    The Effect of Genetic and Infrastructure Investments in Dairy and Beef Producers' Profit in Chile

    The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of infrastructure and genetic improvement investments, promoted by a government program (Programa de Modernizacion Ganadera), in milk and meat producers' profit in Region IX. Using a system of simultaneous equations, the effect of the investment on quality, in the price, in the yield and production cost of milk were estimated. In the case of milk, we reject the nonlinear hypothesis that the elasticities of investment in genetic improvement in gross income and variable costs are equal to zero. The estimation was done using information of 276 producers of the IX Region that participated in the program during the period 1998-99 (17,3 % of the regional population), with information for the years 1998 (baseline), 2001 and 2003. The results indicate that the investment in infrastructure had a positive and statistically significant impact in the quality of milk, which translates into a higher price received by producers. Meanwhile the investment in genetic improvement had a positive and significant effect in milk yield, but also in costs. Similar results were obtained for meat production, but the effect is weaker than in milk production, especially for infrastructure investments.Livestock Production/Industries, O13, Q14, Q16,

    Hoy en día, en el que todo el mundo lleva un smartphone en el bolsillo y está de moda el consumo de diferentes y exóticos tipos de cerveza, florecen las apps que permiten al usuario obtener información acerca de todas y cada una de ellas. Estas apps ofrecen muchas posibilidades, como el poder reconocer una cerveza con solo hacerle una foto a la etiqueta, compartir con otros usuarios las puntuaciones o qué cervezas se han probado recientemente, pero ninguna permite filtrar según los deseos del usuario. Este trabajo está orientado a esta funcionalidad en concreto, basándose en una ontología que emplea lógica difusa para tratar con las imprecisas preferencias de los usuarios y un razonador semántico para extraer la información necesaria de la ontología. Con dicho objetivo, a lo largo de este trabajo se han intentando utilizar diferentes razonadores portados para ser utilizados en dispositivos móviles, poniendo de manifiesto el punto de inmadurez en el que se encuentra esta tecnología, siendo imposible su uso en este tipo de dispositivos. Como resultado de este trabajo, queda la ontología de cervezas, con una jerarquía de clases bastante trabajada y muy fiel a la realidad y con una gran cantidad de individuos (15.317), además de la app propiamente dicha, que utiliza técnicas de lógica difusa como elemento innovador y que se diferencia de manera importante de las demás apps del mercado

    Machine Learning-Based Integration of Prognostic Magnetic Resonance Imaging Biomarkers for Myometrial Invasion Stratification in Endometrial Cancer

    [EN] Background: Estimation of the depth of myometrial invasion (MI) in endometrial cancer is pivotal in the preoperatively staging. Magnetic resonance (MR) reports suffer from human subjectivity. Multiparametric MR imaging radiomics and parameters may improve the diagnostic accuracy. Purpose: To discriminate between patients with MI ¿ 50% using a machine learning-based model combining texture features and descriptors from preoperatively MR images. Study Type: Retrospective. Population: One hundred forty-three women with endometrial cancer were included. The series was split into training (n = 107, 46 with MI ¿ 50%) and test (n = 36, 16 with MI ¿ 50%) cohorts. Field Strength/Sequences: Fast spin echo T2-weighted (T2W), diffusion-weighted (DW), and T1-weighted gradient echo dynamic contrast-enhanced (DCE) sequences were obtained at 1.5 or 3 T magnets. Assessment: Tumors were manually segmented slice-by-slice. Texture metrics were calculated from T2W and ADC map images. Also, the apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC), wash-in slope, wash-out slope, initial area under the curve at 60 sec and at 90 sec, initial slope, time to peak and peak amplitude maps from DCE sequences were obtained as parameters. MR diagnostic models using single-sequence features and a combination of features and parameters from the three sequences were built to estimate MI using Adaboost methods. The pathological depth of MI was used as gold standard. Statistical Test: Area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUROC), sensitivity, specificity, accuracy, positive predictive value, negative predictive value, precision and recall were computed to assess the Adaboost models performance. Results: The diagnostic model based on the features and parameters combination showed the best performance to depict patient with MI ¿ 50% in the test cohort (accuracy = 86.1% and AUROC = 87.1%). The rest of diagnostic models showed a worse accuracy (accuracy = 41.67%¿63.89% and AUROC = 41.43%¿63.13%). Data Conclusion: The model combining the texture features from T2W and ADC map images with the semi-quantitative parameters from DW and DCE series allow the preoperative estimation of myometrial invasion. Curs acadèmic 2022-2023El presente Trabajo de Final de Grado consiste en la producción de un videoclip musical llamado “Andamos locos”. El videoclip tiene una duración de 2’17”. La canción se trata de una rumba cantada por el grupo procedentes de Burriana, Taranto, que combina también otros estilos musicales como el flamenco y el pop. La letra de la canción está escrita por los 4 componentes del grupo, 4 jóvenes de entre 20 y 27 años del pueblo castellonense, Burriana. El presente trabajo desarrolla todo el proceso de realización de la pieza audiovisual y detalla todos los aspectos técnicos que se han tenido en cuenta en la producción de la pieza, contextualiza el estilo del videoclip así como el tipo de música de Taranto y desarrolla el presupuesto y las fuentes de financiación con las que se ha contado para la realización de la pieza audiovisual.This End of Degree Project consists of the production of a music video called "Andamos locos".     Drug nanosystems are an excellent option to form efficient and safe pharmaceutical systems. Our team has developed methodology based on the use of Interleukin 2 (IL-2) which has proven very effective in antitumor therapy, but systemic administration is limited by its high toxicity. The present work discusses in vivo evaluation of the tumor using IL-2 carried in liposomes against IL-2 free, and also addresses an important and necessary step for the future use of IL-2 liposomes in biotechnology therapy for patients with carcinoma of the cervix: the early pharmaceutical stability studies.Los nanotransportadores de fármacos son una excelente opción para formar sistemas farmacéuticos eficientes y seguros. Interleucina 2 (IL-2) es eficaz en la terapia antitumoral, sin embargo su administración sistémica se ha limitado por su alta toxicidad.     El presente trabajo tiene como objetivo analizar, evaluar y proponer una solución al problema de la empresa Delta Signal a diciembre del 2018 (multinacional dedicada a la fabricación de autopartes eléctricas para el sector automotriz), mediante un planeamiento estratégico para el periodo 2019-2022. Del análisis del caso, se puede dar cuenta que la situación que afronta Delta Signal al cierre del año 2018 no es la esperada a nivel de cumplimiento de los objetivos financieros planteados y las inversiones realizadas. Asimismo, el entorno se muestra complicado por la crisis que atraviesa los Estados Unidos, el Brexit, así como la guerra comercial de Estados Unidos con China y las políticas planteadas por la administración Trump, que decanta en la reducción en la venta de vehículos. En ese sentido, para el periodo 2019-2022 se plantea una política que permita potenciar las ventas dentro del mercado americano hasta una valla de precio definido, considerando una estrategia de segmentación con enfoque en bajo costo, mejorando los productos que se ofrecen y la relación con sus clientes

