    Supergravity p-branes revisited: extra parameters, uniqueness, and topological censorship

    We perform a complete integration of the Einstein-dilaton-antisymmetric form action describing black p-branes in arbitrary dimensions assuming the transverse space to be homogeneous and possessing spherical, toroidal or hyperbolic topology. The generic solution contains eight parameters satisfying one constraint. Asymptotically flat solutions form a five-parametric subspace, while conditions of regularity of the non-degenerate event horizon further restrict this number to three, which can be related to the mass and the charge densities and the asymptotic value of the dilaton. In the case of a degenerate horizon, this number is reduced by one. Our derivation constitutes a constructive proof of the uniqueness theorem for pp-branes with the homogeneous transverse space. No asymptotically flat solutions with toroidal or hyperbolic transverse space within the considered class are shown to exist, which result can be viewed as a demonstration of the topological censorship for p-branes. From our considerations it follows, in particular, that some previously discussed p-brane-like solutions with extra parameters do not satisfy the standard conditions of asymptotic flatness and absence of naked singularities. We also explore the same system in presence of a cosmological constant, and derive a complete analytic solution for higher-dimensional charged topological black holes, thus proving their uniqueness.Comment: Revtex4, no figure

    Holography at an Extremal De Sitter Horizon

    Rotating maximal black holes in four-dimensional de Sitter space, for which the outer event horizon coincides with the cosmological horizon, have an infinite near-horizon region described by the rotating Nariai metric. We show that the asymptotic symmetry group at the spacelike future boundary of the near-horizon region contains a Virasoro algebra with a real, positive central charge. This is evidence that quantum gravity in a rotating Nariai background is dual to a two-dimensional Euclidean conformal field theory. These results are related to the Kerr/CFT correspondence for extremal black holes, but have two key differences: one of the black hole event horizons has been traded for the cosmological horizon, and the near-horizon geometry is a fiber over dS_2 rather than AdS_2.Comment: 15 page

    Measurement of the CP asymmetry in B- -> (Ds-D0) and B- -> (D-D0) decays

    The CP asymmetry in B- -> (Ds-D0) and B- -> (D-D0) decays is measured using LHCb data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3.0 fb(-1), collected in pp collisions at centre-of-mass energies of 7 and 8TeV. The results are A(CP) (B- -> (Ds-D0)) = (-0.4 +/- 0.5 +/- 0.5)% and A(CP) (B- -> (D-D0)) = (2.3 +/- 2.7 +/- 0.4)%, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second systematic. This is the first measurement of A(CP) (B- -> (Ds-D0)) and the most precise determination of A(CP) (B- -> (D-D0)). Neither result shows evidence of CP violation

    Field measurement of strain response for typical asphalt pavement

    In order to reveal the changing law of the mechanical response of asphalt pavements under the action of vehicle load and provide references for the design of durable pavements, three typical asphalt pavement structures with flexible base (S1), combined base (S2), and semi-rigid base (S3) were selected to perform field strain tests under static and dynamic load using the fiber Bragg grating optical sensing technology. The changing characteristics of the strain field along the horizontal and depth directions of pavements were analyzed. The results indicate that the most unfavorable asphalt pavement layers were the upper-middle surface layer and the lower base layer. In addition, the most unfavorable loading positions on the surface layer and the base layer were the center of wheel load and the gap center between two wheels, respectively. The most unfavorable layer of the surface layers gradually moved from the lower layer to the upper layer with the increase of base layer modulus. The power function relationships between structural layer strain and vehicle speed were revealed. The semi-rigid base asphalt pavement was the most durable pavement type, since its strain value was lower compared to those of the other structures
