    Mineralogía del perfil de «La Muela», terciario del sector central de la Depresion del Ebro (provincia Zaragoza)

    The stratigraphic sequenre of «La Muela>., at the South (Central Sector) of the Ebro basin, is studied. This profile presents two difIerentiated uoits. The first one gypsum-bearing and the second one carbonatic, which correspond to the gypsum of Zaragoza and Alcubierre Cormations respectively. 80th units present a different mineralogical assofiation. The first one is characterized by gypsum, carbonates (calcite/dolomite), clay minerals and quartz, whereas in the second one the association is carbonates (calcite and/or dolomite), clay minerals and quartz. The clay minerals systematically present are: illite, smectites, chlorite and kaolinite. However, it is possible to observe an important quantitative change between both units, with a variation in the average of smectites from 23% to 46%. The variation in the molar content of MgCO3 in the carbonates has loo to propase a model of the chemical evolution on the vertical, in agreement with the sedimentologic analysis of the materials, which correspond to playa and lacustrine deposits.El perfil estratigráfico de La Muela, sector Sur de la Depresión del Ebro. Consta de dos tramos diferenciados, el primero rico en yeso y el segundo carbonatado, que corresponden respectivamente a las Formaciones Yesos de Zaragoza y Alcubierre. Ambos tramos presentan una asociación mineralógica distinta: el primero está caracterizado por yeso, carbonatos (calcita/dolomita), minerales de la arcilla y cuarzo, mientras que el segundo la asociación consta de carbonatos (calcita y/o dolomita), minerales de la arcilla y cuarzo. Los minerales de la arcilla presentes sistemáticamente son: ilita, esmectitas, clorita y caolinita. No obstante, se observa un importante cambio cuantitativo entre ambos tramos con una variación notable en el contenido en esmectitas, que en términos medios, es del 23 al 46%. La variación del contenido molar en CO3 Mg de los carbonatos ha permitido proponer un modelo de evolución química en la vertical, que se corresponde con el análisis sedimentológico de los materiales.     AbstractInconel 718 (IN718) is a nickel base alloy widely used in the aerospace industry due to its mechanical stability at elevated temperatures. Stable δ phase with acicular morphology weakens the IN718, however, it has been found that a spherical morphology distributed in the grain boundaries acts as an anchor preventing grain growth during hot deformation. The delta processing (DP718) is a saturation of δ phase in the alloy by thermal treatment followed by thermomechanical working to control the grain growth and morphology during deformation. Two specimens (A and B) of IN718 alloy were solubilized for 1h at 1100°C WQ and aging at 900°C for 24hWQ thermal treatment, following bythermomechanical deformation. Sample A was deformed at 0.001 s -1 and sample Bat 0.01 s-1, both deformations were carried out at 960°C and the final microstructures were characterized by optical microscopy and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) in order to evaluate morphology and grainsize distribution

    Traffic monitoring for assuring quality of advanced services in future internet

Increasing bandwidth is no longer a viable solution because of the business erosion for network operators which cannot expect revenues due to the large investments required to satisfy new applications demand of bandwidth. This paper presents devices and a specific architecture of services monitoring platform that allows network operators and service providers to analyze the perceived quality of service and check their service level agreements. Thus, a cost-effective service management, based on direct IP traffic measuring, can be supported on integrated monitoring systems to provide network-centric mechanisms for differentiated quality of service, security and other advanced services.This work has been partially developed in the framework of the Celtic and EUREKA initiative IPNQSIS (IP Network Monitoring for Quality of Service Intelligent Support)

    Cloritas dioctaédricas asociadas a piritas en metapelitas de la Sierra de los Cameros