    A genomic approach for the identification of population management units for the dolphinfish (Coryphaena hippurus) in the eastern Pacific

    In the Tropical Eastern Pacific dolphinfish (TEP) Corypahena hippurus is part of commercial, recreational, and artisanal fisheries and is also caught incidentally by the tuna purse-seine and longline fisheries. Defining the existence of differenced populations in exploited species for being considered independent management units is crucial for conservation plans. However, there is a great uncertainty about the species population genetic structure across the TEP. To investigate it and to identify possible management units for conservation purposes this study was carried out, based on two SNPs datasets of 3867 and 3220 SNPs for young of the year (YOY) and adult individuals, respectively, obtained through NGS protocols. Sampling covered the species’ range distribution in the Tropical Eastern Pacific and was structured into YOY and adult individuals in order to discard the effects of migrating individuals into sampled locations. Our results revealed slight but significant differences among locations occupying the latitudinal limits of the species distribution at transitional areas between tropical and subtropical waters. These areas are characterized by strong seasonal variations in sea surface temperature and limit the prevalence of populations in these extremes. Genetic differences also seem to be related to spatial separation of locations as the northernmost (Los Cabos) and southernmost (Peru) locations including a set of oceanic samples, showed the highest levels of genetic differentiation. Whereas were detected barriers to gene flow among spatially separated locations for YOY individuals probably related to site fidelity, clear limitations to gene flow between Mexico and Central America locations were observed probably related to oceanic circulation in the area. Design management strategies in countries where the dolphinfish is explored is of primary interest to preserve genetic resources. It is necessary to define the existence of genetic differences of populations for species that are highly dependent on environmental factors limiting its distributional range as is the case of the dolphinfish

    Estudio de seroprevalencia de enfermedad de Chagas-Mazza en residentes del Cinturón Hortícola Platense

    La Enfermedad de Chagas-Mazza, es silenciosa, frecuentemente ocasiona lesiones sin notables manifestaciones clínicas. Numerosas personas desconocen su condición de afectados por Tripanosoma cruzi. Cuando ellas tienen acceso a diagnósticos clínicos y seroepidemiológicos, puede ocurrir que haga ya muchos años que han sido afectados y haya daños orgánicos. En este estudio se realizaron actividades en territorio, en el cinturón frutihortícola platense en el que habitan personas provenientes de áreas endémicas de Enfermedad de Chagas-Mazza, como parte de un proyecto integral. Con consentimiento informado se realizaron extracciones y diagnósticos. Las personas seropositivas fueron luego estudiadas, seguidas y medicadas según cada caso siguiendo las indicaciones establecidas en los protocolos vigentes consensuados. Ellos no conocían su condición de afectados.
