Implication of Career Development And Demograpic Factors on Quality of Work Life

The objective of this research is to study the implication of career development and demographic factors on quality of work life. The research was done cross sectional, by conducting 429 subjects who work in public service. Data was collected from a set of questionnaires which consists of scale of quality of work life, scale of career development and bio data. The result of Pearson correlation analysis indicated positive and significant correlation between career development and quality of work life. The correlation indicated that the positive perception of career development, the higher of quality of work life. Also, the Point Biserial correlation indicated demographic factors such as; sex, age, education, length of service and marital status showed positive and significant with quality of work life. These findings contribute to an understanding of ways by top management in attempts to attain a quality of work life between the needs of the employees and the needs of the organization

Islamic Bank’s Financial Performance Indicators

Financial performance is pertinent in verifying the strength and survival of a company or business as the market player in the industry. However, there is an element which applied in the conventional bank but been prohibited to be applied and recognized by Islamic bank which is riba’ (interest) element. Conventional and Islamic banks have different practice in doing business which conventional bank would generate their main income from interest charged, but, Islamic bank is prohibited involve in riba’ (interest) practice. Unfortunately, financial performance of Islamic banks currently still be measured by conventional performance measurement which widely be measured by financial ratios. Since the recognition and approval of interest from these two types of bank is differ, hence, there is a need for different performance measurement indicators. In order to develop a unique indicator for financial performance, it should be refer to the objective of establishing the business. As for Islamic bank, supposedly the establishment of the institution is to fulfill the maslahah and shouldn’t be focused on profit-earnings as the priority.It is suggested Islamic banks should put maslahah and Maqasid al-Shari'ahas the main framework for Islamic financial performance measurement indicators. Hence, further study need to be done on reconstructing the pure framework of Islamic financial performance measurement

Pembelajaran berasaskan masalah

Kajian berkaitan Pembelajaran Berasaskan Masalah (PBL) ini dilaksanakan dengan hasrat untuk meningkatkan kemahiran lisan, khususnya penerangan berdasarkan gambar bagi murid Darjah 6. Seramai 16 orang murid Darjah 6 terlibat dalam kajian ini. Berdasarkan pemantauan guru semasa aktiviti lisan dalam kelas, murid-murid yang terlibat mengalami kesukaran membentangkan hasil perbincangan mereka. Hasil tinjauan menunjukkan bahawa murid-murid membentangkan hasil perbincangan mereka dengan menggunakan ayat yang ringkas dan kosa kata yang tidak sesuai.Objektif kajian ini adalah untuk membantu murid menerangkan gambar dengan menggunakan kosa kata yang tepat dan berstruktur. Konsep PBL telah dipilih untuk membantu murid kerana konsep PBL meneliti masalah yang mirip dengan yang berlaku dalam kehidupan nyata.Dapatan kajian menunjukkan keberkesanan PBL dalam meningkatkan kemahiran murid bertutur semasa aktiviti perbincangan dan penyampaian lisan

The Relationship between Union Organization and Union Effectiveness: The Role of Type of Union as Moderator

AbstractPrevious studies have established that the union organization forms a significant relationship with union effectiveness. Nevertheless, there is still a paucity of studies conducted, in view of the moderator's role between both the constructs. This research aims to determine the moderating effect of the type of union on their union effectiveness. Data collected from a survey on 676 union officials in Selangor and the Federal Territory (Putrajaya and Kuala Lumpur) was analyzed using structural equation modeling. The findings indicate that the union effectiveness was significantly influenced by union organization. Nonetheless, the type of union does not function as moderator

Relationship of Adult Attachment Styles and External Shame on Depression Symptoms among Married Couples: A Preliminary Study

This study investigated the potential impact of attachment styles and external shame on depression symptoms among married couples from low-income apartments in the suburbs of Kuala Lumpur. A door-to-door approach was used to recruit participants and collect data. Three research scales were used in this study: the Experience in Close Relationship-Revised Version questionnaire was used to measure individual differences in adult attachment styles, the Other as Shamer Scale was used to measure external shame, and the Personal Health Questionnaire was used to measure depression symptoms. This study reports that the most common depression symptoms reported are among individuals who experienced depression symptoms for less than one month. Results showed that dualinsecure couples (wives’ anxiety attachment and husbands’ avoidance attachment, wives’ avoidance attachment and husbands’ avoidance attachment) were significantly correlated with depression in a sample of the wives. The findings also revealed that a specific type of dual-insecure couples (wives’ anxiety attachment and husbands’ avoidance attachment) was a predictor of depression symptoms. These results provide evidence for a role of specific dual-insecure couples and external shame on depression symptoms. (Abstract by authors