    A mineralogical and dynamic-vibrational characterization of a dioctahedral chlorite associated with the Navajún pyrite in the Wealdian of Sierra de Los Cameros (La Rioja), was carried out. The chemical analysis by A.A. and XRF combined with those of punctual character (EDX) allow us to establish the following mean structural formula: (Si3,32 Al0,68) (Al3,78 Fe3+0,04 Mg,0,03Ca0,02 K0,03 Na0,03 Li1,04) O10 (OH)8 from XRD analysis the la-2 polytype was deduced as the most probable one. The most remarkable characteristics of the IR and Raman spectra, compared with those of the dioctahedral chlorites, correspond to the shift of the absorption band in rhe 1.000 cm-1 region and its greater complexity, both related with the Al content.Se realiza la caracterización mineralógica y dinámico-vibracional de una clorita dioctaédrica, asociada a los yacimientos de pirita de Navajún en el Wealdense de la Sierra de Los Cameros (La Rioja).     Follow-up with Telemedicine in Early Discharge for COPD Exacerbations: Randomized Clinical Trial (TELEMEDCOPD-Trial)

    The results reported by different studies on telemonitoring in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) have been contradictory, without showing clear benefits to date. The objective of this study was to ascertain whether an early discharge and home hospitalization telehealth program for patients with COPD exacerbation is as effective as and more efficient than a traditional early discharge and home hospitalization program. A prospective experimental non-inferiority study, randomized into two groups (telemedicine/control) was conducted. The telemedicine group underwent monitoring and was required to transmit data on vital constants and ECGs twice per day, with a subsequent telephone call and 2 home visits by healthcare staff (intermediate and at discharge). The control group received daily visits. The main variable was time until first exacerbation. The secondary variables were: number of exacerbations; use of healthcare resources; satisfaction; quality of life; anxiety-depression; and therapeutic adherence, measured at one and 6 months of hospital discharge. A total of 116 patients were randomized (58 to each group) without significant differences in baseline characteristics or time until first exacerbation, i.e. median 48 days (pp. 25-75:23-120) in the control group, and 47 days (pp. 25-75:19-102) in the intervention group; p = 0.52). A significant decrease in the number of visits was observed in the intervention versus the control group, 3.8 ± 1 vs 5.1 ± 2(p = 0.001), without significant differences in the number of exacerbations. In conclusion follow-up via a telemedicine program in early discharge after hospitalization is as effective as conventional home follow up, being the cost of either strategy not significantly different.This study was awarded a Health Research Fund (Fondo de Investigaciones Sanitarias/FIS) grant, dossier No. PI12/01161 of the Carlos III Institute of Health and the Ministry of Sciences, Innovation and Universities.S

Somatic gene rearrangements due to multiplication or deletion of genes (copy number variation) and/or sections of chromosomes can lead to mosaicism. The presence of multiple copies of the alpha-synuclein gene (SNCA) is known to be associated with Parkinson’s disease (PD) and the severity of symptoms increases with the number of copies of the gene [1]. While the features of PD associated with duplication of SNCA are usually (but not always) typical of the condition [2–3], patients with triplicate copies have atypical features, including rapidly evolving symptoms, severe cognitive impairment, limited response to levodopa, more severe symptoms of dementia and more..

    Survival of patients receiving a liver transplant for hepatocellular carcinoma, and risk of tumor recurrence

    Objective: the goal of this research has been to evaluate the survival, in long and short term, of the patient receiving liver transplant for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), the risk of posttransplant tumor relapse and factors related to this complication. Design: retrospective study of a consecutive series of patients having had liver transplant for HCC. Patients and methodology: transplant patients for HCC from 1989 to November 2003. Patients were selected due to general limitations of nodule size and quantity, which were subsequently published as Milan criteria. Also, criteria agreed in the Conference of Barcelona were followed in the pre-transplant diagnosis. Results: the survival of this 81 patients group was of the 80, 61 and 52% for 1, 5 and 10 years respectively. In the 32% of the cases the HCC was an incidental finding in the explant. In the 12.3%, the tumor relapse was verified. The multivariate research identified the size of the nodule (OR = 1,7944) (IC 95% = 1,1332-2,8413) and the vascular invasion (OR = 6,6346) (IC 95% = 1,4624-30,1003) as risk factors of relapse. Conclusions: the liver transplant in selected patients with HCC has good results in medium and long term. The risk of post-transplant tumor relapse becomes notably reduced and is associated with the size of the nodule and the microscopic vascular invasion

