Consuming for status among Malaysian working women

This study measures the influence of money attitude, brand consciousness and social status on status consumption among working women in Klang Valley. A total of 200 working women completed the questionnaires which were collected using mall intercept concept. The focus on luxury brand item was narrowed down to three category which were clothings/scarfs, shoes and handbags. The results revealed that brand consciousness has a significant relationship with status consumption. Women who are consciousness about the brands have a higher tendency to engage in status consumption

Toward precision medicine in ADHD

Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a complex and heterogeneous neurodevelopmental condition for which curative treatments are lacking. Whilst pharmacological treatments are generally effective and safe, there is considerable inter-individual variability among patients regarding treatment response, required dose, and tolerability. Many of the non-pharmacological treatments, which are preferred to drug-treatment by some patients, either lack efficacy for core symptoms or are associated with small effect sizes. No evidence-based decision tools are currently available to allocate pharmacological or psychosocial treatments based on the patient's clinical, environmental, cognitive, genetic, or biological characteristics. We systematically reviewed potential biomarkers that may help in diagnosing ADHD and/or stratifying ADHD into more homogeneous subgroups and/or predict clinical course, treatment response, and long-term outcome across the lifespan. Most work involved exploratory studies with cognitive, actigraphic and EEG diagnostic markers to predict ADHD, along with relatively few studies exploring markers to subtype ADHD and predict response to treatment. There is a critical need for multisite prospective carefully designed experimentally controlled or observational studies to identify biomarkers that index inter-individual variability and/or predict treatment response

Terra e escola: duas faces da mesma luta

This article part of the historiographic research “Educação no Assentamento 29 de Outubro” that we developed. We tried to point the resistance and exclusion of a teacher’s group in the MST (Landless movement) in a settle in Trindade do Sul tour, in Rio Grande do Sul, the fight between the stadual Education Net and the settlers community in the fight for the education program to be developed in the stadual Elementary School Marli Rissotto Zanchet. We historicized the fight for the land and the school conquest by the group of parents teachers and students.Este artigo é parte da pesquisa historiográfica “Educação no Assentamento 29 de Outubro”. Procura-se destacar a resistência e exclusão de um grupo de professoras do Movimento dos Trabalhadores Rurais Sem Terra – MST, em assentamento do município de Trindade do Sul, no Rio Grande do Sul; o confronto da Rede Estadual de Ensino e a comunidade de assentados na luta pelo programa de ensino a ser desenvolvido na Escola Estadual de Ensino Fundamental Marli Rissotto Zanchet. Flaxseed gum-biopolymers interactions driving rheological behaviour of oropharyngeal dysphagia-oriented products

Viscosity-modified diet through thickeners is used as a strategy to circumvent swallowing problems by oropharyngeal dysphagia patients. Most commercial products present xanthan and starch in their formulations, but flaxseed gum (FG) is a potential thickener for liquid food that provides additional health benefits. FG was mixed either with modified starch (MS) and/or xanthan gum (XG), varying biopolymersâ concentration according to a central composite rotational design in which rheological and colour properties in water were the evaluated responses. All formulations showed a shear time-independent and shear-thinning behaviour, mainly influenced by XG and MS concentrations. In oscillatory measurements, the formulations presented a prevailing elastic character attributed to MS and mainly to XG, which despite the lower concentration in which it was incorporated, exerted a similar influence on this rheological property. However, the increase of FG concentration was the most significant factor influencing viscosity, but also favoured an increase of both viscoelastic moduli mainly G'. Analysis of the microstructure disclosed different network structures as a result of biopolymers interactions, which was related to rheological behaviour giving insights to design new thickeners for dysphagia management. In addition, the amount of glucose released after in vitro digestion was evaluated and compared to a commercial MS-based thickener. Interestingly, the commercial formulation showed a glucose release significantly higher than the proposed FG/MS/XG-based formulations. Biomassa e estoques de nutrientes em vegetação de pousio sob diferentes manejos em sistema agroflorestal seqüencial de corte-e-trituração na Amazônia Oriental.

