Los registros más australes de Dromiciops gliroides: extendiendo su distribución más allá del bosque lluvioso valdiviano
The geographic range of a species is often limited by sampling approaches, underestimating the actual distribution. This is likely the case of Dromiciops gliroides (Microbiotheria), an endemic marsupial from southern South America. We used camera-traps to record D. gliroides for the first time in Chaitén and Futaleufú (southern Chile), expanding its known distribution 100 km to the south. Climate and forest composition in this area differs from the typical Valdivian rainforest. Activity assessments show a narrow activity patterns compared to northern populations.El rango geográfico de una especie usualmente está limitado por el muestreo, subestimando su distribución. Bi-defects of Nematic Surfactant Bilayers
We consider the effects of the coupling between the orientational order of
the two monolayers in flat nematic bilayers. We show that the presence of a
topological defect on one bilayer generates a nontrivial orientational texture
on both monolayers. Therefore, one cannot consider isolated defects on one
monolayer, but rather associated pairs of defects on either monolayer, which we
call bi-defects. Bi-defects generally produce walls, such that the textures of
the two monolayers are identical outside the walls, and different in their
interior. We suggest some experimental conditions in which these structures

Presupernova collapse models with improved weak-interaction rates
Improved values for stellar weak interaction rates have been recently
calculated based upon a large shell model diagonalization. Using these new
rates (for both beta decay and electron capture), we have examined the
presupernova evolution of massive stars in the range 15-40 Msun. Comparing our
new models with a standard set of presupernova models by Woosley and Weaver, we
find significantly larger values for the electron-to-baryon ratio Ye at the
onset of collapse and iron core masses reduced by approximately 0.1 Msun. The
inclusion of beta-decay accounts for roughly half of the revisions, while the
other half is a consequence of the improved nuclear physics. These changes will
have important consequences for nucleosynthesis and the supernova explosion

Magnetic-field-induced spin excitations and renormalized spin gap of the underdoped superconductor LaSrCuO
High-resolution neutron inelastic scattering experiments in applied magnetic
fields have been performed on LaSrCuO (LSCO). In zero
field, the temperature dependence of the low-energy peak intensity at the
incommensurate momentum-transfer $\mathbf{Q}^{\
}_{\mathrm{IC}}=(0.5,0.5\pm\delta,0),(0.5\pm\delta,0.5,0)T^{\}_{c}$ which broadens and shifts to lower
temperature upon the application of a magnetic field along the c-axis. A
field-induced enhancement of the spectral weight is observed, but only at
finite energy transfers and in an intermediate temperature range. These
observations establish the opening of a strongly downward renormalized spin gap
in the underdoped regime of LSCO. This behavior contrasts with the observed

Rough Surface Effect on Meissner Diamagnetism in Normal-layer of N-S Proximity-Contact System
Rough surface effect on the Meissner diamagnetic current in the normal layer
of proximity contact N-S bi-layer is investigated in the clean limit. The
diamagnetic current and the screening length are calculated by use of
quasi-classical Green's function. We show that the surface roughness has a
sizable effect, even when a normal layer width is large compared with the
coherence length . The effect is as large as that
of the impurity scattering and also as that of the finite reflection at the N-S

Force transmission in a packing of pentagonal particles
We perform a detailed analysis of the contact force network in a dense
confined packing of pentagonal particles simulated by means of the contact
dynamics method. The effect of particle shape is evidenced by comparing the
data from pentagon packing and from a packing with identical characteristics
except for the circular shape of the particles. A counterintuitive finding of
this work is that, under steady shearing, the pentagon packing develops a lower
structural anisotropy than the disk packing. We show that this weakness is
compensated by a higher force anisotropy, leading to enhanced shear strength of
the pentagon packing. We revisit "strong" and "weak" force networks in the
pentagon packing, but our simulation data provide also evidence for a large
class of "very weak" forces carried mainly by vertex-to-edge contacts. The
strong force chains are mostly composed of edge-to-edge contacts with a marked
zig-zag aspect and a decreasing exponential probability distribution as in a
disk packing
Memory of the Unjamming Transition during Cyclic Tiltings of a Granular Pile
Discrete numerical simulations are performed to study the evolution of the
micro-structure and the response of a granular packing during successive
loading-unloading cycles, consisting of quasi-static rotations in the gravity
field between opposite inclination angles. We show that internal variables,
e.g., stress and fabric of the pile, exhibit hysteresis during these cycles due
to the exploration of different metastable configurations. Interestingly, the
hysteretic behaviour of the pile strongly depends on the maximal inclination of
the cycles, giving evidence of the irreversible modifications of the pile state
occurring close to the unjamming transition. More specifically, we show that
for cycles with maximal inclination larger than the repose angle, the weak
contact network carries the memory of the unjamming transition. These results
demonstrate the relevance of a two-phases description -strong and weak contact
networks- for a granular system, as soon as it has approached the unjamming

YBCO-buffered NdBCO film with higher thermal stability in seeding REBCO Growth
In this work, we report a strengthened superheating effect caused by a
buffering YBa2Cu3Oy (Y123 or YBCO) layer in the Nd1+xBa2-xCu3O7-y (Nd123 or
NdBCO) thin film with MgO substrate (i.e., NdBCO/YBCO/MgO thin film). In the
cold-seeding melt-textured (MT) growth, the NdBCO/YBCO/MgO film presented an
even higher superheating level, about 20 {\deg}C higher than that of
non-buffered NdBCO film (i.e., NdBCO/MgO film). Using this NdBCO/YBCO/MgO film
as seeds and undergoing a maximum processing temperature (Tmax) up to 1120
{\deg}C, we succeeded in growing various RE1+xBa2-xCu3O7-y (REBCO, RE=rare
elements) bulk superconductors, including Gd1+xBa2-xCu3O7-y (GdBCO),
Sm1+xBa2-xCu3O7-y (SmBCO) and NdBCO that have high peritectic temperatures
(Tp). The pole figure (X-Ray \phi-scan) measurement reveals that the
NdBCO/YBCO/MgO film has better in-plane alignment than the NdBCO/MgO film,
indicating that the induced intermediate layer improves the crystallinity of
the NdBCO film, which could be the main origin of the enhanced thermal
stability. In short, possessing higher thermal stability and enduring a higher
Tmax in the MT process, the NdBCO/YBCO/MgO film is beneficial to the growth of
bulk superconductors in two aspects: (1) broad application for high-Tp REBCO
materials; (2) effective suppression against heterogeneous nucleation, which is
of great assistance in growing large and high-performance REBCO crystals.Comment: 9 pages, 4 figure

Separatrix Reconnections in Chaotic Regimes
In this paper we extend the concept of separatrix reconnection into chaotic
regimes. We show that even under chaotic conditions one can still understand
abrupt jumps of diffusive-like processes in the relevant phase-space in terms
of relatively smooth realignments of stable and unstable manifolds of unstable
