    Single Step Deposition of an Interacting Layer of Perovskite Matrix with Embedded Quantum Dots

    Hybrid lead halide perovskite (PS) derivatives have emerged as very promising materials for the development of optoelectronic devices in the last few years. At the same time, inorganic nanocrystals with quantum confinement (QDs) possess unique properties that make them suitable materials for the development of photovoltaics, imaging and lighting applications, among others. In this work, we report on a new methodology for the deposition of high quality, large grain size and pinhole free PS films (CH3NH3PbI3) with embedded PbS and PbS/CdS core/shell Quantum Dots (QDs). The strong interaction between both semiconductors is revealed by the formation of an exciplex state, which is monitored by photoluminescence and electroluminescence experiments. The radiative exciplex relaxation is centered in the near infrared region (NIR), ≈1200 nm, which corresponds to lower energies than the corresponding band gap of both perovskite (PS) and QDs. Our approach allows the fabrication of multi-wavelength light emitting diodes (LEDs) based on a PS matrix with embedded QDs, which show considerably low turn-on potentials.     From pre- to young Planetary Nebulae: radio continuum variability

    Searching for variability, we have observed a sample of hot post-AGB stars and young Planetary Nebulae candidates with the Very Large Array at 4.8, 8.4, and 22.4 GHz. The sources had been previously detected in the radio continuum, which is a proof that the central stars have started ionising their circumstellar envelopes and an increase in radio flux with time can be expected as a result of the progression of the ionisation front. Such a behaviour has been found in IRAS 18062+2410, whose radio modelling has allowed us to determine that its ionised mass has increased from 10^{-4} to 3.3 10^{-4} M_sun in 8 years and its envelope has become optically thin at lower frequencies. Different temporal behaviours have been found for three other sources. IRAS 17423-1755 has shown a possibly periodic pattern and an inversion of its radio spectral index, as expected from a varying stellar wind. We estimate that the radio flux arises from a very compact region around the central star (10^{15} cm) with an electron density of 2 10^6 cm^{-3}. IRAS 22568+6141 and 17516-2525 have decreased their radio flux densities of about 10% per year over 4 years. While a linear increase of the flux density with time points out to the progression of the ionisation front in the envelope, decreases as well as quasi-periodic patterns may indicate the presence of unstable stellar winds/jets or thick dusty envelopes absorbing ionising photons.Comment: 9 pages, 5 figures, accepted for publication on MNRA

    Directional and Polarized Lasing Action on Pb-free FASnI3 Integrated in Flexible Optical Waveguide

    In this work, high-quality FASnI3 (FA, formamidinium) lead-free perovskite thin films are successfully incorporated in a flexible polyethylene terephthalate (PET) substrate to demonstrate amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) and lasing. The waveguide (WG) consists of polymethylmethacrylate(PMMA)/FASnI3 bilayer deposited on a PET substrate and is properly designed to allow single-mode propagation at the photoluminescence wavelength. This geometry optimizes the excitation of the emitting FASnI3, enhances the light−matter interaction in the semiconductor thin film, provides a preferable direction for the emitted light and allows its direct outcoupling for on-chip or fiber-optic applications. As far as the authors know, ASE and random lasing are obtained for the first time in a flexible-based WG integrating a highly efficient lead-free perovskite. The high quality of the deposited films and the optimized design of the structure result in an extremely low ASE/lasing threshold in the range of 1 µJ cm−2, which is only ten times higher than that measured in the same PMMA/FASnI3 structure deposited on a rigid substrate (Si/SiO2). More interestingly, these WGs exhibit a strong polarization anisotropy for the outcoupled ASE/lasing light with a preferable transverse electric polarization.     The 1989 and 2015 outbursts of V404 Cygni: a global study of wind-related optical features

    The black hole transient V404 Cygni exhibited a bright outburst in June 2015 that was intensively followed over a wide range of wavelengths. Our team obtained high time resolution optical spectroscopy (~90 s), which included a detailed coverage of the most active phase of the event. We present a database consisting of 651 optical spectra obtained during this event, that we combine with 58 spectra gathered during the fainter December 2015 sequel outburst, as well as with 57 spectra from the 1989 event. We previously reported the discovery of wind-related features (P-Cygni and broad-wing line profiles) during both 2015 outbursts. Here, we build diagnostic diagrams that enable us to study the evolution of typical emission line parameters, such as line fluxes and equivalent widths, and develop a technique to systematically detect outflow signatures. We find that these are present throughout the outburst, even at very low optical fluxes, and that both types of outflow features are observed simultaneously in some spectra, confirming the idea of a common origin. We also show that the nebular phases depict loop patterns in many diagnostic diagrams, while P-Cygni profiles are highly variable on time-scales of minutes. The comparison between the three outbursts reveals that the spectra obtained during June and December 2015 share many similarities, while those from 1989 exhibit narrower emission lines and lower wind terminal velocities.     Unusual Spectrally Reproducible and High Q-Factor Random Lasing in Polycrystalline Tin Perovskite Films

