    Types of Skin Grafts

    Get PDF
Skin grafting is a useful technique that has been used for a very long time for achieving closure of wounds when it cannot occure in a natural conventional manner. There are different types of grafts according to their origin, thickness and form. There are 3 main types of graftsthat are used to cover wounds: Split-thickness skin grafts, full-thickness skin grafts and composite grafts. Each of them has specific indication and has a unique technique for harvesting. If the graft is not taken care of properly its survival can be compromised and necrosis of the graft can occur. Even though complications may present, skin grafting is still considered a practical approach to repair many type of wounds

The hybrid materials offer new lines of investigation of agreement to the properties that they present, as for the catalysis or as metal supports of transition for example. This study affects principally in the knowledge and suitable alterations of the surface of the MCM-41 modified with organosilanos and ionic liquid, so the high specific area (bigger than 1200 m²/g) of the support offers major sites of anchorage and availability of the active site. The synthesized material modified with a copper complex, was evaluated in an organic "click" reaction of the 1,3-dipolar cicloadición of azida and alquine for the obtaining of one 1,2,3-triazol that is catalyzed by Copper (I) reduced in situ

AIM: To compare the effectiveness of intravitreal bevacizumab and subthreshold macular photocoagulation (SMP), for the treatment of non-center involved diabetic macular edema (non-CI DME). METHODS: Prospective, randomized, controlled clinical study included patients with type 2 diabetes, non-CI DME and best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) of 0.30 logMAR or better. Each eye was randomized into three groups: group 1, monthly intravitreal bevacizumab; group 2, single SMP; group 3, single SMP and monthly bevacizumab. Main outcome measures were BCVA, and macular thickness measured with optical coherence tomography as macular central subfield thickness (CST), macular area of greater thickness (MAGT) and total macular volume (TMV). Results were analyzed after 3mo. RESULTS: A total of 32 eyes were included. Group 3 improved in BCVA (0.19±0.16 to 0.12±0.14 logMAR; P=0.041) and in TMV (7.90±0.57 to 7.65±0.73 mm3; P=0.025). Group 1 improved in MAGT (325±26.26 to 298.20±44.85 μm; P=0.022) and TMV (7.79±0.57 to 7.50±0.56 mm3, P=0.047). Group 2 didn’t show significant improvement of any variable. CONCLUSION: The loading phase of bevacizumab as monotherapy or combined with SMP is superior to SMP as monotherapy in providing short-term visual and anatomical improvement in non-CI DME

Maternal dietary patterns and acute leukemia in infants: results from a case control study in Mexico

    Get PDF
BackgroundChildhood cancer is the leading cause of disease-related mortality among children aged 5–14 years in Mexico, with acute leukemia being the most common cancer among infants. Examining the overall dietary patterns allows for a comprehensive assessment of food and nutrient consumption, providing a more predictive measure of disease risk than individual foods or nutrients. This study aims to evaluate the association between maternal dietary patterns during pregnancy and the risk of acute leukemia in Mexican infants.MethodsA hospital-based case–control study was conducted, comparing 109 confirmed acute leukemia cases with 152 age-matched controls. All participants (≤24 months) were identified at hospitals in Mexico City between 2010 and 2019. Data on a posteriori dietary patterns and other relevant variables were collected through structured interviews and dietary questionnaires. Multivariate logistic regression was employed to estimate the association between maternal dietary patterns during pregnancy and the risk of acute leukemia in infants.ResultsThe “Balanced & Vegetable-Rich” pattern, characterized by a balanced consumption of various food groups and higher vegetable intake, exhibited a negative association with acute leukemia when compared to the “High Dairy & Cereals” Pattern (adjusted odds ratio [OR] = 0.51; 95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.29, 0.90). We observed that mothers who gave birth to girls and adhered to a healthy dietary pattern during pregnancy exhibited significantly lower odds of their children developing AL compared to those who gave birth to boys [OR = 0.32 (95% CI 0.11, 0.97)]. Our results underscore the significance of maternal nutrition as a modifiable factor in disease prevention and the importance of prenatal health education