THE ROLE OF MICROFINANCE IN THE ECONOMIC PERFORMANCE OF PETTY TRADERS IN PENANG: THE CASE OF PROGRAMS TITIAN SAKSAMA RAKYAT BY PENANG DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION

This paper aims to examine the impact of the Program Titian Saksama Rakyat (PTSR) to the petty traders. PTSR is a microfinance program which focuses on the growth and the development of the micro entrepreneurs in Penang, Malaysia. It was initiated by the Penang Development Corporation (PDC) in co-operation with the Penang State Government in November 2008. Based on the sample of 150 petty traders involved in various business activities, the results showed that the amount of the loan received has a significant effect on their income. In addition, this study revealed that the amount of the loan received and the actual amount of the loan application (whether it is fully approved or not) were significantly affect the success of these traders. The results of the analysis also indicated that, the traders enjoyed significant benefits from the PTSR as this program was able to increase their income, expand their business, lift them out of poverty, improve their ability to increase the amount of deposits and their property, improve the quality of their health and improve their ability to own a house and land. Because of these benefits, these traders are interested and plan to apply for another loan from the PTSR program. This study, therefore, suggests that the PTSR program should be continued as it played significant roles in improving the socio-economic performance of the petty traders

The Prevalence of Acceptable Quality of Women Herbal Products Sold Online in Malaysia

The aim of this study is to determine the prevalence of quality herbal products sold online in Malaysia. The quality of herbal products focuses on two specific issues which are the legality of the labelling on herbal products and microbial contamination in herbal products.  Using keywords such as â€˜herbal products’, ‘jamu’, and ‘women herbal products’, a total of 111 herbal products were selected to observe the labelling of herbal products from Malaysian online stores (Lazada, Shopee and iHerbs). 90.1% of the selected products are registered and fulfilled the labelling guidelines as required by National Pharmaceutical Registration Authority (NPRA). Among the 10 samples from the legally registered products, all of the products were contaminated with gram-negative bacteria with accepted number of colony forming unit (CFU <107), but none was contaminated with E. coli, Salmonella and S. aureus. Therefore, it can be concluded that the NPRA urgently needs to devise a process of post-marketing surveillance of the quality of herbal products sold through online platforms in Malaysia

Twelve anchor points detection by direct point calculation

Facial features can be categorized it into three approaches; Region Approaches, Anchor Point (landmark) Approaches and Contour Approaches. Generally, anchor points approach provide more accurate and consistent representation. For this reason, anchor points approach has been chose to utilize. Although, as the experiment data sets have become larger, algorithms have become more sophisticated even if the reported recognition rates are not as high as in some earlier works. This will cause a higher complexity and computer burden. Indirectly, it also will affect the time for real time face recognition systems. Here, it is proposed the approach of calculating the points directly from the text file to detect twelve anchor points ( nose tip, mouth centre, right eye centre, left eye centre, upper nose and chin). In order to get the anchor points, points for the nose tip have to be detected first. Then the upper nose and face point is localization. Lastly, the outer and inner eyes corner is localized. An experiment has been carried out with 420 models taken from GavabDB in two positions with frontal view and variation of expressions and positions. Our results are compared with three researchers that is similar to and show that better result is obtained with a median error of the eight points is around 5.53mm

Relationship between personality traits, attachment styles and life satisfaction among adolescents

Adolescence is an important developmental stage for every individual as it is a transition period from childhood to adulthood. Hence, many variables contribute to the feelings of life satisfaction among adolescents. It is therefore prudent to investigate what adolescents deem as important in influencing their life satisfaction. The objective of this study was to examine the relationship between personality traits, attachment styles with adolescents’ life satisfaction. A total of 315 respondents aged between 18 to 21 years old participated in this study. Three standardized instruments were used and they are: the NEO Five Factor Inventory (NEO-FFI) to measure personality, the Attachment Style Questionnaire (ASQ) and the Satisfaction with Life Scale (SWLS). Results showed that there were significant relationships between personality traits of extraversion, openness and conscientiousness with life satisfaction. The findings also indicated significant correlations between attachment styles of confidence and relationship with life satisfaction. In addition, results showed that there were significant relationships between most of the personality traits with attachment styles. In conclusion, adolescents who were satisfied with their lives were those who have personality traits of extraversion, openness and conscientiousness and secure attachment style. These findings give important insights in understanding the well-being of adolescents
