    Distribution of amiodarone and desethylamiodarone in a patient with acute myocardial infarction after intravenous administration

    The autopsy tissues concentration of amiodarone and desethylamiodarone of a man with acute myocardial infarction treated acutely with intravenous amiodarone is reported. Our data indicate that amiodarone is quickly distributed into all highly perfused tissues after intravenous administration with a high amiodarone/desethylamiodarone ratio. We also report here the autopsy case of a woman who died after 30 days of oral therapy with amiodarone. The increase in heart/plasma ratio of amiodarone and desethylamiodarone concentrations and the decrease in amiodarone/desethylamiodarone ratio after one month of therapy could explain the latency in the antiarrhythmic action of the drug

    BRST Detour Quantization

    We present the BRST cohomologies of a class of constraint (super) Lie algebras as detour complexes. By giving physical interpretations to the components of detour complexes as gauge invariances, Bianchi identities and equations of motion we obtain a large class of new gauge theories. The pivotal new machinery is a treatment of the ghost Hilbert space designed to manifest the detour structure. Along with general results, we give details for three of these theories which correspond to gauge invariant spinning particle models of totally symmetric, antisymmetric and K\"ahler antisymmetric forms. In particular, we give details of our recent announcement of a (p,q)-form K\"ahler electromagnetism.     Fronteiras permeáveis: movimento de cautivos no espaço santafecino

    En este trabajo abordamos las distintas estrategias de interacción elaboradas entre hispanocriollos e indígenas –charrúas, mocovíes y abipones– en el contexto santafesino durante los siglos xvii y xviii, tomando como eje de análisis la circulación de cautivos hacia uno y otro lado de las fronteras. Partimos de considerar a la ciudad de Santa Fe como un centro de interacción, cuyas fronteras se delinearon por medio de las intensas y fluidas relaciones con los diversos grupos nativos a lo largo del tiempo, fomentando complejos procesos de intercambios y mestizajes. Asimismo, señalamos la necesidad de considerar a las fronteras santafesinas como un espacio integrado, un complejo fronterizo cuyo desarrollo histórico apunta a la interacción y análisis conjunto del frente chaqueño y la “otra banda” del Río Paraná. Finalmente, abordamos la problemática de los cautivos como dispositivos de mediación entre diferentes grupos étnicos, capaces de vehiculizar potenciales intercambios económicos, políticos, diplomáticos y simbólicos que fueron fundamentales en el desarrollo histórico de las relaciones de fronteras de Santa Fe.Neste trabalho estudamos as diferentes estratégias de interação construídas entre hispano-crioulos e índios –charrúas, mocovíes y abipones– no contexto santafecino durante os séculos xvii e xviii, considerando como eixo de analise o movimento de cautivos nos dois lados da fronteira. Nosso ponto de partida estabelece a cidade de Santa Fe como um centro de interação cujas fronteiras se delinearam por meio das intensas e fluidas relações com os diversos grupos nativos ao longo do tempo, criando complexos processos de intercambio e mestiçagem. Finalmente, abordamos a problemática dos cautivos como dispositivos de mediação entre diferentes grupos étnicos capazes de produzir potenciais intercâmbios econômicos, políticos, diplomáticos e simbólicos que foram fundamentais no desenvolvimento histórico das relações nas de fronteiras de Santa Fe.This paper addresses the different strategies of interaction developed between Spaniards and native peoples –Charrúas, Mocovies, and Abipones– in the context of the city of Santa Fe during the 17th and 18th centuries, considering the circulation of captives to either side of the city’s border as a central topic. The article begins by considering the city of Santa Fe as a center of interaction, whose borders were delineated through intense and fluid relations with the various native groups over time, fostering complex processes of exchange and interethnic mixing. In addition, it highlights the borders of Santa Fe as an integrated space, a frontier complex whose historical development points to the interaction and joint analysis of the Chaco frontier and the “other band” of the Paraná River. Finally, it addresses the issue of captives as intermediaries between different ethnic groups, capable of mobilizing economic, political, diplomatic, and symbolic exchanges, each of them instrumental in the historical development of border relations in Santa Fe

    Osteopontin as Candidate Biomarker of Coronary Disease despite Low Cardiovascular Risk: Insights from CAPIRE Study

    Stratification according high cardiovascular (CV) risk categories, still represents a clinical challenge. In this analysis of the CAPIRE study (NCT02157662), we investigate whether inflammation could fit between CV risk factors (RFs) and the presence of coronary artery disease (CAD). In total, 544 patients were included and categorized according with the presence of CAD and CV risk factor burden (low/multiple). The primary endpoint was to verify any independent association of neutrophil-related biomarkers with CAD across CV risk categories. The highest values of osteo-pontin (OPN) were detected in the low RF group and associated with CAD (23.2 vs. 19.4 ng/mL; p = 0.001), although no correlation with plaque extent and/or composition were observed. Con-versely, myeloperoxidase (MPO) and resistin did not differ by CAD presence. Again, OPN was identified as independent variable associated with CAD but only in the low RF group (adjOR 8.42 [95% CI 8.42\u201346.83]; p-value = 0.015). As an ancillary finding, a correlation linked OPN with the neutrophil degranulation biomarker MPO (r = 0.085; p = 0.048) and resistin (r = 0.177; p = 3.4 7 10 125 ). In the present study, OPN further strengthens its role as biomarker of CAD, potentially bridging subclinical CV risk with development of atherosclerosis

