpecker in 86 territories in a 170-km(2) area in southern Finland during 1987-2017. The study area included both managed and natural forest types. The median survival time of a cavity was 10 years, but there were significant differences between forest area types with a range of 7-13 years. The occupancy in all cavities was 21.3%, and the cavities were available for secondary cavity-breeders each year. There was a significant negative correlation between the occupancy and the age of the cavity. The first five years of a cavity were important for the total occupancy, and 86% of occupancies took place before the median age of the cavities. In cavities older than 15 years the occupancy was only 7%. The pattern was similar in all types of forests. Our results show that cavities made by Three toed Woodpeckers have rather long lifespan but also that their active use by other cavity-breeding species is restricted mostly to few years only. The result indicates that new, fresh cavities are needed continuously in a forest landscape, in order to maintain the role that Three-toed Woodpecker has as a keystone species.Peer reviewe

Vesienhoitoa suunnitellaan vesienhoitoalueittain, joita on Manner-Suomessa seitsemän. Vesienhoitoalue muodostuu yhdestä tai useammasta vesistöalueesta. Lestijoen, Pöntiönjoen, Lohtajanjoen, Viirretjoen ja Koskenkylänjoen (Lestijoen ym.) toimenpideohjelman alue kuuluu Kokemäenjoen-Saaristomeren-Selkämeren vesienhoitoalueeseen. Vesienhoidon suunnittelu etenee kuuden vuoden jaksoissa. Ensimmäiset vuoteen 2015 ulottuvat toimenpideohjelmat laadittiin laajassa yhteistyössä vuosien 2008–2009 aikana. Lisätietoa vesienhoidosta ja vesienhoidon järjestämisestä vesienhoitoalueella on saatavilla osoitteessa www.ymparisto.fi/lantinenvesienhoitoalue sekä Kokemäenjoen - Saarisromeren – Selkämeren vesienhoitoalueen vesienhoitosuunnitelmasta. Vesienhoitosuunnitelmassa esitellään tarkemmin vesienhoitoon liittyvä lainsäädäntö ja vesienhoitoon liittyvät muut suunnitelmat ja strategiat. Lisäksi vesienhoitosuunnitelmassa on tehty koko vesienhoitoaluetta koskava vaihtoehtotarkastelu vesienhoi-don toimenpiteistä
External Scientific Report - Updated food composition database for nutrient intake
This report is the final report of the EFSA contract CFT/EFSA/DCM/2011/03. The aim of the project was to provide EFSA with an updated food composition database covering approximately 1750 foods in combination with additional FoodEx2 facet descriptors included in the EFSA FoodEx2 classification system, and to expand the dataset to include harmonised information on the most common composite recipes of European countries and harmonised information on food supplements. Proposals for models of nutrient composition, composite dishes and food supplement databases were developed as well as guidelines for mapping food data in national datasets to EFSA FoodEx2 codes and facet descriptors. A model for data transfer, compatible with the EuroFIR technical annex and CEN Food Data Standard, and the EFSA data structure was developed and tested. Fourteen national food database compiler organisations supplied initial food lists mapped to the EFSA food list. Information on commonly consumed composite dishes was provided by compilers from thirteen countries and information on food supplements was provided by compilers from eight countries. Datasets compatible with EFSA‟s data structure were produced based on the models. In addition, guidelines developed and limitations of the data produced are discussed.EFS
Testing value investing strategies and analyzing their characteristics: Evidence from North and Latin America
This thesis aims to study performance of value stocks and compare results from Latin and North America. These are compared to understand how these markets differ, and how value stock returns and behaviour differ between these emerging and developed economies. This research provides value due to the low amount of value investing research performed with Latin American data. Even previously performed research might not be valid anymore due to quick evolvement of the market during the 21st century. Latin America provides an interesting setting for a study due to its unique characteristics that include location, similar cultures and strong economic growth.
Main part of the thesis is to perform research with price-to-book, size, sales-to-price, dividend ratio, price-to-cashflow, and with price-to-earnings ratio to test their effectiveness in these markets during given timeframe from the year 2000 till the end of 2013. Best performing ratios are then studied further to understand their performance and possibly to see how they could be improved. Given results are used to understand best investment ratios, how Latin and North American markets differ and if one or the other should be preferred. Detailed look is also given to behavioural finance theories and specifics of economic development of American markets to understand their development and future possibilities and challenges.
Results show strong performance from size and price-to-sales strategies in American continents. Deeper study into these strategies reveals market capitalization is an important part of the success of companies as small companies are a vital part of sales- to-price strategy’s success as well. Correspondingly long-term holding periods of over five years are generally better performing. It also becomes clear that using one ratio to group stocks is efficient enough with large groups that are then likely to contain a small number of outperforming stocks that bring majority of returns. To form small portfolios investor is likely better off if he avoids strict ratio based picking strategies, but use one effective ratio to group the stocks and then eliminate stocks with the worst factors, by using criteria such as market outlook and quality of management.fi=Opinnäytetyö kokotekstinä PDF-muodossa.|en=Thesis fulltext in PDF format.|sv=Lärdomsprov tillgängligt som fulltext i PDF-format
