Magnetic properties of the nucleon in a uniform background field
We present results for the magnetic moment and magnetic polarisability of the
neutron and the magnetic moment of the proton. These results are calculated
using the uniform background field method on 32^3 x 64 dynamical QCD lattices
provided by the PACS-CS collaboration as part of the ILDG. We use a uniform
background magnetic field quantised by the periodic spatial volume. We
investigate ways to improve the effective energy plots used to calculate
magnetic polarisabilities, including the use of correlation matrix techniques
with various source smearings.Comment: 9 pages, 14 figures, 2 table
Photoredox Generated Radicals In Csp2-Csp3 Bond Construction
The routine application of Csp3-hybridized nucleophiles in cross-coupling has been an
ongoing pursuit in the agrochemical, pharmaceutical, and materials science industries for over 40
years. Unfortunately, despite numerous attempts to circumvent the problems associated with alkyl
nucleophiles, application of these reagents in transition metal-catalyzed C-C bond-forming
reactions has remained largely restricted. In recent years, many chemists have noted the lack of
reliable, turnkey reactions that exist for the installation of Csp3-hybridized centers - reactions that
would be useful for delivering molecules with enhanced three-dimensional topology and altered
chemical properties. As such, a general method for alkyl nucleophile activation in cross-coupling
would offer access to a host of compounds inaccessible by other means.
From a mechanistic standpoint, the continued failure of alkylmetallics is inherent to the high energy
intermediates associated with a traditional transmetalation. To overcome this problem, we
have pioneered an alternate, single-electron pathway involving 1) initial oxidation of an
alkylmetallic reagent, 2) oxidative alkyl radical capture at a metal center, and 3) subsequent
reduction of the metal center to return its initial oxidation state. This series of steps constitutes a
formal transmetalation that avoids the energy-demanding steps that plague a traditional anionic
approach. Under this enabling paradigm, a host of alkyl precursors (alkyl-trifluoroborates and -
silicates) have been generally used in cross-coupling for the first time.
In summary, the synergistic use of an Ir photoredox catalyst and a Ni cross-coupling catalyst
to mediate the cross-coupling of (hetero)aryl bromides with diverse alkyl radical precursors will be
discussed. Methods for coupling various trifluoroborate classes (α-alkoxy, α-trifluoromethyl,
secondary and tertiary alkyl) will be covered, focusing on their complementarity to traditional
protocols. Finally, a discussion of novel silicate radical precursors and their advantages in a single-electron
transmetalation regime will be included
Faculty Perception Of Department Chairs\u27 Leadership Style And Perceived Effects On Music Faculty\u27s Self-Reported Productivity
The purpose of this study was to examine the perceived effectiveness of the leadership styles of music department chairs and the responses to the leadership styles by faculty. This study specifically investigated the leadership styles of music department chairs serving in public higher education institutions with NASM accredited music units in the states of Arkansas and Mississippi. The study examined the perceived types of leadership styles used by music department chairs and their relationship with music faculties\u27 self-reported productivity as seen by faculty members within the department. The need for this study is to assist universities in recruiting and developing effective leaders as department chairs. This study used a descriptive correlation design. The data for this study were collected using the survey research approach to examine the perception of the leadership styles by faculty and the effect that style has on music faculty\u27s self-reported productivity. The sample for this study consisted of one hundred and seventy-four (174) faculty members with non-administrative titles and full-time position appointment as senior professors and junior professors. Results from the summary of responses were presented in frequency counts and percentages among the ranks to describe the data. The Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire (MLQ) was analyzed using chi-square to determine if there were significant differences among the groups. The Spearman rho was used to determine if there was a relationship with music faculty perception of the chair\u27s leadership and self-reported of productivity. Based upon the findings from the MLQ, senior and junior faculty was satisfied with the chair\u27s leadership. In the chi- square findings, the analysis revealed that a significant difference was only found in two subscales, subscales one and eleven. The two subscales are Subscale One Transformational: Idealized Influence and Subscale Eleven Outcomes of Leadership: Effeteness . The Spearman rho revealed that the there is a relationship with the chairs leadership and self-report of productivity from music faculty
Implementation and Assessment of a Simple Nonlocal van der Waals Density Functional
Recently we developed a nonlocal van der Waals density functional (VV09) that has a simple and well-behaved analytic form. In this article, we report a self-consistent implementation of VV09 with an atom-centered basis set. We compute binding energies for a diverse benchmark set and find that VV09 performs well in combination with Hartree–Fock exchange. We compare VV09 with its precursor, discuss likely sources of inaccuracies in both models, and identify some aspects of the methodology where further refinements are desirable.National Science Foundation (U.S.) (NSF CAREER Grant No. CHE-0547877)David & Lucile Packard Foundation (Fellowship
DESARROLLO Y SOCIEDAD 63 El trabajo infanto-juvenil y el estado nutricional de los menores colombianos Child labor and the nutritional status of Colombian children

Malo solarno ORC postrojenje
