    An application of barnacles mating optimizer for solving economic dispatch problems

    This paper presents an application of a new nature-based optimization algorithm namely Barnacles Mating optimizer (BMO) to solve the well-known economic dispatch (ED) problem in power system operation. ED is one of the classical optimization problems which draws a lot of attention of power engineers as well as researchers globally in order to obtain the minimum cost of power generation by fulfilling all the constraints and demand. The practical constraints will be considered in this paper such as prohibited operating zones, ramp rate limits and generation operating limits. BMO on the other hand is the new algorithm based on behavior of barnacles seeking for mating. BMO will be adopted in finding the optimal combination of power generation so that the minimum cost can be achieved without violating any constraints. 6-units and 15-units case systems will be utilized to show the effectiveness of BMO compared with other recent algorithms

    Kalman Filter Estimation of Impedance Parameters for Medium Transmission Line

    Accurate knowledge of impedance parameters in transmission line helps to improve the system efficiency and performance. Nowadays, the estimation of impedance parameters in transmission line has become possible with the availability of computational method. This paper aims to develop Kalman filter model by using Matlab simulink to estimate accurate values of resistance (R), reactance (X), and susceptance (B) in medium transmission line. The accuracy of the parameters can be improved by reducing the unknown errors in the system. To demonstrate the effectiveness of the Kalman filter method, a case study of simulated medium transmission line is presented and comparison between Kalman Filter (KF) and Linear Least Square (LLS) method is also considered to evaluate their performances

    Improved barnacles mating optimizer for loss minimization problem in optimal reactive power dispatch

    The solution of Optimal Reactive Power Dispatch (ORPD) can be treated as one of the sub-Optimal Power Flow (OPF) problems where the loss minimization is one of the objective functions to be solved. In this paper, an improvement of recent algorithm namely Improved Barnacles Mating optimizer (IBMO) is proposed to determine the best combination of control variables of power system's components such as generator bus voltages, injected MVAR devices and transformer ratios so that the total transmission loss can be minimized. To assess the performance of IBMO in loss minimization of ORPD, IEEE 57-bus system will be used. The performance of IBMO will be compared with original BMO and Moth-Flame optimizer (MFO) to show the effectiveness of proposed improvement in solving the ORPD problem

    Optimal Overcurrent Relays Coordination using an Improved Grey Wolf Optimizer

    Recently, nature inspired algorithms (NIA) have been implemented to various fields of optimization problems. In this paper, the implementation of NIA is reported to solve the overcurrent relay coordination problem. The purpose is to find the optimal value of the Time Multiplier Setting (TMS) and Plug Setting (PS) in order to minimize the primary relays’ operating time at the near end fault. The optimization is performed using the Improved Grey Wolf Optimization (IGWO) algorithm. Some modifications to the original GWO have been made to improve the candidate’s exploration ability. Comprehensive simulation studies have been performed to demonstrate the reliability and efficiency of the proposed modification technique compared to the conventional GWO and some well-known algorithms. The generated results have confirmed the proposed IGWO is able to optimize the objective function of the overcurrent relay coordination problem

    The following study examines relationship of service quality, customer satisfaction, customer loyalty and consumers’ intentions to switch among finance and insurances consumers in Klang Valley area. Although many researchers have studied of service quality, customer satisfaction, customer loyalty and intention to switch, limited studies explore customer satisfaction as mediating role in the model. The present study proposes SERVQUAL model as indicator to determine the customer satisfaction among finance and insurances consumer. Stratified random sampling technique will be employed in the present study. Data collected also will be analyzed using the Smart PLS (Partial Least Square) to answer the hypothesis. It is believed that the mediating role of customer satisfaction is a promising area to explore and the potential to provide significant benefit to the finance and insurance institution

Although the films related to him are mostly black and white, they are still the favourite characters of today's youth. To this day, the jokes and the pieces of advice contained in his work are still relevant in the current society. Due to his great contribution to the film industry and music literature, he is regarded as a famous icon of Malaysia entertainment. Acknowledging his contributions, many research works have been conducted and reported in academic journals but most of these works concentrated on the literary perspective of his artefacts. On the contrary, this paper provides additional knowledge on interactive and dynamic visualization techniques of the P.Ramlee unstructured data.     Differential equation fault location algorithm with harmonic effects in power system

    About 80% of faults in the power system distribution are earth faults. Studies to find effective methods to identify and locate faults in distribution networks are still relevant, in addition to the presence of harmonic signals that distort waves and create deviations in the power system that can cause many problems to the protection relay. This study focuses on a single line-to-ground (SLG) fault location algorithm in a power system distribution network based on fundamental frequency measured using the differential equation method. The developed algorithm considers the presence of harmonics components in the simulation network. In this study, several filters were tested to obtain the lowest fault location error to reduce the effect of harmonic components on the developed fault location algorithm. The network model is simulated using the alternate transients program (ATP)Draw simulation program. Several fault scenarios have been implemented during the simulation, such as fault resistance, fault distance, and fault inception angle. The final results show that the proposed algorithm can estimate the fault distance successfully with an acceptable fault location error. Based on the simulation results, the differential equation continuous wavelet technique (CWT) filter-based algorithm produced an accurate fault location result with a mean average error (MAE) of less than 5%

    Optimal allocation and sizing of multi DG units including different load model using evolutionary programming

    This paper presents the optimal allocation and sizing of multi distributed generation (DG) units including different load models using evolutionary programming (EP) in solving power system optimization problem. This paper also studies on the effect of multi DG placement in different load model. To optimize the power distribution system, multi DG units were used to reduce losses power distribution system. By using EP, the optimal allocation and sizing of multi-DG was determined in order to obtain maximum benefits from its installation. The propose technique was tested into IEEE 69-bus distribution system. The result shows the placement of DG can reduce power loss 89% to 98%. The placement of multi-DG unit has better performance compare to single DG

    Heuristic Based Placement Technique for Distributed Generation

    In this paper, a heuristic DG optimization technique for radial distribution feeders is proposed. Significant search space reductions obtained through a small number of DG tests is offered. A sufficient sensitivity test analysis applicable for DG applications is proposed. Sample test system is examined using the proposed technique and the results are compared with those obtained via other method. The suggested technique succeeds in solving different test cases. A comparative study validates the practical concerns of the proposed method
