    Evaluation of artificial feeds for shrimp (Penaeus monodon) production in brackishwater ponds

    Abstract only.The experiment was conducted in fifteen 500-m2 brackishwater ponds to determine the response of Penaeus monodon juveniles fed with various artificial diets. Five treatments with three replicates each were: two commercial feeds containing 45% and 40% crude protein (treatments I and II), two experimental diets formulated to contain 35% crude protein (treatments III and IV) and control, without feeding (treatment V). Shrimp were fed twice daily at feeding rates based on shrimp consumption. Highest mean harvest weight was attained in treatment I (23.47 g) > III (19.25 g) > II (18.86 g) > IV (11.29 g) > V (9.27 g). Statistical analysis showed that differences in growth were significant at 5% probability level. However, growth in treatments I, II and III are comparable, also growth in treatments II, III and IV. Growth in treatments I, II, III and IV was significantly different from treatment V. Highest mean survival was attained in treatment III (91.82%) > I (88.93%) > II (86.95%) > IV (83.62%) V (82.62%). Statistical analysis showed no significant differences among treatments at 5% probability level. Projecting on a hectare basis, mean yield for each treatment was: I (628.37 kg) > II (496.35 kg) per crop in 120 days culture. Good yield was attributed to provision of formulated feeds, use of pumps in addition to tidal change for water exchange and control of predators, and pest eradication through proper pond preparation

Roiter, Representations of finite-dimensional algebras. Encyclopaedia of Math. Sci., vol. 73, Algebra 8, Springer-Verlag, 1992] an analogous hypothesis was formulated for finitely spaced modules over an aggregate. We prove this conjecture.Comment: 17 page

    Radiative transition rates and collision strengths for Si II

    Aims. This work reports radiative transition rates and electron impact excitation collision strengths for levels of the 3s23p, 3s3p2, 3s24s, and 3s23d configurations of Siii. Methods. The radiative data were computed using the Thomas-Fermi-Dirac-Amaldi central potential, but with the modifications introduced by Bautista (2008) that account for the effects of electron-electron interactions. We also introduce new schemes for the optimization of the variational parameters of the potential. Additional calculations were carried out with the Relativistic Hartree-Fock and the multiconfiguration Dirac-Fock methods. Collision strengths in LS-coupling were calculated in the close coupling approximation with the R-matrix method. Then, fine structure collision strengths were obtained by means of the intermediate-coupling frame transformation (ICFT) method which accounts for spin-orbit coupling effects. Results. We present extensive comparisons between the results of different approximations and with the most recent calculations and experiment available in the literature. From these comparisons we derive a recommended set of gf- values and radiative transition rates with their corresponding estimated uncertainties. We also study the effects of different approximations in the representation of the target ion on the electron-impact collision strengths. Our most accurate set of collision strengths were integrated over a Maxwellian distribution of electron energies and the resulting effective collision strengths are given for a wide range of temperatures. Our results present significant differences from recent calculations with the B-spline non-orthogonal R-matrix method.     BAL Outflow Contribution to AGN Feedback: Frequency of S iv Outflows in the SDSS

    We present a study of Broad Absorption Line (BAL) quasar outflows that show S IV ?1063 and S IV* ?1073 troughs. The fractional abundance of S IV and C IV peak at similar value of the ionization parameter, implying that they arise from the same physical component of the outflow. Detection of the S IV* troughs will allow us to determine the distance to this gas with higher resolution and higher signal-to-noise spectra, therefore providing the distance and energetics of the ubiquitous C IV BAL outflows. In our bright sample of 156 SDSS quasars 14% show C IV and 1.9% S IV troughs, which is consistent with a fainter magnitude sample with twice as many objects. One object in the fainter sample shows evidence of a broad S IV trough without any significant trough present from the excited state line, which implies that this outflow could be at a distance of several kpc. Given the fractions of C IV and S IV, we establish firm limits on the global covering factor on S IV that ranges from 2.8% to 21% (allowing for the k-correction). Comparison of the expected optical depth for these ions with their detected percentage suggests that these species arise from common outflows with a covering factor closer to the latter.Comment: Published in ApJ (2012 ApJ, 750, 143

    Radiation Damping in the Photoionization of Fe^{14+}

    A theoretical investigation of photoabsorption and photoionization of Fe^{14+} extending beyond an earlier frame transformation R-matrix implementation is performed using a fully-correlated, Breit-Pauli R-matrix formulation including both fine-structure splitting of strongly-bound resonances and radiation damping. The radiation damping of 2pnd2p\rightarrow nd resonances gives rise to a resonant photoionization cross section that is significantly lower than the total photoabsorption cross section. Furthermore, the radiation-damped photoionization cross section is found to be in good agreement with recent experimental results once a global shift in energy of 3.5\approx -3.5 eV is applied. These findings have important implications. Firstly, the presently available synchrotron experimental data are applicable only to photoionization processes and not to photoabsorption; the latter is required in opacity calculations. Secondly, our computed cross section, for which the L-shell ionization threshold is aligned with the NIST value, shows a series of 2pnd2p \rightarrow nd Rydberg resonances that are uniformly 3-4 eV higher in energy than the corresponding experimental profiles, indicating that the L-shell threshold energy values currently recommended by NIST are likely in error.Comment: 4 pages, 1 figures, and 2 table

    Updated opacities from the opacity project

    Using the code autostructure, extensive calculations of inner-shell atomic data have been made for the chemical elements He, C, N, O, Ne, Na, Mg, Al, Si, S, Ar, Ca, Cr, Mn, Fe and Ni. The results are used to obtain updated opacities from the Opacity Project (OP). A number of other improvements on earlier work have also been included. Rosseland-mean opacities from the OP are compared with those from OPAL. Differences of 5-10 per cent occur. The OP gives the 'Z-bump', at log(T) 5.2, to be shifted to slightly higher temperatures. The opacities from the OP, as functions of temperature and density, are smoother than those from OPAL. The accuracy of the integrations used to obtain mean opacities can depend on the frequency mesh used. Tests involving variation of the numbers of frequency points show that for typical chemical mixtures the OP integrations are numerically correct to within 0.1 per cent. The accuracy of the interpolations used to obtain mean opacities for any required values of temperature and density depends on the temperature-density meshes used. Extensive tests show that, for all cases of practical interest, the OP interpolations give results correct to better than 1 per cent. Prior to a number of recent investigations which have indicated a need for downward revisions in the solar abundances of oxygen and other elements, there was good agreement between properties of the Sun deduced from helioseismology and from stellar evolution models calculated using OPAL opacities. The revisions destroy that agreement. In a recent paper, Bahcall et al. argue that the agreement would be restored if opacities for the regions of the Sun with 2 × 106T 5 × 106 K (0.7-0.4 R) were larger than those given by OPAL by about 10 per cent. In the region concerned, the present results from the OP do not differ from those of OPAL by more than 2.5 per cent

    Es importante poder identificar a los recién nacidos que presenta RCIU ya que el 28,6% presentaron hipoglicemia, la cual si no es manejada adecuadamente puede presentar secuelas neurológicas a largo plazo. Como único dato estadísticamente significativo encontramos que los recién nacidos con RCIU hijos de madre con STORCH presentaron RCIU simétrico, por lo tanto se debe hacer énfasis en un adecuado control prenatal. Los recién nacidos con RCIU hijos de madre con preeclampsia tiene mayor riesgo de presentar complicaciones en el periodo neonatal. Es necesario continuar con esta línea de investigación ya que estos pacientes tienen riesgo metabólico a mediano y a largo plaz
