Lipomas profundos
Se han revisado retrospectivamente 10 lipomas profundos localizados en los
miembros. Todos los pacientes fueron intervenidos quirúrgicamente y el diagnóstico de certeza
fue histopatológico. Siete de los casos eran lipomas intra o intermusculares y los restantes angiolipoma,
hibernoma y fibrolipoma intraneural, respectivamente. El seguimiento medio postoperatorio
fue de 48 meses (mínimo: 14, y máximo: 84). No ha habido recidiva en ningún caso.This article is a retrospective review of 10 deep lipomata localized in the limbs. In
all the cases the treatment required surgery, and the diagnosis was made by histopathological
analysis. Seven cases were intra or intermuscular lipomata, and the other three were angiolipoma,
hibernoma and endoneural fibrolipoma. The average postoperative follow-up time was 48 months
(14 min-84 max). None showed recurrence at review

Está muy bien documentado en la literatura médica
que la desnutrición es un problema común en todos los
niveles de atención sanitaria, desde atención primaria a
especializada y en centros de atención geriátrica. Este
problema no se limita a países con pocos recursos económicos
o con limitado desarrollo social y económico. También
es un problema universal en Europa. La desnutrición
aumenta las cifras de morbilidad, mortalidad,
ingresos hospitalarios y duración de la estancia. Estas
cifras más elevadas suponen lógicamente un aumento del
uso de recursos sanitarios. A pesar de esto, el problema de
la desnutrición a menudo puede pasar desapercibido y el
paciente no recibir el tratamiento necesario. Este problema
requiere la cooperación de múltiples agentes tales
como los Gobiernos de los Estados, los profesionales de la
salud y los mismos ciudadanos. El VIII Foro de Debate
concluye con la necesidad de establecer un claro plan de
actuación (a semejanza de la European Alliance for
Health Nutrition) y la creación de una plataforma (coalición)
que reúna las voces de asociaciones de profesionales
sanitarios, instituciones, colegios profesionales, asociaciones
de pacientes, industria y entidades aseguradoras. Los
fines de esta plataforma consistirán en informar de la
extensión del problema, identificar y potenciar líderes
que transmitan los fines de esta iniciativa ante las autoridades
autonómicas y nacionales, propuesta de soluciones
y colaboración en su puesta en marcha y finalmente, evaluación/
control de las acciones desarrolladasIt has been well documented in medical literature that
hyponutrition is a common issue at all healthcare levels,
from primary to specialized health care, as well as geria -
tric healthcare facilities. This problem is not limited to
countries with scarce economic resources or limited social
development; it is also a universal issue in Europe.
Hyponutrition increases the rates of morbidity, mortality,
hospital admissions, and hospital stay. These higher
figures also represent a higher use of healthcare
resources. In spite of this, hyponutrition may often go
undetected and the patient may not receive the necessary
treatment. This problem requires the cooperation of multiple
agents such as the Governments, the healthcare professionals,
and the citizens themselves. The VIII Discussion
Forum concludes on the need to establish a clear-cut
plant for action (similar to the European Alliance for
Health Nutrition) and the creation of a platform (coalition)
encompassing the voices of healthcare professionals
associations, institutions, professional colleges, patients
associations, the pharmaceutical companies, and insurance
companies. The goals of this platform will be to
inform about the extent of this issue, to identity and promote
leaders that will convey the aims of this initiative to
regional and national healthcare authorities, to present
solutions and to collaborate in their implementation, and
finally to assess/control the actions take

Sulfur-Modulated Tin Sites Enable Highly Selective Electrochemical Reduction of CO2 to Formate
Electrochemical reduction of carbon dioxide (CO2RR) to formate provides an avenue to the synthesis of value-added carbon-based fuels and feedstocks powered using renewable electricity. Here, we hypothesized that the presence of sulfur atoms in the catalyst surface could promote undercoordinated sites, and thereby improve the electrochemical reduction of CO2 to formate. We explored, using density functional theory, how the incorporation of sulfur into tin may favor formate generation. We used atomic layer deposition of SnSx followed by a reduction process to synthesize sulfur-modulated tin (Sn(S)) catalysts. X-ray absorption near-edge structure (XANES) studies reveal higher oxidation states in Sn(S) compared with that of tin in Sn nanoparticles. Sn(S)/Au accelerates CO2RR at geometric current densities of 55 mA cm−2 at −0.75 V versus reversible hydrogen electrode with a Faradaic efficiency of 93%. Furthermore, Sn(S) catalysts show excellent stability without deactivation (<2% productivity change) following more than 40 hours of operation. With rapid advances in the efficient and cost-effective conversion of sunlight to electrical power, the development of storage technologies for renewable energy is even more urgent. Using renewable electricity to convert CO2 into formate simultaneously addresses the need for storage of intermittent renewable energy sources and the need to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. We report an increase of greater than 4-fold in the current density (hence the rate of reaction) in formate electrosynthesis compared with relevant controls. Our catalysts also show excellent stability without deactivation (<2% productivity change) following more than 40 hours of operation. The electrochemical reduction of carbon dioxide (CO2RR) offers a compelling route to energy storage and high-value chemical manufacture. The presence of sulfur atoms in catalyst surfaces promotes undercoordinated sites, thereby improving the electrochemical reduction of CO2 to formate. The resulting sulfur-modulated tin catalysts accelerate CO2RR at geometric current densities of 55 mA cm−2 at −0.75 V versus RHE with a Faradaic efficiency of 93%
Control of the morphology on selective area growth of GaN nanocolumns by rf-plasma-assisted
Selective area growth (SAG) of GaN nanocolumns (NCs), making use of patterned or masked (nanoholes) substrates, yields a periodic, homogeneous distribution of nanostructures, that makes their processing much easier compared with self-assembled ones. In addition, the control on the diameter and density of NCs avoids dispersion in the electrooptical characteristics of the heterostructures based on this type of material (embedded InGaN/GaN quantum disks for example). Selective area growth using a mask with nanohole arrays has been demonstrated by rf-plasma-assisted MBE [1, 2]

