Best Practices of Honor Societies

Academic honor societies are widely available within university communities. These student organizations can fill valuable roles within engineering departments. The inception of engineering-related honor societies followed the establishment of engineering education within American universities. Honor societies with their student focus grew as complementary organizations to the professional societies for engineering disciplines. The national or international structure of honor societies generally provides considerable resources for professional education, leadership training, and service activity. For departments, an honor society chapter can provide engagement with students, alumni, community, etc. However, the existence of an honor society chapter at an institution does not necessarily mean that the chapter is effectively serving the host department(s) and its engineering students. This paper describes commonalities among engineering honor societies, the possible roles of an honor society within an engineering department, and some best practices for effective honor society chapters. Specific examples from the operation of IEEE-Eta Kappa Nu (IEEE-HKN), the honor society of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), are given.Cockrell School of Engineerin

Teori tentang penanggulangan kejahatan, merupakan kebijakan untuk melakukan pencegahan dan penanggulangan kejahatan termasuk bidang ‘kebijakan kriminal’ (criminal policy). Kebijakan kriminal ini pun tidak terlepas dari kebijakan yang lebih luas, yaitu ‘kebijakan sosial’ (social policy) yang terdiri dari ‘kebijakan/upaya-upaya untuk kesejahteraan sosial’ (social welfare policy) dan ‘kebijakan/upaya-upaya untuk melindungi  masyarakat’ (social  defence  policy). Penanggulangan kejahatan harus dilakukan dengan pendekatan integral yaitu adanya keseimbangan antara sarana penal dan non penal. Dan dilihat dari sudut politik kriminal yang paling strategis adalah melalui sarana non penal, karena lebih bersifat preventif dan karena kebijakan penal mempunyai keterbatasan dan kelemahan. Apabila pidana akan digunakan untuk sarana penanggulangan kejahatan dan pencapaian tujuan pidana maka harus memperhatikan pendekatan humanitis yang artinya pidana yang dikenakan pada si pelanggar tidak hanya memperhatikan nilai kemanusiaan tapi juga harus dapat membangkitkan kesadaran si pelanggar akan nilai-nilai kemanusiaan dan nilai-nilai pergaulan hidup bermasyarakat. Kata kunci : Tindak Pidana, Pencurian, Palemban

Pengaruh User Competency, Kualitas Sistem Informasi, Kualitas Informasi, dan Perceived Usefulness Terhadap Kepuasan Pengguna Sistem Informasi Akuntansi

Penelitian ini menguji tingkat kepuasan pengguna sistem informasi akuntansi dengan menggunakan beberapa variabel independen seperti user competency, kualitas sistem informasi, kualitas informasi, dan perceived usefulness. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk menganalisis pengaruh user competency, kualitas sistem informasi, kualitas informasi, dan perceived usefulness terhadap kepuasan pengguna sistem informasi akuntansi. Data yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah data primer. Populasi dari penelitian ini adalah karyawan yang bekerja di perusahaan retail yang berada di wilayah Tangerang, Jakarta, dan Bogor dan memakai sistem informasi akuntansi. Jumlah responden dalam penelitian ini adalah 113. Teknik analisis data yang digunakan adalah regresi linear beganda. Hasil penelitian ini adalah (1) User comptency tidak memiliki pengaruh positif terhadap kepuasan pengguna sistem informasi akuntansi, (2) Kualitas sistem informasi tidak memiliki pengaruh positif terhadap kepuasan pengguna sistem informasi akuntansi, (3) Kualitas informasi memiliki pengaruh positif signifikan terhadap kepuasan pengguna sistem informasi akuntansi, (4) Perceived usefulness memiliki pengaruh positif signifikan terhadap kepuasan pengguna sistem informasi akuntansi

The Intership was conducted at PT Indobest Artha Kreasi in finance and accounting division as accounting officer. During the intership, the task were prepared recapitulation for folowing data : invoice and tax invoice of sales and purchase, bank account mutation, PPh Final and PPh 21, and buyer ending balance and seller pending settlement. Calculated revenue, prepared income statement and statement of financial position. Compared annual tax report with tax invoice and report of deposit bank with bank account mutation. Furthermore, most of the task executed properly, during compared annual tax report with invoice and tax invoice of sales and purchase, there some problem like there some differences between annual tax report and tax invoice of purchase. Perkembangan teknologi informasi dewasa ini sangat memungkinkan untuk pertukaran informasi dengan sangat cepat baik itu dengan internet. Pokok masalah yang mendasari penulisan karya tulis ini yaitu tentang peningkatan penjualan baju di distro chisel dengan memanfaatkan layanan internet. Dalam perancangan sistem ini diperlukan beberapa buah software yang saling mendukung diantara lain apache friend, yang mana didalamnya sudah mencakup php, database MySql, web server apache dan PHPMyAdmin, selain itu juga diperlukan satu editor program yaitu Macromedia Dreamweaver MX. El Marketing Mix Y Su Relación Con La Satisfacción Del Cliente De La Empresa A&G Industrias Peruana S.A.C.

