Application of LANDSAT imagery for snow mapping in Norway

    Get PDF
The author has identified the following significant results. It was shown that if the snow cover extent was determined from all four LANDSAT bands, there were significant differences in results. The MSS 4 gave the largest snow cover, but only slightly more than MSS 5, whereas MSS 6 and 7 gave the smallest snow area. A study was made to show that there was a relationship between the last date of snow fall and the area covered with snow, as determined from different bands. Imagery obtained shortly after a snow fall showed no significant difference in the snow-covered area when the four bans were compared, whereas, pronounced differences in the snow-covered area were found in images taken after a long period without precipitation

The Impacts of Mastery Experiences, Vicarious Learning, and Role Models on Engineering Self-Efficacy in Middle School Students

    Get PDF
This action research study worked to determine how mastery experience, vicarious learning, and expert role models impacted the engineering self-efficacy of 113 6th grade science students. The students participated in a 3-week unit designing toy cars in small groups with lessons planned to improve their self-efficacy. The students were surveyed before and after the unit to show how their efficacy changed. They also completed an exit ticket to reflect on the unit and were observed as they worked with their peers to document examples of verbal self-efficacy. The study results indicated that the strategies used were successful in improving engineering self-efficacy

Application of satellite data for snow mapping in Norway

    Get PDF
The author has identified the following significant results. A close quantitative relationship was found between snow covered areas and subsequent runoff for different parts of the country despite climate differences. Digital LANDSAT data can be used for areas down to approximately 10 sq km to 20 sq km for accurate measurement of snow cover extent. On large watersheds (more than 500 sq km), digital NOAA/TIROS imagery can be used for snow mapping if the area/runoff relationship is determined by using observations from previous years

    Transportation and handling loads

    Get PDF
Criteria and recommended practices are presented for the prediction and verification of transportation and handling loads for the space vehicle structure and for monitoring these loads during transportation and handling of the vehicle or major vehicle segments. Elements of the transportation and handling systems, and the forcing functions and associated loads are described. The forcing functions for common carriers and typical handling devices are assessed, and emphasis is given to the assessment of loads at the points where the space vehicle is supported during transportation and handling. Factors which must be considered when predicting the loads include the transportation and handling medium; type of handling fixture; transport vehicle speed; types of terrain; weather (changes in pressure of temperature, wind, etc.); and dynamics of the transportation modes or handling devices (acceleration, deceleration, and rotations of the transporter or handling device)

Interactive Telehealth Video Visits: A New Age for OSCEs

    Get PDF
Healthcare in New Mexico is changing with the authorization of insurance reimbursement for telehealth. In order to prepare graduates to provide this care the College of Nursing has added video visit simulations to our Objective Structured Clinical Evaluation (OSCE) program. OSCEs have been extensively used in health science undergraduate and graduate programs across the country, demonstrating a high correlation with actual clinical skills and are crucial in the preparation of competent providers. Scarcity of suitable clinical sites, the high cost of faculty-led site visits, and the variability of clinical experiences create barriers for equitable evaluation of clinical performance. These challenges have prompted innovative clinical evaluations of students in remote sites. A standardized evaluation tool was developed to facilitate consistent assessment. The Focused Assessment of Clinically Targeted Skills (FACTS) checklist provides standardization of evaluation and feedback. The FACTS evaluation tool has been used for direct clinical observation and all OSCE experiences leveling the playing field for consistent student evaluation. This presentation will outline the planning, coordination, implementation, and standardized student evaluation used during video visit OSCEs at the University of New Mexico, College of Nursing