    Experimental evidence for the beneficial effects on heart failure of chronic treatment with ACE inhibitors accumulated from early 1980 in experimental models of LV dysfunction secondary to AMI. These studies demonstrated an improvement in hemodynamics, LV remodeling, and mortality with ACE inhibitor treatment. The effect of ACE inhibitors during the acute phase of AMI was less clear, although there was evidence of protection from ischemic damage, possibly mediated by an increase in collateral coronary blood flow

    A Single-Center Retrospective Analysis of 14 Head and Neck AVMs Cases Treated with a Single-Day Combined Endovascular and Surgical Approach

    Arteriovenous malformations (AVMs) are rare congenital defects of vascular development whose treatment remains challenging. The paper presents a retrospective single-center study of 14 patients with AVMs of the head and neck region undergoing combined endovascular and surgical treatment in a single day. AVM architecture and therapeutic strategies were determined on the basis of angiographic studies, while the psychological involvement of each patient was assessed by means of a questionnaire. Most of the 14 patients achieved satisfactory clinical results with no recurrences, good aesthetic and functional results, and most patients reported improved quality of life. The combined endovascular and surgical approach is an effective treatment for AVMs of the head and neck and performing it on the same day is a possible option often accepted by patients which guarantees operative advantages for the surgeon

    Dynamic MRI evaluation of urethral hypermobility post‐radical prostatectomy

    Aims One postulated cause of post‐prostatectomy incontinence is urethral and bladder neck hypermobility. The objective of this study was to determine the magnitude of anatomical differences of urethral and bladder neck position at rest and with valsalva in continent and incontinent men post‐prostatectomy based on dynamic MRI. Methods All subjects underwent a dynamic MRI protocol with valsalva and non‐valsalva images and a standard urodynamic evaluation. MRI measurements were taken at rest and with valsalva, including (1) bladder neck to sacrococcygeal inferior pubic point line (SCIPP), (2) urethra to pubis, and (3) bulbar urethra to SCIPP. Data were analyzed in SAS using two‐tailed t tests. Results A total of 21 subjects (13 incontinent and 8 continent) had complete data and were included in the final analysis. The two groups had similar demographic characteristics. On MRI, there were no statistically significant differences in anatomic position of the bladder neck or urethra either at rest or with valsalva. The amount of hypermobility ranged from 0.8 to 2 mm in all measures. There were also no differences in the amount of hypermobility (position at rest minus position at valsalva) between groups. Conclusions We found no statistically significant differences in bladder neck and urethral position or mobility on dynamic MRI evaluation between continent and incontinent men status post‐radical prostatectomy. A more complex mechanism for post‐prostatectomy incontinence needs to be modeled in order to better understand the continence mechanism in this select group of men. Neurourol.     Vertical Greenery as Natural Tool for Improving Energy Efficiency of Buildings

    The European Construction Sector Observatory outlined that green building envelopes as green roofs and walls contribute to the reduction of energy demand and CO2 emissions due to the air conditioning in summer periods, and the mitigation of heat islands in urban areas. For this reason, the understanding about the contribution of urban greening infrastructures on buildings to sustainable energy use for air conditioning is urgent. This paper focuses on the analysis of a vertical surface provided with a Parthenocissus quinquefolia (L.) Planch., a winter deciduous species, as green cover of a building, assessing the reduction of the solar radiation energy absorbed by the facade and, consequently, the heat flux (HF) transmitted into the internal ambient. This research shows that, in July, surface temperatures (STs) on the vegetated facade were up to 13 degrees C lower than on the unvegetated (bare) facade. Under the climate and environmental conditions of the green wall located at ENEA Casaccia Research Center, a saving of 2.22 and 1.94 kWh(e)/m(2) , respectively in 2019 and 2020, for the summer cooling electricity load, was achieved. These energy reductions also allowed the saving of 985 and 862 g CO2/m(2) emissions, respectively, in 2019 and 2020. Ultimately, a green factor named K-v* was also elaborated to evaluate the influence of vegetation on the STs as well as on HFs transmitted into the indoor ambient and adapted to the case of a detached vertical green cover. Measurements of K-v* factor lasting three years showed the suitability of this index for defining the shading capacity of the vegetation on the building facade surfaces, which can be used to predict thermal gains and effects in a building endowed of a vertical green system
