Neuropsychologiczna analiza funkcjonowania poznawczego po zabiegu lewostronnej hemisferektomii w przebiegu zespołu Rasmussena — opis przypadku
Zespół Rasmussena jest postępującym zapaleniem mózgu o nieznanej etiologii. Prawdopodobne podłoże choroby to infekcja wirusowa i związana z nią wtórna odpowiedź autoimmunologiczna. Wyraźna poprawa funkcjonowania w zakresie wszystkich modalności poznawczych, w tym ekspresji językowej, umożliwiła powrót pacjentki do środowiska rówieśniczego i edukacji szkolnej

New drugs for the treatment of hyperlipidemia in statin-intolerant patients - review
Introduction
Cardiovascular diseases are the most numerous group of diseases prevalent in the world. They are a challenge for many health systems, in terms of keeping life comfortable and also economics. The cause of selected disease entities is too much cholesterol in the blood. The most popular treatment for hypercholesterolemia is based on statins. Many patients are affected by intolerance to these drugs, so an important issue is the discovery and improvement of alternatives to statins.
Purpose of work
The purpose of this review is to collect literature data on the latest treatments for hypercholesterolemia with drugs other than statins and ezetimibe.
Materials and methods
Materials are from a review of recent literature available in PubMed. To search for articles, we used keywords such as: bempedoic acid, non-statin therapy, cardiovascular risk, inclisiran, alirocumab, cardiovascular disease, dyslipidemia, evolocumab.
Summary
Treatment of hypercholesterolemia with statins remains the most popular management strategy. Intolerance to treatment with these drugs creates serious clinical problems for patients. Recently, we could see the emergence of new drugs as alternatives to statins. As the results show, the new drugs can effectively replace statins in the hypolipemic treatment especially of patients who cannot be treated with them
Aβ5−xPeptides: N‑Terminal Truncation Yields Tunable Cu(II)Complexes
The Aβ5−x peptides (x = 38, 40, 42) are minor Aβ species in normal brains but elevated upon the application of inhibitors of Aβ processing enzymes. They are interesting from the point of view of coordination chemistry for the presence of an Arg-His metal binding sequence at their N-terminus capable of forming a 3-nitrogen (3N) three-coordinate chelate system. Similar sequences in other bioactive peptides were shown to bind Cu(II) ions in biological systems. Therefore, we investigated Cu(II) complex formation and reactivity of a series of truncated Aβ5−x peptide models comprising the metal binding site: Aβ5−9, Aβ5−12, Aβ5−12Y10F, and Aβ5−16. Using CD and UV−vis spectroscopies and potentiometry, we found that all peptides coordinated the Cu(II) ion with substantial affinities higher than 3 × 1012 M−1 at pH 7.4 for Aβ5−9 and Aβ5−12. This affinity was elevated 3-fold in Aβ5−16 by the formation of the internal macrochelate with the fourth coordination site occupied by the imidazole nitrogen of the His13 or His14 residue. A much higher boost of affinity could be achieved in Aβ5−9 and Aβ5−12 by adding appropriate amounts of the external imidazole ligand. The 3N Cu-Aβ5−x complexes
could be irreversibly reduced to Cu(I) at about −0.6 V vs Ag/AgCl and oxidized to Cu(III) at about 1.2 V vs Ag/AgCl. The internal or external imidazole coordination to the 3N core resulted in a slight destabilization of the Cu(I) state and stabilization of the Cu(III) state. Taken together these results indicate that Aβ5−x peptides, which bind Cu(II) ions much more strongly than Aβ1−x peptides and only slightly weaker than Aβ4−x peptides could interfere with Cu(II) handling by these peptides, adding to copper dyshomeostasis in Alzheimer brains
Actions to strengthen the contribution of small farms and small food businesses to food security in Europe
This study stems from a participatory foresight exercise conducted in nine Mediterranean, Baltic, Nordic and Eastern European regions, aiming to strengthen the role of small farms and small food businesses in ensuring food security. A wide range of stakeholders participated by attending workshops. They represented farmers’ organisations, food businesses, consumers’ organisations, NGOs, researchers, extension services, professional groups, and administration and public bodies. The actions proposed by participants are scanned and categorised around six broad objectives, stakeholders’ priorities and their underlying beliefs and preconceptions are discussed around the current debates of the literature, and the drivers that influence the feasibility of the proposed actions are discussed. Furthermore, the alignment of stakeholders’ -driven objectives with the European Strategies on food, agriculture, and rural areas is examined, with a focus on: (i) the EU Farm to Fork Strategy, (ii) the Rural Action Plan contained in the Long-Term Vision of Rural Areas developed by the EU Commission, and (iii) the Common Agricultural Policy in force since January 2023
State interventionism in agriculture - rationale, goals, conditions
The paper presents justification of the state interventionism in agriculture. It discusses selected reasons, conditions and goals that have a determining influence on the state’s active involvement in the agricultural sector. Interventionism in agriculture is an element of the economic process that enables the agriculture to fulfil certain functions. Multifaceted analysis of the outcomes of intervening in agriculture has long been generating legitimate questions about the basis, effectiveness, form and scope of such measures. The paper presents the main arguments in favour of the need to continue an active and comprehensive state intervention in economic processes with regards to agriculture
Personal experience of the Holocaust in the prose of Hilda Hrabovecká ,,Hand with tatooed number ''
Niniejsza praca pt. As stated in the title of this work "Personal experiences from the Holocaust in the prose of Hilda Hrabovecká Hand with a tattooed number'', this thesis concerns the Holocaust, which is associated, among others, with the Auschwitz concentration camp (Oświęcim). The interpretation of Hilda Hrabovecká's prose is based on the book Hand with a tattooed number, which was written in 1998 and is undeniable evidence of evil in a concentration cam
Secondary school youth and the idea of sustainable development - opinions and attitudes
The main aim of the paper was to systematize the opinions and attitudes of school youth towards the idea of sustainable development. The research was conducted between 2016 and 2017 in Lesser Poland Province. The data was gathered in two ways: by handing out printed questionnaire forms among secondary school students and by distributing the forms in an electronic form among school youth. Taking into account the type of school, education profile and year in a school, responses to questions about the knowledge of the concept of sustainable development, the associations it brings to the mind and the need to implement it were analysed. The data was processed using pivot tables prepared in Microsoft Excel spreadsheet. The survey results pointed out marginalisation of the issues of sustainable development in secondary education: students rarely encountered this term (both in their life and education) and were unable to provide its proper definition. The respondents most often associated the term “sustainable development” with social justice and environmental protection. Due to educational gaps, the majority of the respondents did not know whether sustainable development was needed
IDEA ROZWOJU ZRÓWNOWAŻONEGO W OPINIACH I POSTAWACH ROLNIKÓW