    The Guadiaro-Baños contourite drifts (SW Mediterranean). A geotechnical approach to stability analysis

    Two Quaternary plastered contourite drifts, with terraced and low-mounded morphologies, make up the continental slope and base-of-slope in the northwestern Alboran Sea, respectively, between the Guadiaro and Baños turbidite systems, close to the Strait of Gibraltar. Considering their significant lateral extent, the link between the contourite drift deposits and landslides may be particularly important for hazard assessment. The physical properties, composition and geometry of contourite drifts have been proposed as key factors in slope stability, although this relationship still needs to be better constrained. In this work, new in-situ geotechnical data (cone penetration tests; CPTu) has been combined with morphostratigraphic, sedimentological, and (laboratory) geotechnical properties to determine the stability of the Guadiaro-Baños drifts. For the depositional domains of both drifts, the resulting sedimentary and geotechnical model describes low-plasticity granular and silty sands on the erosive terraced domain that evolve seawards to silty and silty-clay deposits with a higher plasticity and uniform geomechanical properties. For the shallower coarse-grained contourite sediments, the cohesion (c') and internal friction angle (ϕ') values are 0–9 kPa and 46–30°, respectively, whereas for the distal fine contourites the undrained shear strength gradient (∇Su) is 2 kPa/m. These properties allow us to establish high factors of safety for all the scenarios considered, including seismic loading. Slope failure may be triggered in the unlikely event that there is seismic acceleration of PGA > 0.19, although no potential glide planes have been observed within the first 20 m below the seafloor. This suggests that the contourite drifts studied tend to resist failure better than others with similar sedimentary characteristics. The interplay of several processes is proposed to explain the enhanced undrained shear strength: 1) the geometry of the drifts, defined by an upper contouritic terrace and lower low-mounded shapes; 2) recurrent low-intensity earthquakes with insufficient energy to trigger landslides, favouring increased strength due to dynamic compaction; and 3) cyclic loading induced by solitons/internal waves acting on the sediment.En prens

    Sur8, a determinant protein in colorectal cancer tumor progression

    Resumen del trabajo presentado en el 43rd Annual Meeting of the SEBBM, celebrado en Barcelona (España) del 19 al 21 de julio de 2021.Colorectal cancer (CRC) has the highest incidence rate in the Spanish population. The most important challenge consists on the discovery of efficient disease treatments, due to high mortality rates in highly developed stages. Sur8 is a scaffold protein that positively modulates ERK signaling pathway, which has a major role in the progression and metastasis in colorectal cancer. The main goals of our research are to determine the role that Sur8 plays in the development and progression of CRC and to analyze its possible therapeutic potential. For this purpose, our group has developed an inducible conditional mouse model msur8f/fVillinCreERT2. In order to determine Sur8 action in the colonic tissue, we have developed organoids from the colon epithelium of healthy mice and have analyzed gene expression pattern by an RNAseq approach. Sur8 KO affects oncogenic CRC transcription factors expression, as well as the modulation of some Wnt pathway regulators. In regard to miRNA data, we have observed deregulation of miRNAs related to CRC in Sur8 KO organoids. To determine the role that Sur8 plays in the development and progression of CRC, we have subjected our inducible conditional mice to chemical carcinogenesis and we have observed that Sur8 KO males display less and smaller tumors and do not present any adenocarcinoma. In addition, we have carried out Sur8 silencing in human CRC cell lines by infection with constitutive shRNA lentiviruses. We have observed that Sur8 silencing produces decreases of cell tumor proliferation, and reduction of p-ERK levels. Finally, we are evaluating the effects of putative therapeutic agents against Sur8 in human CRC cell lines. Concretely, we are testing Celastrol, which has been described that binds and blocks the action of Sur8 in vitro. We have observed that Celastrol treatment diminishes the cell tumor proliferation in this model. Altogether, our results indicate that Sur8 may have a determinant role in CRC progression and that Sur8 could be a potential molecular target for the design of novel strategies against CRC