La presente tesis titulada “El Marketing Mix y su Incidencia en la Satisfacción del Cliente de la Empresa A&G Industrias Peruana” presenta como objetivo general determinar que el marketing mix incide en la satisfacción del cliente. El estudio se realizó aproximadamente durante 6 meses. El diseño de la investigación es aplicada, no experimental de corte transversal, descriptiva, de asociación y correlacional y de tipo cuantitativo ya que se realizó una encuesta a 97 clientes de la empresa. El muestreo que se empleo fue no probabilístico – muestreo por conveniencia y el instrumento que se aplico fue un cuestionario que estaba compuesto por 37 afirmaciones con respuestas del tipo Likert. A través del instrumento utilizado, se demuestra que las dimensiones producto, precio, plaza y promoción que representan a la variable independiente Marketing Mix, inciden en la satisfacción del cliente y sus dimensiones. Por tanto, se puede demostrar que el Marketing Mix si incide en la satisfacción del cliente de la empresa A&G Industrias Peruana SAC

It is Not All Fun and Games: Breaking News Consumption on Snapchat

Snapchat is a camera and ephemeral messaging application popular among young adults. Due to its self-destructing content and playful features, Snapchat is often associated with more trivial uses. However, the platform has added functionality to support consumption of news. To understand how users perceive and interact with news content on Snapchat, we conducted semi-structured interviews with 19 users of the platform, focusing on their use of Snapchat during breaking news events, including the 2016/2017 US presidential election and inauguration. Through the lens of Network Gatekeeping, our research explains how users consume breaking news content on Snapchat. We unpack users’ ambiguous perceptions of news reliability on Snapchat, and demonstrate how this contrasts with traditional news consumption. Our research also describes how users’ mental models of how Snapchat works—specifically their theories about how the platform curates news content—shape their judgments of reliability, media bias and authenticity

Microplastics transfer from a malfunctioning municipal wastewater oxidation pond into a marine protected area in the Colombian Caribbean

Wastewater es un importante source de microplasticos (MPs) en acuático ecosystems, threatening su biodiversity y environmental services. Este estudio examina la contribución de MPs de los effluentes de municipal wastewater treatment pond system (WTS) al stream, que fluye en la Císpata marina protegida área (MPA) en el Colombiano Caribbean. Samples of influyente and effluente wastewater and sludge en el WTS se analyzaban para determinar la abundancia y los types of MPs. Adicionalmente, el wastewater flow rate se measured using a volumetric method, and its MP load calculated. Abundancia de MPs en el influyente y effluente de los WTS era 15 y 5 artículos L–1 de wastewater, y 11 y 4 elementos Kg–1 dw de sludge, respectively. Fiberos (67–75%) prevalecen en el wastewater, mientras que fragmentos (56–67%) eran predominantes en el sludge. Por lo que el removalo de MPs entre el WTS fue el 67%, el wastewater effluents está contribuyendo aproximadamente 1.3 millones de días–1 a la vuelta de la espalda al MPA. Las highlights de studia que funcionan como WTS causa sustancial MP discharges in sensitive acuático coastal ecosystems. Esta WTS requiere ongoing maintenance e improvisaciones para enseñar las long-term óptima operación y función de reducción pollutant loads y environmental risks en recipiente acuático ecosystems

ACUPUNCTURE AND BEE VENOM THERAPY IN THE CHRONIC LOW BACK PAIN: A SHORT REVIEW

Background: Many pharmacological and nonpharmacologic therapies are available for the treatment of the low back pain (LBP). Despite medications are the most frequently prescribed therapy for LBP, the use of various complementary medicine techniques is increasing. The paper summarizes the latest evidence on the treatment of musculoskeletal conditions (with special focus on chronic LBP) by using acupuncture and bee venom therapy (BVT). Methodology: The overview is based on English-language studies and articles found by searches of Medline over more than last 10 years. All the paper found that refer to LBP and at least one of the analyzed therapies have been taken into account. Results: The mechanism of action, efficiency, harms, toxicity and contraindications are highlighted for the two therapies. The literature on these topics is extensive and controversial. There are trials in favour of using the two complementary therapies for rheumatic diseases, as well trials arguing that the observed analgesic effects are related to a strong placebo response. Conclusions: The choice of using acupuncture and BVT for chronic LBP depends on various factors related to patient features and preferences, but nowadays an increased attention and support has to be noted
