Compactability and mechanical properties of cold recycled mixes prepared with different nominal maximum sizes of RAP
Financiado para publicación en acceso aberto: Universidade da Coruña/CISUG[Abstract:] The use of cold recycled asphalt mixtures (CRM) has been soaring during recent years. Reclaimed Asphalt Pavement (RAP) is the main component of CRM, and despite the numerous studies on CRM, the impact of different RAP types has not been deeply studied. This study compares the volumetric and several mechanical properties of CRM prepared with RAP from two different sources and with various nominal maximum sizes (NMS). The mix design was fixed, and specimens were prepared using gyratory and impact compactors. Densities were measured before and after accelerated curing. Stiffness of CRM was investigated with Indirect Tensile Stiffness Modulus, tension–compression, and dynamic tests. Additionally, the cracking behavior was evaluated with Indirect Tensile Strength and Semi-Circular Bending tests. The particle size distribution was a key factor in the compactability of the CRMs studied. Together with temperature, the most influential factor on the studied mechanical properties was the air void content, while the differences in NMS showed no clear trends.Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación; BIA2016-80317-RMinisterio de Ciencia e Innovación; BES-2017-07963
Measurement of the hyperfine splitting of the 6S level in rubidium
We present a measurement of the hyperfine splitting of the 6S excited
level of rubidium using two photon absorption spectroscopy in a glass cell. The
values we obtain for the magnetic dipole constant A are 239.18(03) MHz and
807.66(08) MHz for Rb and Rb, respectively. The combination of
the magnetic moments of the two isotopes and our measurements show a hyperfine
anomaly in this atomic excited state. The observed hyperfine anomaly difference
has a value of due to the finite distribution of
nuclear magnetization, the Bohr-Weisskopf effect.Comment: 12 pages, 14 figure
Football has a special place in the range of physical and sporting activities in the U8 age bracket which supplement formal education. The training style of teams in this scenario impacts the comprehensive development of their players. This study explores the training style to optimise the educational potential of institutionalised proposals in U8 football. An ethnographic case study design is presented using participant observation methodology along with qualitative image data in two football teams for seven-year-olds as an additional technique. The results highlight the inherence of a team identity based on team-building, cooperation and individuality; the use of a strategy to achieve victory; the need for discipline undertaken by family members; and the use of endemic jargon. The study concludes with five proposals aimed at optimising U8 football to enhance its educational potential for children through cooperation, fostering personalised training opportunities and adult exemplification
Quadrature and polarization squeezing in a dispersive optical bistability model
We theoretically study quadrature and polarization squeezing in dispersive
optical bistability through a vectorial Kerr cavity model describing a
nonlinear cavity filled with an isotropic chi(3) medium in which self-phase and
cross-phase modulation, as well as four--wave mixing, occur. We derive
expressions for the quantum fluctuations of the output field quadratures as a
function of which we express the spectrum of fluctuations of the output field
Stokes parameters. We pay particular attention to study how the bifurcations
affecting the non-null linearly polarized output mode squeezes the orthogonally
polarized vacuum mode, and show how this produces polarization squeezing.Comment: 10 text pages + 12 figure
Messaging performance of FIPA interaction protocols in networked embedded controllers
Agent-based technologies in production control systems could facilitate seamless reconfiguration and integration of mechatronic devices/modules into systems. Advances in embedded controllers which are continuously improving computational capabilities allow for software modularization and distribution of decisions. Agent platforms running on embedded controllers could hide the complexity of bootstrap and communication. Therefore, it is important to investigate the messaging performance of the agents whosemainmotivation is the resource allocation in manufacturing systems (i.e., conveyor system). The tests were implemented using the FIPA-compliant JADE-LEAP agent platform. Agent containers were distributed through networked embedded controllers, and agents were communicating using request and contract-net FIPA interaction protocols. The test scenarios are organized in intercontainer and intracontainer communications. The work shows the messaging performance for the different test scenarios using both interaction protocols
Adolescence is a life stage characterized by change and the transition to adulthood. Multidisciplinary approaches have focused their interest in adolescence due to its endemic and generational characteristics. The adolescent's motivation to develop self-determined action plans emerges as a cornerstone in the construction of its identity and its lifeprojection. A systematized review research design is applied, which is developed from two objectives: to understand the phenomenon of motivation in adolescence and the different approaches that have been taken to promote their self-determination, and to optimize opportunities for accompaniment in the construction of life projects. The premises of the PRISMA statement are considered to analyze twenty articles, whose results highlight the interest in supporting adolescent autonomy, the satisfaction of their psychological needs for their subjective well-being, whichis structured from the sense of authenticity, and decision making from self-regulation and the influence of the environment. Academic performance emerges as a systemic key of interest that contextualizes and affects life projects. The practical applications focus on early adolescence and take into account the need to promote competencies for self-regulation and internalization of adolescent motivation. Psychological support for self-determination requires empathy with the adolescent, their situations, and prescribes a constructive evaluation of their experiences
Clinical and social profile of patients with pulmonary tuberculosis in Reynosa, Tamaulipas
Background: Tuberculosis is an infectious disease caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis. It generally causes pulmonary tuberculosis, with symptoms such as fever and expectoration. In 2020, the total number of tuberculosis cases worldwide was about 9.8 million, with a mortality of 1.5 million. In Mexico, pulmonary tuberculosis represents 79% of the total cases of tuberculosis, with an incidence of 24 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. Tamaulipas ranks fifth nationally. This study seeks to determine the frequency in which social and risk factors associated with predisposition to tuberculosis occur in the population of Reynosa, Tamaulipas.
Methods: Through an observational and descriptive study, data were collected from patients with active pulmonary tuberculosis belonging to the Regional Center Against Tuberculosis in Reynosa, Tamaulipas. Data collection was carried out from February to May 2022 through the clinical history of the unit. Those patients in fully cured condition and those who presented negative smear microscopy during this period were excluded.
Results: In the February-May period, 50 records of patients with pulmonary tuberculosis were included, where 58% were men, with a mean age of 38.4 years ± 16.6 DE, 56% of the participants were from the state of Tamaulipas, followed by Veracruz and San Luis Potosí with 22% and 4% respectively. The predominant level of education was middle school (23.5%), followed by complete elementary school, while the occupation that prevailed was unemployed (41.2%) followed by housewife (21.6%). Among the frequent symptoms were productive cough (89.8%) and fever (65.3%). Of the comorbidities present, diabetes mellitus stood out with 26%, while in the addictions we found alcoholism (25.7%) in the first place.
Conclusions: The importance of describing the social and clinical situation of patients with tuberculosis lies in the identification of risk factors that can be considered in the development of strategies focused on the clinical manifestations of our region
Two-Photon Dichroic Atomic Vapor Laser Lock Using Electromagnetically Induced Transparency and Absorption
We demonstrate a technique to lock the frequency of a laser to a transition
between two excited states in Rb vapor in the presence of a weak magnetic
field. We use a ladder configuration from specific hyperfine sublevels of the
5S 1/2, 5P 3/2, and 5D 5/2 levels. This atomic configuration can show
Electromagnetically Induced Transparency and Absorption processes. The error
signal comes from the difference in the transparency or absorption felt by the
two orthogonal polarizations of the probe beam. A simplified model is in good
quantitative agreement with the observed signals for the experimental
parameters. We have used this technique to lock the frequency of the laser up
to 1.5 GHz off atomic resonance.Comment: 6 pages, 8 figures. Last version for publication in J. Opt. Soc. Am.
