Employing Probabilistic Dissimilarity for Feature Discovery in a Game of Chess
Abstract. We present the feature discovery technique based on the use of the probabilistic dissimilarity, i.e., a measure of dissimilarity between two probability distributions. Th
Przygotowanie merytoryczne pacjentów kierowanych na zabieg koronarografii
Wstęp: Koronarografia jest kluczowym badaniem w diagnostyce choroby niedokrwiennej
serca. Poprawa komfortu badania i skrócenie czasu hospitalizacji sprzyja jej większej
dostępności oraz obniża koszty. Celem pracy było zbadanie przygotowania merytorycznego
pacjentów do zabiegu koronarografii.
Materiał i metody: Badaniem objęto 114 kolejnych pacjentów (30 kobiet i
Ankietę przeprowadzono anonimowo, przed zabiegiem - w dniu przyjęcia do szpitala
41% vs. 14%, p < 0,008) i częściej wiedzieli, której struktury serca dotyczy koronarografia
(67% vs. 14%, p < 0,0001) i jakie powikłania powoduje zabieg (33% vs. 7%, p <
z wykształceniem średnim (78% vs. 33%, p < 0,0002) i badanymi z wykształceniem
wyższym (78% vs. 40%, p < 0,001). O powikłaniach nie wiedziało 100% z nich, 64%
badanych z wykształceniem średnim i 53% osób z wykształceniem wyższym (p < 0,0001),
72% vs. 37% (p < 0,001) vs. 27% (p < 0,0002).
Wnioski: Subiektywnie i obiektywnie poziom wiedzy merytorycznej pacjentów
na temat koronarografii jest niski. Zależy on od poziomu wykształcenia i miejsca
zamieszkania chorego.

Some harvesting system transforming energy wastes of compressed air to electricity
Energy harvesting devices are self-powered systems which are associated with input ambient energy and convert such energy to electrical one. In this study, we focus on input ambient energy deriving from compressed air. Using arbitrary pneumatic machine, the compressed air after work - with its typical parameters as overpressure 6 bar or higher and variable volume flow - is exhausted to atmosphere. This generates energy losses. We have constructed some device which transforms the loss of compressed air energy to electricity. It illustrates the principle of action very well and does not perturb operation of pneumatic machines being source of energy losses
Materiał i metody: Badaniem objęto 52 pacjentów z ostrym zespołem wieńcowym,
zabiegu PTCA. Pomiarów dokonywały ręcznie dwie niezależne osoby; w przypadku niezgodności
wyliczano średnią i taki wynik uznawano za ostateczny. W obu badaniach EKG obliczano
Wyniki: Grupa A liczyła 27 pacjentów (19 mężczyzn i 8 kobiet), zaś grupa
B - 25 osób (17 mężczyzn i 8 kobiet). W grupie A średnia wartość dyspersji QTc
przed zabiegiem wyniosła 123,92 ± 33,78 ms, po zabiegu 85,73 ± 56,06 ms, w grupie
B odpowiednio: 78,24 ± 60 ms oraz 119,53 ± 44,33. Ryzyko zwiększenia dyspersji
QTc po angioplastyce wzrastało 5-krotnie, jeżeli doszło do niepełnej rewaskularyzacji
(OR = 4,89; p < 0,03).
(Folia Cardiol. 2004; 11: 513–519
Cross-hybridization between HPV genotypes in the Linear Array Genotyping Test confirmed by Next-Generation Sequencing
Background: Linear Array Genotyping Test (LA) is one of the gold standards used for Human Papillomavirus (HPV) genotyping, however, since its launching in 2006, new HPV genotypes are still being characterized with the use of high specificity techniques such as Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS). Derived from a previous study of the IMSS Research Network on HPV, which suggested that there might be cross-reaction of some HPV genotypes in the LA test, the aim of this study was to elucidate this point.
Methods: Double stranded L1 fragments (gBlocks) from different HPVs were used to perform LA test, additionally, 14 HPV83+ and 26 HPV84+ cervical samples determined with LA, were individually genotyped by NGS.
Results: From the LA HPV83+ samples, 64.3% were truly HPV83+, while 42.9% were found to be HPV102+. On the other hand, 69.2% of the LA HPV84+ samples were HPV84+, while 3.8, 11.5 and 30.8% of the samples were indeed HPV 86, 87 and 114 positive, respectively. Additionally, novel nucleotide changes in L1 gene from HPV genotypes 83, 84, 87, 102 and 114 were determined in Mexican cervical samples, some of them lead to changes in the protein sequence.
Conclusions: We demonstrated that there is cross-hybridization between alpha3-HPV genotypes 86, 87 and 114 with HPV84 probe in LA strips and between HPV102 with HPV83 probe; this may be causing over or under estimation in the prevalence of these genotypes. In the upcoming years, a switch to more specific and sensitive genotyping methods that detect a broader spectrum of HPV genotypes needs to be implemented
Radon intercomparison tests – Katowice, 2016
At the beginning of the year 2016, the representatives of the Polish Radon Centre decided to organize
profi ciency tests (PTs) for measurements of radon gas and radon decay products in the air, involving radon
monitors and laboratory passive techniques. The Silesian Centre for Environmental Radioactivity of the Central
Mining Institute (GIG), Katowice, became responsible for the organization of the PT exercises. The main reason
to choose that location was the radon chamber in GIG with a volume of 17 m3, the biggest one in Poland. Accordingly,
13 participants from Poland plus one participant from Germany expressed their interest. The participants
were invited to inform the organizers about what types of monitors and methods they would like to check during
the tests. On this basis, the GIG team prepared the proposal for the schedule of exercises, such as the required
level(s) of radon concentrations, the number and periods of tests, proposed potential alpha energy concentration
(PAEC) levels and also the overall period of PT. The PT activity was performed between 6th and 17th June
2016. After assessment of the results, the agreement between radon monitors and other measurement methods
was confi rmed. In the case of PAEC monitors and methods of measurements, the results of PT exercises were
consistent and confi rmed the accuracy of the calibration procedures used by the participants. The results of the
PAEC PTs will be published elsewhere; in this paper, only the results of radon intercomparison are described
Search for dark matter produced in association with bottom or top quarks in √s = 13 TeV pp collisions with the ATLAS detector
A search for weakly interacting massive particle dark matter produced in association with bottom or top quarks is presented. Final states containing third-generation quarks and miss- ing transverse momentum are considered. The analysis uses 36.1 fb−1 of proton–proton collision data recorded by the ATLAS experiment at √s = 13 TeV in 2015 and 2016. No significant excess of events above the estimated backgrounds is observed. The results are in- terpreted in the framework of simplified models of spin-0 dark-matter mediators. For colour- neutral spin-0 mediators produced in association with top quarks and decaying into a pair of dark-matter particles, mediator masses below 50 GeV are excluded assuming a dark-matter candidate mass of 1 GeV and unitary couplings. For scalar and pseudoscalar mediators produced in association with bottom quarks, the search sets limits on the production cross- section of 300 times the predicted rate for mediators with masses between 10 and 50 GeV and assuming a dark-matter mass of 1 GeV and unitary coupling. Constraints on colour- charged scalar simplified models are also presented. Assuming a dark-matter particle mass of 35 GeV, mediator particles with mass below 1.1 TeV are excluded for couplings yielding a dark-matter relic density consistent with measurements
