Analysis and Econometric Modelling of the Monetary Sector in the Slovak Republic

Despite the fact that the macro-economic modelling of the econometric type has almost a 30-years tradition in the Slovak Republic, the econometric modelling of the more detailed money structure has no history at all. The significance of the problem with time series is held by the fact that no data on the state money targeting, managing and controlling before 1993 were available in such a way that would be compatible with 1993 data and thus would allow to extend the particular time series by several time periods before 1993. The first part of the paper contains a short analysis of selected monetary indicators during the last five years. The second part deals with the monetary submodel which consists of five regression equations (money M2, interest rates from credits and deposits, credits to households and enterprises, foreign direct investment) and nine identities. This submodel is planned to create a monetary block in the quarterly econometric model of the Slovak economy.Money, Interest Rates, Monetary Policy, Regression Equations, Econometric Model

Although the Internet has provided people with nearly unlimited access to seemingly endless topics, the accuracy of this information is not guaranteed. A primary advantage of the Internet – that anyone can publish almost anything and that information spreads virally – is also a double-edged sword. Complex scientific topics are often simplified and diluted to a fault for non-scientists, or lay people, to understand. Research from subjects that directly relate to people’s everyday lives, like psychology, appear to experience the greatest misinterpretation on the Internet. In fact, an entire genre, coined pop psychology, describes the antiquated, unproven, oversimplified, misunderstood, and misinterpreted psychological concepts promoted by non-scientists that are prevalent throughout the World Wide Web (Lilienfeld, Lynn, & Beyerstein, 2010). One very prominent psychology myth that has persisted for decades concerns brain lateralization. Despite the studies that have illuminated the details of brain lateralization and articles devoted to debunking this myth, numerous social media websites continue to offer quizzes and articles that reinforce the belief that some individuals are right-brained, which means they are the creative type, and some are left-brained, which means they are more mathematical and logical

Not All Evidence is the Same: Habeas Corpus and Actual Innocence. A Practically Unusable Exception for Fundamental Miscarriages of Justice?

For many, being convicted of a crime they did not commit would be a living and breathing nightmare. However, for some American prisoners, that nightmare is an unfortunate reality. Although reform focused on how an innocent individual came to be wrongfully convicted—via prosecutorial inaccuracies, forensic and eyewitness errors, jailhouse informants, forced confessions and inadequate representation—and how to prevent it in the future has seen success in recent years, the American legal system continues to fail those currently incarcerated trying to prove their innocence. When seeking habeas relief, the utmost hurdle in proving actual innocence is what type of “new” evidence should be used in order for the actual innocence gateway exception to apply. Defining what constitutes “new” evidence in this context has caused a significant split, causing circuits to apply either a newly presented or newly discovered standard. However, implementing yet another barrier to actual innocence claims under the newly discovered view directly contradicts the intended purpose of the innocence gateway and thus, this Article explores and promotes unilateral application of the newly presented standard

Analysis and Econometric Modelling of the Fiscal Sector in the Slovak Republic

For the modern history of the SR, the state budget data from the period of CSFR are not relevant according to the existence of two republic budgets with strong mutual relations and two-way flows. In 1996, a new budget composition based on foreign experiences was introduced. The first two parts of the study contain analyses of the revenue and expenditure side during the period 1993-1997. The third part presents an econometric submodel of the fiscal sector of the SR which consists of 15 equations; 6 of them dealing with the tax revenue items of the state budget (taxes on income of natural persons, taxes on income of legal entities, value added tax, excise taxes, customs duty, and import surcharge) are of the stochastic type. This submodel will be incorporated into the quarterly econometric model of the Slovak economy.State Budget, Revenue and Expenditure, Regression Equation, Econometric Model

Society in transition: cultural change in the Early Bronze Age cemetery at Nižná Myšl'a in the light of absolute chronology

The article presents the results of research on the absolute chronology of the Nižná Myšľa cemetery. Due to its scale and location in a key region of the Carpathian Basin, it should be considered one of the most important Early Bronze Age sites in Central Europe. Many years of archaeological research have so far failed to provide adequate data on absolute chronology. This text presents the results of statistical and spatial analyses on a series of newly acquired 14C dates. They allowed us to present a model of the spatial and chronological development of the funerary space and to capture the stage of significant cultural change associated with the adoption of a new raw material—bronze.Radiocarbo