    An unusual spectrally reproducible near-IR random lasing (RL) with no fluctuation of lasing peak wavelength is disclosed in polycrystalline films of formamidinium tin triiodide perovskite, which have been chemically stabilized against Sn2+ to Sn4+ oxidation. Remarkably, a quality Q-factor as high as ≈104 with an amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) threshold as low as 2 µJ cm−2 (both at 20 K) are achieved. The observed spectral reproducibility is unprecedented for semiconductor thin film RL systems and cannot be explained by the strong spatial localization of lasing modes. Instead, it is suggested that the spectral stability is a result of such an unique property of Sn-based perovskites as a large inhomogeneous broadening of the emitting centers, which is a consequence of an intrinsic structural inhomogeneity of the material. Due to this, lasing can occur simultaneously in modes that are spatially strongly overlapped, as long as the spectral separation between the modes is larger than the homogeneous linewidth of the emitting centers.     Development of a Multicriteria Scheme for the Identification of Strategic Areas for SUDS Implementation:A Case Study from Gijón, Spain

    Spain has been pinpointed as one of the European countries at major risk of extreme urban events. Thus, Spanish cities pursue new urban plans to increase their resilience. In this scenario, experiences in the implementation of Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems (SUDS) have increased substantially. Nevertheless, few cities have developed a global urban strategy for SUDS, lacking, in many cases, a method to identify strategic areas to maximize their synergetic benefits. Furthermore, there is still a need for a holistic Multicriteria Decision Analysis (MCDA) framework that considers the four pillars of SUDS design. The city of Gij&oacute;n, NW Spain, has been selected as a case study due to its environmental and climatic stresses. This research presents the methodology developed for this city, which aims to analyze the need for SUDS implementation throughout the identification of strategic areas. With this aim, a combination of Geographic Information System (GIS) software and the MCDA Analytical Hierarchical Process (AHP) were proposed. The results show the potential for SUDS&rsquo; implementation, according to nine criteria related to the SUDS&rsquo; design pillars. We found that the areas where the implementation of SUDS would bring the greatest functional, environmental and social benefits are mainly located in consolidated urban areas

    Mixed Production of Filamentous Fungal Spores for Preventing Soil-Transmitted Helminth Zoonoses: A Preliminary Analysis

    Helminth zoonoses are parasitic infections shared by humans and animals, being the soil-transmitted helminths (STHs) mainly caused by roundworms (ascarids) and hookworms. This study was aimed to assess the individual and/or mixed production of two helminth-antagonistic fungi, one ovicide (Mucor circinelloides) and other predator (Duddingtonia flagrans). Fungi were grown both in Petri plates and in a submerged culture (composed by water, NaCl, Na2HPO4 · 12 H2O, and wheat (Triticum aestivum)). A Fasciola hepatica recombinant protein (FhrAPS) was incorporated to the cultures to improve fungal production. All the cultured plates showed fungal growth, without difference in the development of the fungi when grown alone or mixed. High counts of Mucor spores were produced in liquid media cultures, and no significant differences were achieved regarding single or mixed cultures, or the incorporation of the FhrAPS. A significantly higher production of Duddingtonia spores after the incorporation of the FhrAPS was observed. When analyzing the parasiticide efficacy of the fungal mixture, viability of T. canis eggs reduced to 51%, and the numbers of third stage cyathostomin larvae reduced to 4%. It is concluded, the capability of a fungal mixture containing an ovicide (Mucor) and a predator species (Duddingtonia) for growing together in a submerged medium containing the FhrAPS offers a very interesting tool for preventing STHs.This work was partly supported by the Research Projects 10MDS261023PR (Xunta de Galicia, Spain) and AGL2012-34355 (Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad, Spain; FEDER)S

    Prevalence of trematodes of the Paramphistomatidae family in cattle of Yurimaguas district, province of Alto Amazonas, Loreto

    Se determinó la prevalencia de Paramfistómidos en bovinos del distrito de Yurimaguas, provincia de Alto Amazonas, Loreto. Se colectaron muestras de heces en 421 bovinos, entre junio de 2006 a febrero de 2007, para su evaluación coproparasitológica con la técnica de sedimentación espontánea. Se obtuvo una prevalencia del 44.2 ± 4.7%. En la prueba de regresión logística se determinó que la edad (p&lt;0.05), y no el sexo, constituía factor de riesgo, donde bovinos mayores de tres años de edad presentaron 3 ó más veces mayor riesgo de presentar esta parasitosis que animales menores. El alto grado de prevalencia de Paramfistomosis estaría influenciado por las condiciones medioambientales favorables presentes en la zona de estudio, así como por la falta de estrategias de prevención y control en la población bovina local.The prevalence of Paramphistomids in cattle of Yurimaguas district, Alto Amazonas province, Loreto was evaluated. Fecal samples from 421 cattle were collected since June 2006 till February 2007 for the coproparasitological evaluation using the spontaneous sedimentation technique. The resulting prevalence was 44.2 ± 4.7%. The logistic regression test indicated that age (p&lt;0.05), and not sex was a risk factor where animals over three years of age had three times more risk to suffer the disease than younger animals. The high prevalence of Paramphistomosis observed in the cattle population might be influenced by favorable environmental conditions in the study area, as well as the lack of prevention and control strategies in the local cattle population