O manejo da vegetação de pousio é importante para manutenção da produtividade em sistemas agroflorestais seqüenciais. Durante o período de pousio, o sistema acumula nutrientes para as culturas agrícolas subseqüentes. A introdução de espécies leguminosas associadas à adubação fosfatada de baixa solubilidade pode promover o acúmulo de biomassa e os estoques de nutrientes influenciando positivamente na produtividade das culturas agrícolas. O estudo da biomassa e dos estoques de nutrientes nesses agroecossistemas pode fornecer subsídios para o seu manejo. Este artigo compara estimativas da biomassa e estoques de nutrientes de três vegetações de pousio submetidos a diferentes tratamentos: (1) pousio espontâneo; (2) pousio enriquecido com leguminosas arbóreas (Sclerolobium paniculatum Vogel e Inga edulis Mart.), e (3) pousio enriquecido com leguminosas arbóreas submetidas à adubação fosfatada de baixa solubilidade. O experimento foi conduzido por 23 meses, em um sistema agroflorestal seqüencial de corte-e-trituração no município de Marapanim, Amazônia Oriental. Predictors of gaming disorder in children and adolescents : a school-based study

Objective: To determine whether psychiatric and gaming pattern variables are associated with gaming disorder in a school-based sample. Methods: We analyzed data from the Brazilian High-Risk Cohort for Psychiatric Disorders, a community sample aged 10 to 18, using questionnaires on gaming use patterns. We applied the Gaming Addiction Scale to diagnose gaming disorder and the Development and Well-Being Behavior Assessment for other diagnoses. Results: Out of 407 subjects, 83 (20.4%) fulfilled the criteria for gaming disorder. More role-playing game players were diagnosed with gaming disorder that any other genre. Gaming disorder rates increased proportionally to the number of genres played. Playing online, being diagnosed with a mental disorder, and more hours of non-stop gaming were associated with higher rates of gaming disorder. When all variables (including age and gender) were considered in a logistic regression model, the number of genres played, the number of non-stop hours, the proportion of online games, and having a diagnosed mental disorder emerged as significant predictors of gaming disorder. Conclusion: Each variable seems to add further risk of gaming disorder among children and adolescents. Monitoring the length of gaming sessions, the number and type of genres played, time spent gaming online, and behavior changes may help parents or guardians identify unhealthy patterns of gaming behavior

Uso de redutor de pH na calda de indutores de brotação de macieira.

RESUMO - Os indutores de brotação são substâncias que auxiliam a superação da dormência via compensação de parte do frio requerido, possibilitando brotação e floração satisfatórias e uniformes, bem como a viabilidade econômica da cultura da macieira por ocasião do cultivo em regiões de inverno ameno. Inúmeros trabalhos elucidam a maior eficiência de agroquímicos perante aplicações sob baixo pH e a dinâmica de alteração deste parâmetro por ocasião da combinação de diferentes moléculas. O objetivo do trabalho foi avaliar variações, sob 5 diferentes tempos (0 min, 30 min, 60 min, 90 min e 120 min), de caldas formuladas com indutores de brotação junto a 3 concentrações (0 mL/L, 0,2 mL/L e 0,4 mL/L) do redutor de pH Quimifol P30w, definidas e calibradas por estudos prévios. Os indutores utilizados foram (i) Dormex® + Óleo Mineral; (ii) Erger® + Óleo Mineral; (iii) Bluprins® + Nitrato de cálcio; (iv) Siberio® + Nitrato de cálcio; (v) Erger® + Nitrato de cálcio e (vi) Syncron® + Óleo Mineral. Para cada indutor de brotação em estudo, o delineamento experimental foi inteiramente casualizado, com cinco repetições. Os indutores de brotação avaliados apresentam pH de calda variando de 5,1 a 7,0. A exceção da combinação de Syncron® + óleo mineral, os demais indutores de brotação tem seu pH significativamente reduzido quando utilizado o redutor de pH Quimifol P30w. Ensaios à campo deverão ser realizados para avaliar se ocorre aumento da eficiência de indutores de brotação em faixas de pH mais ácido.