En el VIº Foro de Debate Abbott-SENPE se establece una discusión multidisciplinar y multiprofesional para buscar el o los modelos de gestión clínica que consideramos más adecuados para la Unidades de Nutrición
Clínica y Dietética (UNCyD) en España. Se valoran los puntos débiles y fuertes así como las oportunidades de los actuales sistemas y se concluye en la observación de una cierta disparidad vinculada no solo a las comunidades autónomas sino también a los diferentes tipos de hospital.
Se propone, desde SENPE, la creación de un grupo de trabajo
que ayude a la normalización de los modelos y a potenciar la cultura del Cuadro de Mandos Integral y de Gestión del Cambio.At the 6th Abbott-SENPE Debate Forum a multidisciplinary and multiprofessional discussion was established in order to seek for the model or the models of clinical management most appropriate for Clinical Nutrition and Dietetics Units (CNAD) in Spain. The weaknesses and strengths as well as opportunities for the current systems were assessed concluding that a certain degree of disparity was observed not only due to regional differences but also to different hospital types. It was proposed, from SENPE, the creation of a working group helping to standardize the models and promote the culture of Integral Control and Change Management
Hormony tarczycy i otyłość: znana, lecz słabo rozpoznana relacja
Hormony tarczycy (thyroid hormones, TH) są zaangażowane w wiele różnych procesów biologicznych, wliczając rozwój układu nerwowego, regulację metabolizmu pośredniego oraz zużycie energii. Aktywnie uczestniczą w podstawowym zużyciu energii i termogenezie adaptacyjnej i z tego względu mogą mieć wpływ na masę ciała w przebiegu chorób tarczycy. Otyłość to niezakaźna, przewlekła, zapalna choroba metaboliczna, która implikuje dodatni bilans energetyczny. Tkanka tłuszczowa produkuje szereg hormonów i adipocytokin, takich jak leptyna, które mogą wpływać na stan tarczycy na różnych poziomach. Istnieją dowody na to, że dysfunkcja tarczycy może predysponować do otyłości i odwrotnie, istnieją dowody sugerujące, że otyłość powoduje zmiany dotyczące tarczycy. Celem tej pracy było opisanie związku między układem tarczycy a otyłością. Ponadto w pracy zaprezentowano hipotetyczny model podkreślający znaczenie obwodowej dejodynacji hormonów tarczycy i jego rolę w ustanowieniu dodatniego bilansu energetycznego. Podsumowując, możemy stwierdzić, że relacja między układem tarczycy a otyłością i nadwagą jest złożona i obejmuje wiele poziomów interakcji. Ponadto, poddając ocenie otyłego pacjenta, powinno się rozważyć ocenę funkcji tarczycy, aby uzyskać lepsze i spersonalizowane efekty leczenia

High resolution spectroscopy of the high velocity hot post-AGB star LS III +52 24 (IRAS 22023+5249)
The first high-resolution (R~50,000) optical spectrum of the B-type star, LS
III +52 24, identified as the optical counterpart of the hot post-AGB candidate
IRAS 22023+5249 (I22023) is presented. We report the detailed identifications
of the observed absorption and emission features in the full wavelength range
(4290-9015 A) as well as the atmospheric parameters and photospheric abundances
(under the Local Thermodinamic Equilibrium approximation) for the first time.
The nebular parameters (Te, Ne) are also derived. We estimate Teff=24,000 K,
log g=3.0, xi=7 kms-1 and the derived abundances indicate a slightly
metal-deficient evolved star with C/O<1. The observed P-Cygni profiles of
hydrogen and helium clearly indicate on-going post-AGB mass loss. The presence
of [N II] and [S II] lines and the non-detection of [O III] indicate that
photoionisation has just started. The observed spectral features, large
heliocentric radial velocity, atmospheric parameters, and chemical composition
indicate that I22023 is an evolved post-AGB star belonging to the old disk
population. The derived nebular parameters (Te=7000 K, Ne=1.2x104 cm-3) also
suggest that I22023 may be evolving into a compact, young low-excitation
Planetary Nebula. Our optical spectroscopic analysis together with the recent
Spitzer detection of double-dust chemistry (the simultaneous presence of
carbonaceous molecules and amorphous silicates) in I22023 and other B-type
post-AGB candidates may point to a binary system with a dusty disk as the
stellar origin common to the hot post-AGB stars with O-rich central stars.Comment: Accepted for publication in MNRAS (22 pages, 4 figures, and 8
